Not really on topic, but Jeff mentioned that he was sounding "a bit froggy" either in Louisville or last night in Atlanta because he was battling a "warm weather cold" (plus nearly three weeks of shows) and I was thinking someone should cut that audio snippet for you... Beyond my technical skills, but surely somebody can do it when the recording surfaces.

And so ends another Wilco run, this one being one of the longest uninterrupted stretches for the full band in a while (18 days). At any rate, it's the last time Wilco will play until Solid Sound and the tour ended on a strong, if entirely too brief, note at the third annual Shaky Knees Festival. Don't have too much commentary, other than to say that the crowd was generally pretty enthusiastic even after baking under the hot sun all day. The band responded with a set that was a combination of greatest hits and a few deep cuts, as has been the case for most of the shows on this 20th anniversar

For anyone in St. Louis today, it looks like Tweedy (the band, or at least some of the members) are playing an in store sometime today at Vintage Vinyl, which is down the street from the Pageant as I recall. Don't know what time. Someone go and report back! Wish I could be there... I know Jody Stephens typically sits in when Wilco plays in Memphis and he's in town and I know they usually play Box Full Of Letters and In The Street, but I'm still interested to hear how this most recent convergence of Big Star and Wilco went (as well as the rest of the show), so c'mon Memphians and/or travelers! Nice job on the recap! I usually don't have to drive so much before and after a show, but it does take some time to put together a reasonably coherent report. Thanks for reading my blather year after year... I've been wondering how they'd deal with the hootenanny as they start to play bigger outdoor venues. I guess it doesn't matter if you're relatively close, but it must seem a little muffled or distant if you're way back on a big lawn or something. I assume they'll keep doing it as part of these Wilco 20 shows, at least at non-festival gigs, but we'll see... It definitely helps in

Don't suppose that anyone on here made it to the aftershow that was referenced in the Times-Picayune's recap? I should have put two and two together and figured that Nels, at least, would have been at that show at City Park given his connection with Quintron but I overlooked it in all of the other Jazz Fest aftershow listings. It sounds like Mike and Pat were also there, though I'm not sure if they also performed or not. At any rate, I'd love to hear more about the show. Definitely a bummer to have missed it! They were also selling the Nels and Julian Lage "Room" vinyl (which I backed on Pledge Music and still haven't gotten my copy!) And I think it's been determined that the hootenanny Hoodoo doesn't need cowbell (go ahead and insert "more cowbell" joke here). The Nels/Pat dobro/banjo duel was pretty excellent, though!

Well, they just cut off the Wilco set at Jazz Fest with about an hour left due to some scary lightning in the vicinity and an imminent downpour. Too bad! Seemed like the band was having a good time out there, but it just got to be untenable (especially after a couple of big static shocks went through the PA). Of course the sun came out about 45 minutes after they called it... I'm working on little to no sleep, so this might be a bit of a shorter recap than usual. At any rate, not a huge amount to say except that in its first performance of 2015, the band seemed to pick up almost right where it left off at the Winterlude run in Chicago last December. That meant the fortunate Dallas crowd got to witness firsthand some of the great things about this 20th anniversary tour — namely, a few rarities from the box set, some deeper album cuts, the hootenanny encore. It certainly seems like that will be the general blueprint for at least this next run of Wilco shows moving

You'd probably do well to buy the digital-only collection called 50 Vc. Doberman which I think is still available on his Web site. It's a lot of music, but pretty worthwhile IMHO. His most recent studio record on Bloodshot (the title escapes me at the moment) is good as well.

I've meant to chime in on this show, but other stuff has always gotten in the way. Ah well, I guess some shows will just live mostly in the memories of those who were there... I do remember Jeff being pissed by the lack of encore response. I've personally heard worse, but for him to comment on it, it must have sounded pretty lackluster. Unfortunately I wasn't able to make it to Iowa City for last night's finale of the spring TWEEDY tour, and it sounds like there was at least one amazing occurrence that I missed (I can only hope that it gets repeated again someday , and I'd love to hear more details from anyone else who was there )... Joe's Field is indeed a field, but it's a lot smaller than your average fest field; it probably holds like 8,000-10,000 max. What some people do is set up chairs and/or a blanket first thing and then either monitor it throughout the day and/or make friends with groups around them so that there's always someone keeping an eye on the "camp." Or just head over to Joe's Field a few hours before and find a spot. As long as you don't absolutely have to be right on the rail, I think you'll be pleasantly surprised.
