  1. I was one of their agents, then I decided I needed to reclaim my soul! I was particularly close to Richie and Guy, since they lived locally and are great guys. I still keep in touch with Richie from time to time. Sounds like the show was a great time. Rolling Stone.com has a little review on their site.

    reclaim your soul?

  2. I don't mind not prosecuting Bush officials.

So if someone murders your mother today and evidence doesn't come out until eight years later, you wanna let the guy pass? This whole "moving on" thing is the most ridiculous logic I've ever herd. We would never do it any other legal situation.

  3. Correspondent's Dinner

    I love this guy.

Yeah i love the way he is escalating the war in Afghanistan and is continuing to bomb Pakistan. Oh and I just love the way single payer is not an option for restructuring are health care system. And wasn't it cute the way he is not doing anything about the torture memos or prosecuting Bush officials. Oh and the bailouts were wonderful, I love throwing money at companies that have acted irresponsible.

THE HONEYMOON IS OVER WAKE THE F**K UP.

  4. LAMMY HOW GOOD WAS THE SHOW? That setlist is almost exactly what I was hoping for In Chicago.

As for buying albums, American Beauty, Working Man's Dead,Live Dead, Anthem of The Sun, Aoxoxoma(or however its spelled)

In my opinion you want to stick with the live stuff, grab dicks picks 12.

  5. 2008, the Fireman record was pretty good.

2005, Chaos and Creation in the Backyard was good (it's a grower, though)

then you can kinda travel backwards but really McCartney is not like some Satan incarnate because he works a different tack than the rest of the Beatles. Also I think the Beatles thing is a crap-ton of luggage on him, if he weren't a Beatle everyone would have a lot of manlove for the guy.

Meh, beatle or no beatle its just not that interesting, I like Ram and Band On The Run but not much else. I guess for a lot of people they will judge it by his old output, but to me thats silly. I know how much I've changed in my short life, he is not the guy who wrote those songs anymore(the beatles tunes that is). To expect that would be laughable.

As I was saying to a friend, I would listen to Love and Theft, Time Out of Mind and even together through life regardless of who released them. Modern Times on the other hand I found to be awful, not because this guy released blonde on blonde but because it was bad.

Its hard but I think a record needs be to judged for what it is, not who put it out. I can't think of how many mediocre albums get a ton of praise because the author was Bruce Springsteen or Neil Young for example. Its good for conversation to compare and contrast but that shouldn't deem the quality of the music.

  6. That depends on who you ask. Some would say 1972, some would say never, some would say 2008. (yawn smiley)

I mean it was a semi rhetorical question.

I think dylans later output will be remembered when people talk about his career, can't say the same for Driving Rain.

  7. Honestly it doesn't matter. I think we need a Dylan and a Beatle to make an album before they both croak.

Wasn't the traveling wilburys good enough. I'm willing to bet you that anything that they won't produce anything half as good as "THE WILBURY TWIST" :pirate

Have you herd the recording george and bob did in the early seventies, some good stuff.

  8. Dylan and Macca to collaborate? From the Guardian today:

"Bob Dylan has celebrated his latest album going to No 1 on both sides of the Atlantic by hinting that his next project could be a collaboration with Paul McCartney.

Dylan's 33rd studio album, Together Through Life, is reported to have sold 125,000 copies in its first week in America. But instead of dwelling on his chart victory, the iconic singer-songwriter has been busy telling Rolling Stone magazine that he would definitely consider working with McCartney.

"That would be exciting, to do something with Paul," Dylan said. "But, you know, your paths have to cross for something like that to make sense." McCartney's spokesman responded by saying: "I should think he would be very interested in hearing about it. As you can imagine, it would be a pretty major thing if it went ahead."

The success of Together Through Life follows Dylan's 2006 album, Modern Times, which also went to No 1 in the US. Of Dylan's extensive back catalogue, only five albums have made it to the top of the Billboard chart. Dylan fairs slightly better this side of the pond with seven, including The Freewheelin' Bob Dylan and Bringing It All Back Home, although his last UK No 1, New Morning, was in 1970.

His current chart success includes No 1 positions in Austria, Denmark, Holland, Norway, Switzerland, Sweden, Germany, New Zealand, Austria and Ireland.

It is a commercial renaissance for Dylan who, with the exception of Modern Times, hasn't scored a No 1 album in the US since 1976's Desire. Together Through Life is out on Columbia."

It would certainly be interesting, that's for sure.

But would it? Or would it be a steaming pile of shit that critics would call ground breaking.

  9. I am quite enjoying this album but the lyrics are very sloppy. The song that springs to mind is 'Jolene'. Dreadful lyrics. I have nothing against simplified lyrics but these are just plain poor. Reminds me of 'wiggle wiggle' or Under the Red Sky.

I do think it's a pleasent album but not in the same league as the three records that preceeded it. Dylan has become such a legendary figure in culture that its impossible to give a objective opionion on any new album without taking into accout what has preceeded it. I'm sure album if this was by an artist I'd never heard of I wouldn't give it a second listen. Because its Bob I keep playing it convincing myself that its another classic album when in reality its just a few nice, simple songs. That's probably a poor reflection on me, but I think its true.

Funny, I find these lyrics to be way better then Modern Times. Like I said before I think Hunter served as an editor if anything. These sound distinctly like late era dylan and nothing like dead songs (although I could hear Bob Weir doing Jolene).

  10. I LOVES me some Weather Report Suite.

    (Set 1)

    Dancing In The Streets

    Tennessee Jed

    Golden Road (to Unlimited Devotion)

    Mr. Charlie

    They Love Each Other

    Touch of Grey

    Weather Report Suite

    (Set 2)

    Truckin'

    Throwing Stones

    Unbroken Chain

    Drums

    Space

    Come Together

    Hell In A Bucket

    I Know You Rider

    (Encore)

    Brokedown Palace

As do I, great great great first set. Second Set started off great with Truckin', the rest of the set was mediocore, not bad but weird second set tunes (oh the unbroken chain was awesome). Not enough space for this cats liking. I'll tell more when i got the time.

  11. Calvino: Was the "Hard Rain" the Bobby/Ratdog version or the Phil/P&F version or neither? I've always really, really liked the P&F version (great lilting rhythm) compared to the Ratdog version (slow and waning).

re: the setlists. Besides Drums/Space the setlists are really nothing compared to the GD ones, which makes sense. They're truly just an amalgamation of songs. The China Cat-> no rider has been done by ratdog and P & F a bunch with the Rider oftyen popping up at the next show.

i wasnt there but it was probably bobby's version since it was acoustic.

I cant belive day of the show im waking up with the worst kneck cramp :ohwell

Typical pat down heading into the Venue, but nothing extreme. Overall very great scene all around (for me at least).

so i take it puffing was no problem.

  12. I've been going to shows at Rosemont since 82 and have seen some overly aggressive behavior by the cops there. All you need to know is be aware of your surroundings and keep a low profile in the lot--common sense stuff. Once you're in for the show, you should fine (although I did see cops pulling people out of the audience for sparking up during an 87 Pink Floyd show).

Thanks for the heads up. I wasn't planning on doing anything stupid in the lot anyway. Thats real beat though about the cops on the inside. Hope its not like that tomorrow.

  13. You said a mouthful there, Paul. :thumbup I haven't been there since '88, because it was such an unpleasant scene.

Okay, someone clue me in, ive never been to the rosemont. What am I gonna have to worry about? Calvino I hope you come back on before tomorrow night i loved to hear how things were inside and out.

  14. Did I read correctly that there is now a spell check on this thing?? Wow, I never even noticed that thanks. As someone who's spelling is horrible I will use it from now on.

As far as Together through life.....I need to listen to it a few more times, but it is mediocre at best, although any Dylan album is always an event. (How did Robert Hunter get away with writing such uninspiring lyrics??)

    LouieB

I don't know if Hunter the one to blame. To these ears the lyrics sound distinctly late period dylan. I'm really curious as to what the involvement of Hunter was, but something tells me we wont be hearing from bob (hunter that is).

  15. Im glad you all liked it more reviews to come. ..... no blog though im just gonna keep using this place I love you all.

Whats so laughable about comparing life is hard to I threw it all away?? be speciffic

The production on Nashville Skyline, is among my favorites on any record, something about that warm sound. Personally I prefer Bob's singing on I threw it all away to the phrasing which get dylan through life is hard. The dynamics and arrangement of I threw It All Away are also much more interesting to these ears.

Life is Hard is defiantly not a bad track, I'd just have a hard time comparing anything on TTL or MT to his earlier work (let alone TOOM and L&T).

  16. 3. Sometimes, people just want attention, so they will start new threads to promote themselves, and give their reviews of things.

    4. I think if someone has that much stuff to unleash on the world, they should start a blog.

    Problem and answer.
