Wilco — 6 September 2016, San Francisco, CA (The Fillmore) [Night 1 of 5]

Sorry, needed a nap! -
Parking this thread for now...with comments to come. OK, just for Herr Tatlock (and whomever else might be interested), here are le promised comments... Well, another Wilco residency is upon us — the first of this length that the band has ever done outside of Chicago, I'm pretty sure — and, as usual, it will be highly interesting to see how this one turns out after getting a baseline of sorts on Night 1. While there might not necessarily be quite as much variety this time, given the likely showcasing of songs from Wilco Schmilco each night, it should nonetheless feature a number of tunes

I wasn't there myself, unfortunately, but it looks like the stripped-down Schmilco tour is officially underway! Will be interesting to see how things evolve. Perhaps someone who was there can report more on the stage setup (a picture that was sent to me showed Glenn, Mike and Pat all playing without their usual risers, for example, and that big cabinet amp that Jeff has used the past year is gone — as expected). Anyway, from a photo of the printed setlist, it looks like here's what was played (yay Pick Up The Change!): If I Ever Was A Child Cry All Day Misunderstood The Joke Explained Someon

Yep. You can email me at thevalet [at] gmail .

Not publicly, to my knowledge. Jeff has played it during at least one living room show.

In an average month how much do you listen to Wilco?

Those, and comedy podcasts, are the new indie rock. -
Wilco - 30 August 2016, Salt Lake City, UT (Red Butte Garden)
bböp replied to nalafej's topic in After The Show
Yeah, I was kinda secretly hoping for that big cabinet to go away because when you're on the John/Pat side, you can forget Mike is even up there! Thanks for the reporting. You always seem to make it to the Red Butte/SLC show...do you have family out there or anything? Just wondering. Anyway, I won't be able to make it until SF on this run so it'll be interesting to see what happens the next couple of nights. I don't know the Boise venue, but if it's outside like Red Butte, I'm guessing a similar show to this one. Then Seattle and Portland, which are indoors, should be interesting... -
This thread, and all of people's reactions not even to the new record itself but just *the reviews of the new record*, make me understand why Jeff so enjoyed the way Star Wars was released. Yeesh!

SOLD - Sound Summit, Mill Valley 9/17/2016 (Wilco, Los Lobos, etc.)
bböp replied to gogo's topic in Got Extras?
Aww...bummer. (Fwiw, though, I bet that parking pass will be pretty in demand. ) -
Not sure what the deal with Wilco Schmilco is but I heard the vinyl of Nels' record was delayed because he rejected two test pressings. Personally I'd rather wait a little longer and get the best possible pressing. Too much new vinyl these days has quality control issues, IMHO.

I've got an extra orchestra single for the Wednesday 9/14 show at the Ace Hotel if anyone is interested. Just looking for face value, which was basically $75 including fees. Let me know...either by replying here or e-mailing me at thevalet [at] gmail .

How many hands you got?
-
Of course they're gonna mix it up. I won't say they will play no repeats for five nights, but having seen the band a handful of times, I can say with reasonable certainty that there will be some variety in the Fillmore setlists. A more interesting question, perhaps, is whether there will be five different posters or just one for the entire residency?

Trey bangerz sounds good to me (but maybe I just have sausages or rappers on the brain)... -

You would have preferred triad? Or trio? Triumvirate, perhaps? -
I don't know for sure, but I'm guessing the Harris is where the band held its aftershow reception for guests. I mean, imagine how many guests the band must have had to accommodate for such a big show in its "hometown."

I'm sure plenty of folks will chime in eventually, and maybe I will add more too, but as Jeff basically said in his radio interview with the Current prior to Saturday's Minneapolis show, this is the setlist he has come up with that he feels works best for a big outdoor show and the band is pretty much sticking to it for the time being (though as Jeff also alluded to in the interview, that could end as soon as they start playing more intimate indoor shows starting next month). In any case, there weren't many surprises for those who have been following the band's recent performances — although

Somewhat of a formality in posting the setlist here, since the show was live streamed, but anyway it turned into a lovely night after some intermittent sprinkles. And a pretty fun show, too, that ended up stretching to nearly two hours and 20 minutes. Here was the complete setlist, as played (there were no changes from the printed list): More... I don't ever trust Setlist.fm to be totally accurate, but I guess it's better than nothing. Anyway, I would bet almost anything they flip-flopped If I Ever Was A Child and Jesus, etc. in the above list. One good thing about a relatively static setlist is that you know where stuff usually tends to go, and in this current one, everywhere else at least, Jesus has immediately followed Spiders followed by the two Schmilco songs back-to-back. Also, I'm guessing they didn't follow up Red-Eyed>I Got You with the "Sesame Street" Outta Mind (Outta Sight) but rather the rockin' Outtasite (Outta Mind -

Slacker Wisconsinites..:would it kill you to take a few notes? Just kidding (kinda). Thanks for your post, Ms. (or is it Mrs.?) Stone. Glad you enjoyed the show and for those who like to bitch and moan about setlist variety and the like, it's always worth remembering that there are far more people who only get to see the band once or twice every couple of years if they're lucky. I've been thinking lately that there's no way to make all your fans happy all the time. So you try to appeal to the most people you can as often as you can. That might not be the strategy that makes Wilco a "cool" -
Just one big lawn. You can't really see the stage very well unless you're at the very front of the lawn area, which would probably require getting in line fairly early. There is a huge screen that may or may not be used, so that could help with viewing from the lawn. Any reserved seat in the pavilion will have a view of the stage, but it's a pretty wide stage so closer to center would be ideal (obviously). The 200s should be fine, depending on how close you need to be for your definition of a "great" seat. If you're used to being pretty close, then probably something in the 100s would be bet

Wilco — 17 August 2016, St. Louis, MO (Fabulous Fox Theatre)
bböp replied to bböp's topic in After The Show
Unfortunately not! Sounds like that was a bad one to decide to sit out, given the number of cool people I know who are going, but something had to give. Thanks for the offer, though! -
Sometimes you walk out of a show on a cloud, just knowing deep down that it had been a thoroughly satisfying, life-affirming performance. And then other times, you walk out with a bit of a sour taste in your mouth for whatever reason. Usually these feelings are utterly personal, based on your own perspective, your reaction to the music itself, the talent of the performer, the energy of the audience or any number of other factors. A great show to one person might be somewhat disappointing to another. So feel free to take this with a grain of salt, but for me, this show at the Fabulous Fox just

Managed to sneak into the in-store performance and signing at Euclid Records that just concluded — the band might still be signing autographs out back — so I figured I'd post this quickly... This was a relatively short (28 minutes, by my watch), acoustic (mostly), mid-afternoon set (prior to the Fox Theatre show later that night) by the band before a crowd of about 175 folks who had pre-ordered Wilco Schmilco. Jeff said it was good to be back and remarked that he never worked at this store location but had worked for Euclid Records once upon a time (and was fired). It was pretty steamy in th
