Synthesizer Patel
fwiw, don't judge the production from this poor rip, because it's got a ton of hiss on it, and it's a bit muddy sounding, the actual thing will sound looooads better Yeah, it's not so much that. I don't mind analogue hiss. It's more that .... well I don't know, I guess the instruments don't quite sound so full and punchy as they did on Love & Theft. I definately don't think the lead guitarist is anywhere near as good as Charlie Sexton and Larry Campbell were on that album, maybe it's just that - they seemed to be able to mix playing the lead and the melody at the same time which gave the whole music a bit more purpose. This is me talking still only after listening to the new album a little bit, and as you said, from a poor mp3, so what I am saying will probably change a bit once I hear the cd. solace
fuck how good is Nettie Moore??? i know what you're saying Hank, but i'm saying wait until you hear the real deal to judge the production fully. mp3s ruin a lot, even good quality rips

Am I the only one that likes Beyond The Horizon. though? I love the fact that it seems to start as though it had been playing for a few verses and then they had a key change. imsjry
Rollin' & Tumblin' is disposable? That one sounds like filler to me big time. First of all, it's a cover that has been done to death, right? Actually, that is the only one that I don't like at all.

Mr. Heartbreak
http://music.netscape.com/viewstory/2006/0...&frame=true Bob Dylan says modern music is worthless LOS ANGELES (Reuters) - Bob Dylan says modern recordings sound "atrocious," and even the songs on his new album sounded much better in the studio than on disc. "I don't know anybody who's made a record that sounds decent in the past twenty years, really," the 65-year-old rocker said in an interview with Rolling Stone magazine. Dylan, who released eight studio albums in that time, returns with his first recording in five years, "Modern Times," next Tuesday. Noting the music industry's complaints that illegal downloading means people are getting their music for free, he said, "Well, why not? It ain't worth nothing anyway." "You listen to these modern records, they're atrocious, they have sound all over them," he added. "There's no definition of nothing, no vocal, no nothing, just like ... static." Dylan said he does his best to fight technology, but it's a losing battle. "Even these songs probably sounded ten times better in the studio when we recorded 'em. CDs are small. There's no stature to it."

Actually, that is the only one that I don't like at all. It's just a traditional song that he's added a whole bunch of new lyrics to. Beyond the first two lines it is original lyrically. A song such as Masters Of War is a traditional song, Nottamun Town, with different lyrics so is that a cover? It's not my favourite either, but it's not really filler, nor a cover version. I love how all these sites are picking this up and saying Bob hates modern compositions, but if they bothered to read the article he's just talking about recording/production values. Sir Stewart
Yeah, I really don't know what Dylan is talking about in that piece. I own lots of great sounding music that came out in the past 20 years.
TheMaker
Nettie Moore, Spirit on the Water, Workingman's Blues #2, and Ain't Talkin' are all as good as L&T at its best. The unevenness of MT really confounds me. I love it, don't get me wrong, but I maintain that it's merely a very good Dylan record. It's no classic, but I enjoy it on the same level that I enjoy New Morning and Planet Waves.

MattZ
i just glanced through that article, pretty interesting. My joke above notwithstanding, is the point of the article that CD volume is too loud and so consumers dont have a choice to listen at comfortable levels? What does this have to do with CDs as opposed to LPs? I would think this is just crappy production or a frustrating move in the industry to make the music as loud as possible (sort of like injecting fat into Chicken McNuggets to make them juicier). Right? Or is this a digital phenomenon?
LouieB
I am not sure he is talking about LPs as opposed to CDs. I think he is talking about shit music and shit production. LouieB
