SlowBurn68
What a drag - It kinda feels like when Ian or Kurt died.
essox500
Syd was the father of alt.rock. He was a guitar innovator and a live pioneer. He was a true legend. Watch this entire clip from 1966 to see the birth of avant gard rock and alternative. You will also see John Lennon in the audience and the first real light show mixed with rock. http://www.sharpeworld.com/rip-syd-barrett

M. (hristine
It could be said that having seen the seemy underbelly of RXR success,Syd actually reacted in a quite reasonable fashion & decided that to return to his first love (painting) & live the normal, mundane existence that most non rock-star people live.To me that shows a great deal of intelligence, not insanity. "I don't care if the sun don't shine And I don't care if nothing is mine And I don't care if I'm nervous with you I'll do my loving in the Winter" ScottYes, there is much truth in that. danelectro
Can't say I'm all that sad he died, not nearly as sad as I am that he was as tortured as he was. Not nearly as sad as I am that drugs and mental illness stamped out his music career and creativity. By all accounts much of his life was pretty bad even if recent reports mention he had recently felt better. Sometimes death sets people free, IMO this is one of those times. Geez, the guy was schizophrenic. It happens to a lot of people, even non-famous people (my cousin, for example). I think it's pretty ignorant and condescending to think that someone in his situation is better off dead.
jff
I always thought his guitar playing on Piper was wicked. Totally. Hearing "Lucifer Sam" blasting over a huge pa while waiting for a band to play remains one of the most glorious music listening experiences for me.

kamera
my favorite Syd tune... When I woke up todayand you weren't there to playthen I wanted to be with youwhen you showed me your eyeswhispered love at the skiesthen I wanted to stay with youinside me I feel alone and unrealand the way you kiss will always bea very special thing to me... When I lay still at night seeingstars high and lightthen I wanted to be with youwhen the rooftops shone darkall alone (I) saw a sparkspark of love just to stay with youinside me I feel alone and unrealand the way you kiss will always bea very special thing to me... If I mention your nameturn around on a chainthen the sky opens for youwhen we grew very tallwhen I saw you so smallthen I wanted to stay with youinside me I feel alone and unrealand the way you kiss will always bea very special thing to me
partyroy
ahh, yes, "Late Night" - I was thinking of that one alot today as well... "Dark Globe" is another. Search out "Milky Way," not the Opel version, but the alternate version from the "From Underground to the Moon" bootleg, I'll YSI after Cross Country practice... partyroy
Ok, I had time before practice so I got it done. This is from the first bootleg I ever bought (I received a couple of Hendrix tapes earlier) in the fall of 1992. I didn't even have a cd player, I had a neighbor in the next dorm room at Central Michigan transfer it it to tape so I could listen to it whilst running, lifting weights, or walking to classes. 3 cds for $70.00, it set me back a bit back in those days... "From Underground to the Moon" is the bootleg name, it even has a fake Floyd track that I didn't realize was fake until I found the internet in 1996. "Give a gasp of life today, when you're in the milky way..." http://www.yousendit.com/transfer.php?acti...EC9AC4C7E35A0AA Enjoy!!Roy
