  1. Yeah, that's right Sandy. On both counts. It's definitely kind of a weird closer, but I wonder — especially in the wake of the new record — how much Jeff feels compelled to play it just because it's one of the band's "showpiece" songs and, after all, they have subjected the crowd to a significant amount of new material. It'd be interesting to see a printed setlist from the show to know if there was anything else planned after IG. Then again, it could have just been a matter of time. (And to their credit, Jeff and Co. launched into IG with just a couple of minutes left in their allotted set ti

  3. Well, if this year's Solid Sound Festival saw Wilco perform its first-ever all-acoustic set, then the hootenanny fully arrived on the West Coast tonight when the band delivered another all-acoustic show at the intimate Independent club in advance of its official set at this year's Outside Lands Festival. Where do I begin, to quote a certain songwriter? Almost from the outset, it became clear that the band wouldn't take a break or shy away from playing the songs on its new album despite the acoustic setting. After opening with Less Than You Think and a cover of the Byrds' Wasn't Born To Foll
  4. Wow, Group of Death indeed. Best of luck to the Welsh! Not to derail this thread completely...I will say that one of the fun things about LA shows can be celeb spotting. We saw Jon Hamm again last night, who might be rivaling Ethan Hawke for most famous Wilco fan. Also a couple of friends who work in the industry and have worked with director Davis Guggenheim before stopped to chat with him; they said he was with his wife Elisabeth Shue. I'm sure there were more than a few musicians there as well. Bobb Bruno of Best Coast, a longtime friend and fan of the band, watched the whole show from s

  6. Only time for a brief recap now, but as the recorded opening notes of the album version of EKG rang out over the PA system and the band took the stage, its West Coast summer run got underway with the third live performance of Star Wars in its entirety. I'm sure that delighted many folks, perplexed others and maybe even soured a couple. I'll let others chime in on that, but suffice it to say the band continues to improve with each run through the new record. Personally, I think the almost-folkiness of songs like Taste The Ceiling and Where Do I Begin meshes well with the harder-hitting punch
  7. If you're referring to me, Herr Tatlock, I shall endeavour to live up to your (entirely too complimentary) characterization! No tits and mutilation forthcoming. Bubble and squeak, perhaps...
  8. Otherwise known as Camera... I think this is going to be the new correction, as in, "There's only one key" in Give Back The Key To My Heart and "There's only one secret" in Secret Of The Sea...
  9. Thanks, as always, for the recording (and rapid processing). Just one minor note on your track listing that you may want to adjust...Kamera should actually be Camera — with a 'C' — the alternate version of the song that they've been playing this year.
  10. Unfortunately, I wasn't able to witness the Vibes being Gathered in person. But a source told me that the setlist looked something like this (looks like the band had quite a bit more on the printed list — after California Stars, there was still Kingpin, Red-Eyed>I Got You, Dawned On Me, Outtasite and The Late Greats listed — but time ran out): More... 11. Fwiw, I think 3/4 and 3/5/05 are still maybe my favorite Jeff solo shows I ever attended. Great memories. And 6/8/04 was one of the most fun band shows, too...Jeff's seersucker suit, the Hummingbird hug, etc.
  12. Je sais. Just making sure she didn't come out at any point.
  13. Another reason I don't trust setlist.fm unequivocally — I was told by a very good source that they didn't play Woke Up This Morning (With My Mind On Jesus). The person who put that setlist in probably means Only The Lord Knows...
  14. Oh, I take full credit! Haha... And thanks again to those who offered supportive words in this thread. I think most people got what was I was trying to convey in my initial post and put it better than I did. I, in turn, definitely got some perspectives that I'll keep in mind moving forward. Now let's go have another listen to Star Wars! Yeah, thanks for flagging me down! Great to see you and chat for a few minutes as well!
  15. Jeff said at his MCA Pitchfork talk tonight that they're gonna play Star Wars tomorrow. Not sure if that means the whole record or just a few songs, but of course they're gonna play some of it because why put the record out now if not to play at least some of it on a big platform?

  17. Thank you, Herr Tatlock! The feeling is mutual... I appreciate the sentiment, and I'll try to keep calling 'em as I see 'em...so to speak. Also I realize most people who are interested in setlists nowadays probably get them from the Wilcoworld site (or more likely, via the Wilco Facebook account) or setlist.fm and usually those sources give you what you want to know, more or less. But be aware that there are often minor errors and/or a lack of detail with the info posted on those sites as well. Just sayin'.
  18. He did seem to struggle with his lyrics a touch more than usual, but I blame it on the mugginess! And I think Jeff probably benefitted more from the "encouragers" up front than anything I was doing...

  20. I loved this setlist. It was much better than Cats. I'm going to see it again and again! Just the facts, ma'am — here was the complete setlist as played (unfortunately the threat of lightning apparently forced the band to entirely scrap what would have been a pretty rockin' first encore: Kingpin>Monday>Outtasite (Outta Mind)): Via Chicago Handshake Drugs Camera Company In My Back Art Of Almost I Am Trying To Break Your Heart> One Wing Panthers Hummingbird Secret of the Sea Heavy Metal Drummer> I'm The Man Who Loves You Sunken Treasure (acoustic arrangement; Jeff on acoustic guita
  21. Thanks for sharing your insights, Sandy. I'm glad to know the way upfront folks were into it (in spite of the reverse GA-reserved seating thing). In retrospect, I think maybe that's partly what was bumming me out about the vibe around me was that people really seemed to be insular in their enjoyment of the show, if they were enjoying it. Of course I know that different people experience things in different ways (not gonna quote Low Key here, but hopefully you catch my drift...) but I guess I'm used to being around people who are more demonstrative or something. And then there was the row of VI
  22. Glad your friends had a good time. Like I said, from my vantage point, it was an OK show. Professional, perfectly fine. They can't all be truly transcendent. And I think you're right that at least part of it has to do with the concertgoer as well. Not gonna quote Muzzle of Bees here, but hopefully you catch my drift...
