  1. And here was The Minus 5 setlist as played, for our friends keeping track: Hold Down The Fort It's Beautiful Here The History You Hate I'm Not Bitter* There Is No Music* In The Ground* The Zero Clowns* The Days Of Wine And Booze*^ Aw Shit Man*^ My Generation*^ * — with Jessy Greene on violin ^ — with Liam Cunningham on keyboard
  2. Well, by the sounds of it, this was definitely a "second night's always better than the first" sort of situation, so I'm glad that if I could only make it to one of the two shows in LA, that this was the one. The Theatre at Ace Hotel is a beautifully restored old 1,600-capacity venue from the 1920s that was the former flagship movie palace of United Artists, but beyond aesthetics, the real jewel of the place is the sound system. They've definitely put resources toward that, seemingly, and it makes a significant difference; I've been to some similarly beautiful old theaters where the acoustics
  3. Probably about the time they learn they can turn off the photo clicking sound on their phones...
  4. Looks like Robyn is actually playing GAMH on Thursday (3/19)? Or did that change? Anyway, that would be fun if Scott played the Tweedy show and then sped over to join Robyn but doesn't sound like the timing quite worked out...
  5. Or perhaps I'm just an idiot...that's always a possibility! Globophobe! The Internet is wonderful indeed...
  6. Always glad to be of assistance, Herr Tatlock! And yes, usually I am making some in-progress edits for a short while after the initial post. I figure not many will notice, given the late hour, but you caught me this time...
  7. Replying to my own post here, but I also wanted to mention that I dug Eleanor Friedberger's opening set. I've seen her a few times, but tonight she had a full band of young guys playing behind her (two of them from San Francisco, apparently) and her vocals were really clear and strong. I didn't keep a setlist, but she played some rearranged versions of songs like Stare At The Sun that were pretty cool. Also of note, in thanking Tweedy for sharing the bill with her, she said that her band The Fiery Furnaces had opened for Wilco on a brief tour 11 years ago and that it had been a good experien
  8. Don't have time to write much of a recap right now, but in a lot of ways, this felt like a fairly typical first night of a two-night stand. It seemed to take Jeff a little while to get his feet under him, but by the time the big California Stars finale came around, he was all smiles. And so were we (well, mostly)... Jeff seemed especially taken with a couple of kids — brother and sister, I'm pretty sure — who were at the front at stage right, giving their parents some mock grief for taking them out on St. Patrick's Day, for keeping them up past their bedtime and for apparently teaching them
  9. Unfortunately, had to miss this one so I'm simply reposting the setlist from Wilcoworld...and expecting to generate virtually zero discussion. 01 - Nobody Dies Anymore02 - Wait For Love03 - Fake Fur Coat04 - Diamond Light Pt. 105 - Hazel06 - Flowering07 - Summer Noon08 - Honey Combed09 - Desert Bell10 - World Away11 - New Moon12 - High As Hello13 - Love Like a Wire (Diane Izzo cover)14 - Low Key15 - I Am Trying to Break Your Heart16 - New Madrid [uncle Tupelo]17 - Remember the Mountain Bed18 - You And I19 - Hummingbird20 - Jesus, Etc.21 - Forget the Flowers22 - Passenger Side23 - I'm the Man
  10. Last night it was "Spencer and me." I've heard it with "Wilco and me," and I'm sure some other slight variations as well.
  11. And here was the complete setlist, as played, for the Minus 5's opening set (the normal quartet of McCaughey, Buck, Pitmon and Giblin being joined tonight for the entirety of its set by Portland's own Casey Neill on electric guitar and backing vocals and for the end of its set by Tweedy multi-instrumentalist Liam Cunningham on keyboard): Remain In Lifeboat It's Magenta, Man! Hold Down The Fort The Unforeseen It's Beautiful Here In The Ground The Zero Clowns Adios Half Soldier Blue Rickenbacker (with Liam Cunningham on keyboard) Aw Shit Man (with Liam Cunninghan on keyboard) My Generation (wi
  12. When Jeff Tweedy remarks upon first checking in with an audience, "We have a history," and winds up turning an ongoing bit near the end of the show on guitarists' "riff face" into an extended fart joke, you know it's going to be a slightly weird night on Banter Corner... The former was, of course, a reference to the last — and apparently, only other — time Jeff had played this venue, on Feb. 3, 2006, when he gave an infamous "talkers" speech/rant during a solo performance. (This moment was captured for posterity on the Sunken Treasure: Live in the Pacific Northwest DVD, and can also be seen o
  13. IMHO the fact that srmt would feel any need to come on here and apologize for putting together or not putting together these benefits — whenever Jeff is able to do them — is pretty ridiculous. Or tell us about it any sooner than anyone else, for that matter. (Though it is always great to hear from her! xoxo)
  14. And for our Minus 5-tracking friends, here was the setlist for Seattle (the usual quartet of Scott McCaughey, Peter Buck, Michael Giblin and Linda Pitmon was joined for the entirety of tonight's set by, as Scott dubbed him, John "One Night Only" Ramberg on electric guitar and backing vocals; Tweedy multi-instrumentalist Liam Cunningham also joined on keyboard for two songs, as noted): Hold Down The Fort Remain In Lifeboat It's Magenta, Man! The Unforeseen It's Beautiful Here Zero Clowns Twilight Distillery* Aw Shit Man Blue Rickenbacker* In The Ground My Generation * — with Liam Cunningham
  15. I could probably write a fairly lengthy recap, but to be honest, it's been a long day and I'm hoping some other folks will chime in. Suffice it to say that personally it's nice to be back after very regretfully missing the two shows in Montana the past couple of nights. Those performances, especially in those venues, seemed like they would be fun. At least some of those good times carried over to tonight's show, which took place in the much more familiar setting of Seattle (though research indicates that Jeff had never played this particular venue before). The Neptune is a relatively intimat
  16. Much to my chagrin, I wasn't able to make it to this one. It doesn't seem like there's much reportage from the Montana shows. Was anyone in Missoula? (Because this venue looked especially tertiary and amazing...) At the very least. I figured I'd grab the setlist posted on Wilcoworld... 01 - Hazel02 - Fake Fur Coat03 - Diamond Light Pt. 104 - Flowering05 - World Away06 - Wait For Love07 - Summer Noon08 - New Moon09 - Nobody Dies Anymore10 - High As Hello11 - Love Like a Wire (Diane Izzo cover)12 - Low Key13 - I Am Trying to Break Your Heart14 - Losing End (Neil Young Cover)15 - Give Back The
  17. Interesting. Maybe that's the benefit this year?
  18. I know, I know...I doubt I've called too many people "gal," in my life either. How about "person of the female persuasion?" Gary looked and sounded more or less the same as ever (especially when he got an SG strapped on), and he even managed to get in a couple of zingers of his own that I neglected to mention. Like after Jeff's comment about how playing with him was like riding a bike, Gary fired back with, "Ride me, Jeff!" And later, he said something like, "It's an honor to be up here with Mr. Tweedy...I mean, Spencer Tweedy." (All this after Jeff had introduced Gary by saying, "Look who
  19. Forgot to mention that in his introduction, the person from The Current radio station said that some incarnation of the band (not sure if it was Jeff and Spencer or the whole band) had done a session earlier in the day and it would air I think at 5 p.m. today (Monday)? Guess there aren't too many Minnesotans on here or else they probably would have chimed in already, but maybe someone can confirm this... Edit: I was informed that the details are in Wilco's most recent Instagram post from yesterday. 5 p.m. CST today then. I'm sure it will be archived for future listening at some point.
  20. For the folks tracking The Minus 5's setlists, the quartet of Scott McCaughey, Peter Buck, Linda Pitmon and Michael Giblin also seemed to have a little extra juice tonight, owing perhaps to the venue as well as having a few recent shows (and in Scott's case, a drink or two) under their belts. And it apparently being Giblin's birthday... The Minus 5 setlist for Minneapolis, as played: Blue Rickenbacker It's Magenta, Man! Hold Down The Fort I'm Not Bitter In The Ground It's Beautiful Here The Old Plantation Lies of the Living Dead The Zero Clowns My Generation Aw Shit Man A couple of quick
  21. Well, if anyone thought the guys (and maybe now, gal) in Tweedy might be a little fatigued the night after two big hometown shows, then they were fortunately mistaken. An off night could still happen on this relatively long tour, but it won't be in Minneapolis. Part of that surely had to do with being back in that city's iconic rock club, which Jeff said was "still an oasis for every fucking rock band out there," (and which of course brings to mind how his wife's late, lamented bar Lounge Ax was often described). While I came into the show annoyed at First Avenue for not letting you pick up y
  22. One other cool thing, at least to me, was after Give Back The Key... when Jeff mentioned how it had just occurred to him (and it apparently hadn't on Night 1) that he had played that song on the same stage when he was about Spencer's age. I presume he was referring to Uncle Tupelo's renowned 10/15/93 show at the Vic (though I haven't checked to see if they played the Vic other times). If so, the timelines don't quite match up in terms of Jeff's and Spencer's ages; Jeff would have been around 26. But obviously the sentiment of being relatively young musicians playing that venue remains. Any
  23. Re: Dungeon Golds, I was just going by Scott's own introduction of the song. I actually didn't realize at the time that it's not on the 5-LP set that came out last year, but then I noticed that it is the title of the best-of album from that collection that's being released here in the U.S. next week so perhaps it's a new song on that?
