  1. Born Alone Be Not So Fearful [bill Fay] Please Tell My Brother Via Chicago (auction) One Sunday Morning (auction) Hoodoo Voodoo (auction) Pecan Pie (auction) New Madrid I'm The Man Who Loves You
  2. There was a kind of creep-o woman who was involved in the bidding for a song (and actually had won one). When they asked her what song she wanted to hear, she started telling some story about how she actually wanted the song for a friend she'd had a fight with or something the night previous. I knew she was in trouble when she said she wanted to film Jeff playing it for her "friend." What song did she request? I'm not sure exactly, but it definitely wasn't one of Jeff's. She sort of mumbled something like "hello goodbye or whatever that song is." Not sure if she meant the Fabs' tune or somet
  3. Was hoping he'd play something off Sukierae, especially with srmt there, but I didn't necessarily want to get into the bidding fracas (even though it's of course for a great cause). Kind of funny that people at those shows who do bid on individual songs generally always request like the same 10 ones (Via Chicago, Pecan Pie, etc.)
  4. Oh, I just assumed that when it went to two weekends that bands would play both and tour the the week in between. But maybe that's not what Jazzfest does. Haven't been down there in a few years...
  5. This basically makes it almost certain they'll be at Jazzfest in NO, probably both weekends.
  6. Oh, nice...what song? Dion is a former bandmate of VC's own excellent soul man, our buddy Twisted Acres, so I was sad to miss him with Campilongo. I take it Nels didn't sit in with them? I know he's played some with Campilongo in NYC. Once saw them do a set at the old Living Room when they did, among other tunes, Apache and I Had Too Much To Dream (Last Night).
  7. That's right, elk goulash! My bad. Yeah, it's been a long time...
  8. Wow, the return of TimRoss! Glad you enjoyed. You'll have to bring some elk stew to the line potluck next time...
  9. Actually I just decided to sit in the balcony last night and watch over you guys from above...surprise!
  10. I remember some bootleg shirts outside the AmericanaramA shows, possibly with a picture of the band from the Jay era. And they've been getting bootlegged for years in Europe, fwiw.
  11. I'm not a musician, but Deeper Down seems to have quite a few chords and that's always an indicator to me of a song being a little more challenging to play. A lot of times a song might not seem that hard, but it's often ones that don't seem hard that actually are. A good example of that is Hummingbird. Not sure if you've ever gotten to see Jeff play that solo, but I never realized that one has so many chords. You wouldn't think it'd be that hard, but yikes! With Deeper Down, there's also the matter of Nels having to juggle the Jerry Jones "Shorty" 12-string and the lap steel. It's deceptiv
  12. I'm afraid I'm going to disappoint you on multiple fronts here, so best let others chime in on the pandemic, etc. I think it hasn't been as bad as last time, though some cracks are starting to show. Ban on snogging probably always helps, though...
  13. Other notable banter... Before the rarely played Everlasting Everything, Jeff admitted that "this song doesn't get a lot of requests. One of my favorite songs I ever wrote, and nobody likes it. Well, you know what? Bill Fay likes it, so fuck you." Of course Jeff broke down and apologized after the song. I couldn't help but imagine half the crowd being like, "Who's Bill Fay?"
  14. Just to have it on here, instead of only through a link that may disappear at some point, here's the complete setlist as played (with a little annotation) for Winterlude Night 5: Sunken Treasure (acoustic arrangement with harmonica) In A Future Age Remember The Mountain Bed Handshake Drugs (original version)> Panthers Why Would You Wanna Live Pick Up The Change (no harmonica) A Magazine Called Sunset ELT Blasting Fonda (full band debut?) Should've Been In Love Camera Born Alone Poor Places> Reservations Either Way Hummingbird Theologians Hotel Arizona Everlasting Everything California
  15. Ah, good to see you as well. I have to just post one thing real quick... Maybe the best single thing from tonight's show was during the hootenanny when Mike took a pillow to his melodica during the breakdown part of A Shot in the Arm. Well played, Mr. Jorgensen, well played.
  16. Jeff said they were playing it as it originally was conceived (demoed?). The frenetic double-time album version evolved later, as I understand it. This performance was a stripped down, slower version of the song.
  17. I guess I just meant weirdest in terms of setlists. It's hard to explain, but at certain points, I really felt like I had no idea what was coming next (which isn't always the case) and the pacing and song selection was just so all over the place. That doesn't always work, but in this case, it just felt liberating in a way. Like they could just do anything at any time, and did... So yeah, it just felt unique. Like you'll never hear this many random songs in one show again. It was definitely, in some sense, a show for the diehards. Duly noted, and thanks for the links! I always just refe
  18. I don't usually post in here, but I just had to come in to say: Lester! Lester! Lester! Go Cubs!
  19. Glenn's extended drum solo on Let's Not Get Carried Away was truly something to behold. Somehow I don't think Jeff was really in any hurry to resume the song...haha. Hard to believe they hadn't done LNGCA since late 2006. From banter corner, Jeff had a couple choice bits but perhaps none after Message From Mid-Bar when he talked about how "hate will keep us together" and how he believed it was more important that we hate the same things than love the same things, or something to that effect and mentioned hating racism. Then alluding to a lyric from the song, "Hate will save the dolphins, I st
  20. Hey Cait...it was nice meeting you as well! Glad you had a fun trip, and that you decided to chime in here. Here's hoping our paths cross again sometime...
  21. Thanks, though not necessary! Just had to park the thread for a few minutes so I had time to type.
  22. Well, that was one of the weirdest (and most awesome) Wilco shows in a long, long time. As Jeff said at the start of the first encore, "I don't think you'll see another show like this again."
  23. All good observations, particularly the one about Jeff's guitar playing. He was definitely on fire from that perspective, IMHO. Though he seemed a little distracted or focused (or something) at the beginning, I haven't seen him attack the guitar like that in some time. Of course the material definitely suited that, with Feed Of Man, Laminated Cat, the electric Spiders and even Sunken Treasure all giving Jeff some opportunities to shred a bit. I enjoyed seeing that, and maybe it was even a little cathartic for him. It's funny, I remember when Pieholden Suite used to be the Holy Grail for a lo
