Reni
yeah I had the same prediction Edie....I predicted 2-1 for the Sox/Cards too.....but wow, that wasn't meant to be.
benjamin
WTF?!?!?!?! how does Nomar not make the all-star selection? Has the league batting avg leader ever not made the all star team? Why aren't there more A's or Tiger's. Bush League.... Laughable... HA!
EL the Famous
Well to listen to the 'fraidy cats Cubs announcing team (who suck BTW), you'd think that a 6 run lead was 1. If I had known that WGN had the Sox guys, I'd have watched it. I had this series pegged at 2 of 3 for the Sox and 4 of 6 for the season -- so there both broadcast teams suck. that said, w/ the way the Cubs seem to blow a sizeable lead in the blink of an eye this season, of course the announcers are going to be conservative. Yes, you sure showed me.
Edie
Yes, you sure showed me. Oh I know, to Cubs fans, this was like some huge victory to not get swept, since every other team in both leagues have been beating on them like a rented mule. Enjoy it....

Fakeliz
I'd just like to jump in as a lone Royals fan and congratulate our boys on beating the Cards two out of three games at Busch stadium. I think we've only lost four of the last 13, which is huge. For us. Come on. We've been struggling to break .500 for years. AND, Dayton Moore gets giant props in my book for making a clause in his contract that team owner David Glass (the Wal-Mart devil man) would have no say in Moore's staffing choices. Atta boy, Dayton. KC fans finally have a reason to feel optimistic about the future.
Guest baseball bobblehead
i have a KC Royals hat that i wear easily as much as my Boston Red Sox hat.
Fakeliz
Aww, really? That makes me happy. The team has just been in a crap spiral for so long -- there's not much that can be done with our current owner and the way profits are(n't) split in the MLB. It's a tough hand to be dealt. Hopefully Moore will stick with KC long enough to help out a bit.

Fakeliz
Tony G -- yes.Mark G -- I'm not sure. There is a Mark G, but I dunno if it's the one you're picturing. This dude played for the Cards before playing for us. In the spirit of this thread, I will now go to a baseball game in support of the boys in blue (as soon as my friend gets here... good thing MChris lives mighty close to the stadium). Fakeliz
GrudzielanekReally? Then yep, both are still Royals. Neither had a stand-out game tonight, but then again, neither was the reason we blew our two-run lead and lost 6-5. Ah well. There was certainly optimism in the air, which is something that's been missing for way too long. And the pre-Fourth of July fireworks show following the game was incredible. Hats off to the pyrotechnics squad. (So that's where David Glass is spending our salary money...)

bobbob1313
Jeff Weaver Traded To Cardinals Breaking word is that Jeff Weaver has been dealt to the Cardinals for minor league outfielder Terry Evans plus cash considerations. Evans is a 24 year-old outfielder currently hitting .307/.369/.640 in 75 ABs for the Cards' Double A affiliate. He struggled in High Class A last year, but mastered the level in two months this season. He's been described as the "out of nowhere prospect who mashed his way out of A ball" by Viva El Birdos. Weaver is expected to join the team in Houston.

tongue-tied lightning
MILWAUKEE (AP) -- Cincinnati Reds pitcher Brian Shackelford was arrested early Thursday on suspicion of third-degree sexual assault. The 29-year-old player was arrested shortly after midnight at Miller Park, where the Reds played the Milwaukee Brewers on Wednesday night, police spokeswoman Anne E. Schwartz said. She declined to provide details on the arrest other than to say it involved a woman Monday. "It's an ongoing criminal investigation," she said. Shackelford was being held at the Milwaukee County Jail on Thursday morning, according to the sheriff's department. The Reds said they would not discuss the case because of pending legal proceedings. "We recognize the seriousness of the matter and do not condone behavior of the type alleged," the team said. The Reds left Milwaukee after the game and play in Atlanta on Thursday night. Shackelford, a left-handed reliever, pitched to one batter in the bottom of the 12th inning Wednesday, striking out Prince Fielder.
bobbob1313
I fell asleep as Anibal Sanchez gave up 5 runs in the first inning. Then I woke up as the Marlins were scoring 7 runs in the 2nd. Then I fell alseep again until the Marlins gave up 2 runs in the 7th. Then I woke up as the Marlins worst pitcher somehow didn't give up a run with players on 2nd and 3rd. My mind can't take this.
