bobbob1313
I think that's the way it should be. The prevailing mentality that everyone on the roster should play is pretty ridiculous. This isn't AYSO. ok, fine, but if he was trying to play the game well, why did he put Miguel Cabrera in as a defensive replacement in the 9th inning when he had Scott Rolen on the bench? That was just stupid. And why did he have Andruw Jones sitting on the bench when he's the best defensive outfielder in the game? It doesn't make anysense. There were a couple of plays late that both of those guys might've been able to get to that the other guys didn't.

myboyblue
http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/news/story?id=2486187 Sort of cool. I actually took my kids to a Flyers game last year and it was very nice (despite the fact that my kids weren't the least bit interested at the time). I'm wondering how managers and players will react to this. Almost seems a bit condescending.
MrRain422
Aubrey Huff was traded to the Astros today. I was sort of hoping the Tigers would get him. Now I'm just hoping that the 'Stros will put him in the outfield rather than 3B, because as a fantasy owner, I'm still holding onto hope that Morgan Ensberg is going to turn it around this year (although for the last month or so Ensberg has been riding the pine for me while Youkilis has started in his place). MrRain422
Speculation mounting on possible Bonds perjury indictmentBy DAVID KRAVETS, AP Legal Affairs Writer Wednesday, July 12, 2006 (07-12) 15:20 PDT San Francisco (AP) -- With the grand jury investigating Barry Bonds apparently nearing the end of its term, speculation has swirled around the possibility that one of the game's greatest sluggers could be indicted for perjury or other crimes. Last week, a federal judge who ordered Bonds' personal trainer jailed for refusing to testify against the San Francisco Giants star said the grand jury's probe into whether Bonds lied under oath about steroid use would end within weeks. And Bonds' attorney, Michael Rains, has said that if the outfielder was to be indicted, it would come in July. At least one Internet sportsbook has begun taking bets on whether Bonds will be indicted by July 31. Costa Rica-based Bodog.com is allowing a maximum bet of $50 on the yes-no question. Las Vegas casinos said they won't post similar wagers. A spokesman for U.S. Attorney Kevin Ryan declined to comment whether the investigation was near completion. That's no surprise, a former top lieutenant to Ryan said Wednesday, because grand jury proceedings are by necessity a closely held secret. "On the one hand, the grand jury is entitled to truthful witnesses and, on the other hand, the rules of secrecy must be observed," said Jonathan Howden, the U.S. attorney's former chief of organized crime and drug enforcement. The investigation centers not on whether Bonds used steroids
bobbob1313
According to a poll on ESPN message boards, David Wright is hands down a better player than Miguel Cabrera. Ha. Thats ludicrous. Miguel is by far a better hitter than Wright, and defensively they are even. Miguel isn't as good with the glove, but he has a canon arm. Funny how one home run in the All Star Game turns a player into the second coming of Mike Schmidt.
MrRain422
I don't think it has as much to do with the All Star game as it does with the fact that Wright plays in New York where there are way more people who may in turn vote for that unscientific poll. That being said, I don't think it's all that ludicrous to think that Wright is a better hitter than Cabrera. Cabrera makes a little more contact, Wright has a little more power. Neither of them have been around long enough to really know just how good either one of them will be, but at this point I think they're pretty comparable to each other. tongue-tied lightning
CINCINNATI (AP) -- The Cincinnati Reds overhauled their rickety bullpen Thursday, getting Gary Majewski and Bill Bray in an eight-player deal that sent outfielder Austin Kearns and shortstop Felipe Lopez to the Washington Nationals. The Reds, hanging close in the NL Central race, also acquired shortstop Royce Clayton, infielder Brendan Harris and pitcher Daryl Thompson from the last-place Nationals. Clayton most likely would replace Lopez, who made the All-Star game last year. In addition, the Reds gave up reliever Ryan Wagner, a first-round pick in 2004 who has struggled the last two seasons. Cincinnati's bullpen has dragged it down the last two months, giving up the most homers in the majors. The Reds acquired former All-Star reliever Eddie Guardado from Seattle on July 6 and came out of the All-Star break at 45-44, trailing St. Louis by four games in the division. anyone know about these guys ? MrRain422
What the hell do they want with Royce Clayton? He was never great to begin with, and what little talent he had before has diminished over the last 10 years to the point that I'm surprised he's even still in the majors. All I can tell you about this trade is that the Nationals just got better. Bill Bray- drafted in the 1st round of 2004 out of W&Mary... has a nasty fastball in the lower 90s, and 81-84mph slider(inconsistent)... he is good against lefties and righties... success from college hadnt translated above A ball yet as he was 1-0 with a 6.35 in AA last year and 1-4 with a 5.06 in AAA.... he is 1-1 with a 3.91era and 1.43 whip for the Nats in 2006 Gary Majewski- this will be his 5th major league team, strong fastball in lower 90s but can hit 96mph... 82-86mph slider is his out pitch... has a changeup, afraid to use it... and i think he may have been on team USA in the classic this year Brendan Harris- the one time answer at 3b for the Cubs he is almost 26 years old and is still making trips from AAA to the majors and vice versa... has solid gap power and can hit the occasional homerun, shoud be a good utility man, and could challenge for a starting spot Daryl Thompson- low 90s fastball, 11-5 curball, improving changeup...still just 20... could be in the rotation as early as 2008... currently in short season A ball, recovering from minor arm surgery (from another board)
