  2. Well put, my dear! It's not the same as it was, but I for one am glad you're still willing and able to make a kamikaze run every once in a while...always great to see you. I think it's pretty cool that so many lasting friendships have been formed because of this band. That's definitely something worth celebrating!
  3. Man, I tuned in and everything. What a bummer! Turned out Sunday's show was just an older English bloke backed by guys wearing lucha libre masks, wtf?
  4. I know tonight's show was broadcast live on the radio — by the way, can anyone who was listening say whether they bleeped Jeff when he said "shitty" at one point? I was curious — but for posterity's sake, here was the complete setlist as played: Less Than You Think> Ashes Of American Flags ($6.53) Bull Black Nova I Am Trying To Break Your Heart> One Wing Panthers (full band debut) Blue-Eyed Soul I'll Fight Poor Places> Art Of Almost I Might Radio Cure At My Window Sad and Lonely Secret of the Sea What Light Hesitating Beauty Box Full of Letters The Late Greats The Good Part Jesus, e

  8. Yeah, that was definitely a highlight (the highlight?)! I think at least one of my seatmates couldn't quite believe her ears when they started playing that. It's a definite rarity, like a true deep cut, especially for this lineup. The band played it somewhat regularly in summer and fall 2000 when they toured behind Mermaid II, but I'm pretty sure this was only the second time the current lineup has played it. They did it two summers ago at the Hoboken Americanarama stop when Warren Haynes joined them on slide. This time, Nels handled the slide duties and sounded great. It looked like they were
  9. Well, you couldn't have asked much more from the band on a Wednesday night on the eve of a big hometown run. Far from using it as a mere warmup gig, though, Jeff and Co. really pulled out a killer set for their "home away from home" crowd. More to come, but for now here was the complete setlist as played: Company In My Back Poor Places> Art Of Almost I Might Hell Is Chrome Ashes Of American Flags War On War No More Poetry (Jeff solo acoustic, essentially, with some percussive hints from Glenn) Cars Can't Escape Feed Of Man Someday Soon It's Just That Simple Airline To Heaven Jesus, etc.
  10. Thanks for the report! Sounds like you guys got a little bit of a serendipitous performance from Nels (maybe because he didn't have too much time to think about it). I saw that they decided to cancel the following night's show in Portland, ME, though I'm not sure about the rest of the dates. Hopefully Julian is doing better because the two of them together really are terrific, but sometimes you get "lucky" to see Nels get to do his own thing. He certainly doesn't do it very often, and I think it genuinely freaks him out to play solo — hence the red wine — even though he's obviously more than c
  11. Yeah, it wasn't quite that extreme this time but I could just imagine Jeff in the wings thinking, "Damn, I have to follow this?" Maybe if they were doing something a little more uptempo like Only The Lord Knows it would have been OK, but You Are Not Alone was just a tough one in that slot.
  12. It might look good when it gets edited together, but it was kind of plodding to actually be there because of all the moving parts. I thought Jeff and Spencer got the worst slot of the night. I mean, how do you have them come out and do You Are Not Alone right after the disco-boogie of Slippery People and right before the climactic I'll Take You There? I know they're hometown heroes and all that, but unfortunately they kind of got lost in the shuffle IMHO. That said, it was cool to see Jeff, Patty Griffin and Emmylou Harris gathered around one mike for The Weight.
  13. Oh man, so I guess this was the same Palladium where the live album was recorded? Hope one of those was the Marvin Gaye show you were lucky enough to be at... Excellent recap, sir! Thanks for the details...a fine job, I might say. Glad you got to the show and enjoyed it. It is always a bit tough to report from Banter Corner, because so much of it is generated in the moment and, as you say, Mr. T's comic timing is usually quite stellar. It must have been a little bit of a weird venue to see them in, by the sounds of it, but then again, some of the venues for the Tweedy band here in th
  14. Looking forward to reading your reports on the TWEEDY band! The funny thing is ST was actually in Port Chester last night (I think the Tweedys are flying over today), so I was hoping we might get a little guest spot. But it wasn't to be. What's the Capitol Theatre when you've already played Madison Square Garden as a 12-year-old, right? Haha. Anyway, have fun! I hear that Sukierae is doing quite well on the other side of the pond, hence the quick return there early next year...
  15. Surprised that no one has mentioned how Jeff basically chided the crowd for not really "giving it up" between the main set and the first encore. And it was true. That's a big pet peeve of mine when people basically don't even applaud and then just expect that the band will come back out. Jeff seemed a bit miffed and/or annoyed at that; for him to even say something about it, you knew it was a pretty lackluster ovation. I think Jeff sort of said something like, "We've already played two hours...we don't have to keep playing." A small part of me wished he was more of a dick and just decided to
  16. That's because the alternate version from the More Like The Moon/Australian EP (which I'm sure this is) is spelled Camera. http://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/More_Like_the_Moon
  17. You and your Leica... Great shot, sir! Who said you weren't shooting? :ninja
  18. Just to address the line and venue questions...I'd say the line started forming in earnest around 5. It really didn't get that long until around maybe 6. That's not really very hard core, relatively speaking, though I guess if you were looking for a spot in the smallish seated section, then you probably should've gotten there earlier. I was wondering about how the view was from the seats or the hill for that matter because the stage is so low and there's that elevated "lip" where people stand right up against the stage. Having gone to Jeff's solo show at NCMA in 2006, I was really curious ab

  20. I guess this one will forever be known as the One With The Beer Can Throwing...but thankfully it came early on and ended up still being a fun night. Looks like there was one change from the printed list: Unfortunately they cut Kicking Television (which was apparently soundchecked) in the first encore and replaced it with Outtasite. Red-Eyed>I Got You>Outtasite is the classic rockin' encore, but it's been a while since full-band Kicking TV! Here was the complete setlist, as played: Ashes Of American Flags Either Way I Am Trying To Break Your Heart> Art Of Almost At Least That's W
  21. Looks like it's only been done live by the full band five times previous to tonight, twice on the "Evening With" tour in 2010 (in Montclair, NJ and Pittsburgh) and then three times in 2003 when the MLTM EP had just come out. So just twice before with the current lineup... I guess I'm such an old-timer around these parts nowadays that I was actually at the song's live debut (according to Wilcobase/Wilcoworld) on April 28, 2003 at Yale University. I've always had a soft spot for it for a few reasons, though, so it was wonderful to get to hear the full band dust it off again tonight. And Jeff
