  1. Thanks for the info there. I think the most intelligent post was something along the lines of "he's doesn't just walk down the avenue, he assassins." I think it is interesting that people generally interpret the first line "I am an american aquarium drinker" to be about drinking. I read that as more of a metaphor for someone who enjoys watching people and the world around him. The "assassin" part I always looked at as someone who walks down the street in a menacing way.
  2. What does it mean? Cuz I've been listening to that song for 6 years and it hasn't dawned on me yet.
  3. I couldn't make it. :-( Did anyone see tapers? Would love to hear the acoustic version of She's a Jar...
  4. Yeah, I tried to change the subject line and delete the one I didn't like it. Couldn't figure it out.
  5. Oops. Too much sugar. Of course you are right. I've edited my original post to save myself further embarrassment.
  6. Here is a question that I could use some help from Wilco followers everywhere to answer: Have you come across any Wilco songs that have been covered by other bands and officially released? Like any other Wilco fan, I have my favorite songs and would be intrigued if they ever were covered. I remember coming across a Pavement cover of REM's Camera way back when and would like to know if Wilco have been "honored" in this way yet. And yes, I am aware of the Minus 5's Down with Wilco. Thanks much!

  8. I thought Sunken Treasure: Live in the Pacific Northwest made for an awesome live CD from Jeff. All I had to do was download the songs onto my iPod. But yeah, I would definitely welcome a solo cd is he had time around Wilco and his family. I'm sure there is a boatload of material he could play.
  9. Anyone going to GG Park today to check out Jeff's solo show? The last I read it was late this afternoon but then I saw something that made me think it might be tomorrow. Haven't seen any discussion of this on the boards - sorry if I missed it. Banjo Stage 2:10pm Augie March 3pm Buddy Miller 4:15pm T Bone Burnett & Friends (John Mellencamp, Neko Case, & Doyle Bramhall II) 5:45pm Jeff Tweedy
  10. As a huge fan of the Band (Last Waltz, Rock of Ages) I am ashamed I hadn't heard of the tribute album until this thread. I wonder if Wilco/Jeff Tweedy knew about or was asked to participate. They would have done a good job whatever song they chose. (Don't do it ?)
  11. When SBS first came out, I played Impossible Germany incessantly. I declared it the signature song of the album, etc. and the one that would be most remembered. My opinion of IG hasn't changed, and I was loving Hate it Here for awhile, but I cannot stop listening to "Please Be Patient With Me". I don't know if it's the guitar, the melody, the simple elegance of the song, or the lyrics, but this song is just amazing. Even when they aren't rocking, Wilco rocks!
  12. This is a great question! I'm gonna have to write these all down. One I haven't seen that is a favorite of mine is a violin section from "Jesus, etc." It's not the intro but it takes place right before the final chorus and it is awesome.
  13. I agree. Not exactly a "band" song in my mind. If the Tonight Show format limits their choice of songs, that's one thing. But otherwise, that's a song for my earphones, not a live telvision show (except maybe ACL). Like with their Letterman appearance, I would have preferred the extra hour of sleep. Another reason to get TiVo. Could Jay Leno be anymore inane and banal?
  14. Jesus, etc - mellow I'm a Wheel - hard driving My guess is they'll go mellow - either Hate it Here or Side with the seeds. If they play You are my Face, I will be massively disappointed and probably go right to sleep. I still think Walken would blow the audience away. Because the last half of Germany has no vocals, I would be shocked if they played that.
  15. As someone with a disability who has a hard time standing and keeping his balance, I think you can sit wherever you damn well want to and still be counted as a serious fan going to a concert.
  16. Sorry I couldn't make it to the show - would have liked to meet fellow VCers. Did anyone see people taping the show? Would really love a copy. Cool that it was Jeff's bday. The setlist looks pretty amazing.
  17. I couldn't find this thread, so I don't know if it has been discussed before. But has anyone seen any interviews where Jeff discusses the band's decision not to produce videos for MTV (or VH1)? Perhaps he feels they trivialize the music or pigeon hole the song. I'm just curious, as some bands I like (the White Stripes) have seemed to utilize the medium to spread their music to a bigger audience. And it would be cool to see a video for Hate it Here or Impossible Germany, IMHO.
  18. It's puzzling to me that they only booked one Bay Area show.
  19. Maybe they will do a fall SNL appearance to get some more nationwide pub.
  20. I was surprised to see they didn't make it to Milwaukee the past few weeks.
  21. Anyone know where it placed this week. The tour doesn't seem to be helping sales all that much. I wonder how Nonesuch is feeling about sales thus far.
  22. To quote you, quoting Sir Charles: "I don't care what people think, because some people are stupid." - Sir Charles Barkley
  23. as am I. I mean, why is it "the" sheets instead of "our/my" sheets? Don't those belong to someone too? Or does this imply that sheets can't be owned, unlike a bed, which clearly must be owned by someone. I think this is giving short shrift to the sheets. So I side with the sheets.
  24. Sarchi, Is that pic in your signature line George Clooney? ;-)
