See, I don't believe that. I can't conceive of it. -

No, science does not explain how something came out of nothing. Science attempts to explain what happend to that something a long, long, long time ago, possibly shortly after it came into being. -

I'm sorry, what? The Big Bang doesn't explain anything about how the universe came into being. It attempts to explain the nature and behavior of the universe, and how it came to be in its present state. How did the Big Bang happen? Where did the matter and energy that has existed since the Big Bang pop out of nonexistence? What happened before? I don't know why you quoted my post, as nothing in your reply addressed my question. Whether or not natural scientists believe in God does nothing to explain the origin of the universe. -

I could just co-opt gary's avatar, also. edit: gary, please delete and repost, so my post is at the bottom of the previous page. -

I rode my bike to work today for the first time in almost a month, and I gotta tell ya, it was a little tough on the old lungs. The fact that I've had a upper respiratory infection of some type for pretty much that whole month may have been a factor as well. On a related note, I will not be wearing fingerless gloves again the next time I choose to ride my bike to work when the temperatures are in the 20s. -

Pig, you should also put PCU in your queue. It's slightly dated, but one of my favorite movies from college. I watched the Nicolas Cage remake of "The Wicker Man" last night. Yawn.

Oh, I don't deny he has the right to be a dick about it. I'm just saying he's being a dick about it. -

Not that I'm aware of, but that doesn't mitigate his personal intolerance of people with beliefs different than his. -
#2 is correct. It was a 1904 Buffalo nickel. I'm gonna go with #1 for you.

1. I scored precisely two points in my high school basketball career before breaking my hand punching some kid in the head on the school bus (not sports-related). I never played organized basketball again. 2. I found an 1896 Buffalo nickel in my change drawer at the wine store, switched it for a regular nickel, and promptly lost it. 3. I got shitfaced and sang "My Bonny Lies over the Ocean" with the then-current and at least one former Burgermeister of a small Bavarian town, circa December 1994.

How is ridiculing religion as fairy tales and fantasy anything but proselytizing atheism? For me, accepting that the universe was created from nothing is a much greater leap of faith than believing that some entity created it. Now whether or not you believe that said entity will intercede on your behalf when it comes to important matters such as war and football games, that's another matter entirely. -
