I loved this setlist. It was much better than Cats. I'm going to see it again and again! Just the facts, ma'am — here was the complete setlist as played (unfortunately the threat of lightning apparently forced the band to entirely scrap what would have been a pretty rockin' first encore: Kingpin>Monday>Outtasite (Outta Mind)): Via Chicago Handshake Drugs Camera Company In My Back Art Of Almost I Am Trying To Break Your Heart> One Wing Panthers Hummingbird Secret of the Sea Heavy Metal Drummer> I'm The Man Who Loves You Sunken Treasure (acoustic arrangement; Jeff on acoustic guita

Wilco — 7/14/15, Morrison, CO (Red Rocks Amphitheatre)

Thanks for sharing your insights, Sandy. I'm glad to know the way upfront folks were into it (in spite of the reverse GA-reserved seating thing). In retrospect, I think maybe that's partly what was bumming me out about the vibe around me was that people really seemed to be insular in their enjoyment of the show, if they were enjoying it. Of course I know that different people experience things in different ways (not gonna quote Low Key here, but hopefully you catch my drift...) but I guess I'm used to being around people who are more demonstrative or something. And then there was the row of VI -

Glad your friends had a good time. Like I said, from my vantage point, it was an OK show. Professional, perfectly fine. They can't all be truly transcendent. And I think you're right that at least part of it has to do with the concertgoer as well. Not gonna quote Muzzle of Bees here, but hopefully you catch my drift... -

Oh, I fully understand what you're getting at here. And I totally get that for the vast majority of people, that's the one show they'll see this year (or for a couple of years). Just to make it clear, I've always been perfectly fine with whatever Jeff and the band feel like presenting on any given night. I'm not overtly criticizing any choices that have been made, just observing that for this run anyway, he/they seem to have more or less decided what songs will work in these venues and settings they're playing and are staying the course with them. Which is fine, and certainly his/their prerog -
For some time now, I've viewed shows in iconic venues with a certain degree of skepticism. On one hand, who wouldn't want to attend a show at such venues as the Hollywood Bowl, Sydney Opera House, Ryman Auditorium or Red Rocks Amphitheatre? These are places people travel from far and wide to experience and go out of their way to knock off their proverbial bucket lists. On the other hand, a concert can't be great just because of the venue and not every concert in an iconic venue can be great. More often than not, in my experience, these iconic venue shows don't measure up to shows in less her

It seems like they wouldn't be that literal, but you never know. I think an all-acoustic set is probably a better bet. It would certainly be much less work for the crew...

Well, since the Tweedy band is playing at Forecastle Festival in Louisville on Saturday, I'd say chances are pretty slim...

Wilco @ Winnipeg Folk Festival - how many songs played?
bböp replied to wilcoexaminer's topic in After The Show
Apparently it was three — War On War, Hummingbird and Bull Black Nova. Setlist, such as it is, on Wilcoworld: http://wilcoworld.net/#!/tour_date_type/12-july-2015-winnipeg-folk-festival-winnipeg-manitoba-2/ -
Nice to see you again as well! Thanks for saying hi, and for the kind words! Oh, and re: Woody and Laura, thanks for mentioning it! I actually wasn't sure they had moved up to side stage for the Wilco set, but I figured they must have. Turns out they have been shooting a project in town. Someone sent me a link: http://www.citypages.com/arts/woody-harrelson-laura-dern-shooting-graphic-novel-movie-in-the-twin-cities-7424746

Despite starting 10 minutes late, Wilco actually played a bit beyond its 90-minute slot headlining the main (Sun Country) stage and closing out this year's Basilica Block Party. And thankfully the band did because those extra minutes helped provide one highlight of the set when Jason Isbell — who had immediately preceded Wilco on the stage — came out with his gold Gibson Les Paul to take a solo on California Stars. Isbell, who seemed to develop a bit of rapport (or is it just guitar geekery?) with Nels, delivered a nice jangly solo when his turn came up and did a better job than many others

Yeah, I guess it has been weirdly quiet around these parts in terms of this show. On a personal level, I blame it on an extra-busy weekend; apologies for the delay... I guess I was also thinking a few more people would chime in, but then again, this year's show wasn't all that well attended, unfortunately. The balcony was only half full, by the looks of it, and the floor didn't feel all that crowded either. You could speculate on why — an especially-busy Friday in Chicago show-wise with Gary Louris/Kraig Johnson, Tame Impala and Ben Folds, among others, also in town; or Wilco/Tweedy burnout

Not really on topic, but Jeff mentioned that he was sounding "a bit froggy" either in Louisville or last night in Atlanta because he was battling a "warm weather cold" (plus nearly three weeks of shows) and I was thinking someone should cut that audio snippet for you... Beyond my technical skills, but surely somebody can do it when the recording surfaces.

And so ends another Wilco run, this one being one of the longest uninterrupted stretches for the full band in a while (18 days). At any rate, it's the last time Wilco will play until Solid Sound and the tour ended on a strong, if entirely too brief, note at the third annual Shaky Knees Festival. Don't have too much commentary, other than to say that the crowd was generally pretty enthusiastic even after baking under the hot sun all day. The band responded with a set that was a combination of greatest hits and a few deep cuts, as has been the case for most of the shows on this 20th anniversar

You guys should go! I believe it's a baseball stadium of some kind, and it's going to be hot (but it's a dry heat)...

For anyone in St. Louis today, it looks like Tweedy (the band, or at least some of the members) are playing an in store sometime today at Vintage Vinyl, which is down the street from the Pageant as I recall. Don't know what time. Someone go and report back! Wish I could be there... Saw a post on Spencer's Instagram about it, and coincidentally he's also "taking over" the Solid Sound Instagram today apparently. Social media, ftw!

I know Jody Stephens typically sits in when Wilco plays in Memphis and he's in town and I know they usually play Box Full Of Letters and In The Street, but I'm still interested to hear how this most recent convergence of Big Star and Wilco went (as well as the rest of the show), so c'mon Memphians and/or travelers! By all accounts, it was beautiful day to be outside and I was bummed to miss this one... Fwiw, Jody posted on his Facebook just now: One of the best things about sittin in with Wilco is watching their performance unfold before...the vantage point is a big plus. A lot of soul an

The show's tonight, if I'm not mistaken.

Nice job on the recap! I usually don't have to drive so much before and after a show, but it does take some time to put together a reasonably coherent report. Thanks for reading my blather year after year... I've been wondering how they'd deal with the hootenanny as they start to play bigger outdoor venues. I guess it doesn't matter if you're relatively close, but it must seem a little muffled or distant if you're way back on a big lawn or something. I assume they'll keep doing it as part of these Wilco 20 shows, at least at non-festival gigs, but we'll see... It definitely helps in

Don't suppose that anyone on here made it to the aftershow that was referenced in the Times-Picayune's recap? I should have put two and two together and figured that Nels, at least, would have been at that show at City Park given his connection with Quintron but I overlooked it in all of the other Jazz Fest aftershow listings. It sounds like Mike and Pat were also there, though I'm not sure if they also performed or not. At any rate, I'd love to hear more about the show. Definitely a bummer to have missed it! Sounds like an excellent one...more info here.

They were also selling the Nels and Julian Lage "Room" vinyl (which I backed on Pledge Music and still haven't gotten my copy!) And I think it's been determined that the hootenanny Hoodoo doesn't need cowbell (go ahead and insert "more cowbell" joke here). The Nels/Pat dobro/banjo duel was pretty excellent, though! -
Well, they just cut off the Wilco set at Jazz Fest with about an hour left due to some scary lightning in the vicinity and an imminent downpour. Too bad! Seemed like the band was having a good time out there, but it just got to be untenable (especially after a couple of big static shocks went through the PA). Of course the sun came out about 45 minutes after they called it... Here was the complete setlist, as played (or "gotten in"): Handshake Drugs Camera Walken I'm The Man Who Loves You Secret Of The Sea Heavy Metal Drummer Hummingbird Red-Eyed and Blue> I Got You (At The End of the Ce

Thanks for the thought, but unfortunately won't be able to get to FLA this time around. Hope you enjoy the run! Look forward to the reports...
