Are you ready for some football?

the most important play in feetball is the punt, right?

Yup. Its all about field position and waiting for the other guys to get desperate and make a mistake. It ain't always pretty, but dangit, it sure does seem to work.

Somewhere Woody Hayes is nodding approvingly (tho he still thinks they throw the ball too much). :lol

Evidently. They're 3rd in the Big Ten right now in passing yards, 9th in rushing. Interesting.

Iowa's leading receiver is a running back, and Big Ten stats have to include the likes of Illinois, Indiana and Northwestern . . .

  • 2 weeks later...

Iowa is currently down by 3 points to Indiana with about 9:50 to go in the game.

They'll probably still win, but I'm starting to reevaluate my concern about playing them this year. Maybe they aren't as good as I thought. I mean, they should be slaughtering Indiana, shouldn't they?

They have the ugliest turf, not just in the NCAA, but in human history.

You should see it in person. It actually looks nice....

Well except for the really dirty spots riddled throughout...

Wow, that FIU-UM game was something else.

Huge brawl took place between both teams. 13 players ejected overall.

I was in the UM section with my friends who go there, and I was fearing for my life, as it was pretty hostile and I was wearing an FIU shirt and hat. Luckily nothing happened.

Proof that UM's players are nothing but a bunch of thugs.

I was watching the Michigan-PSU game with some Michigan friends and one guy who went to FIU. He was pretty fired up for that brawl. Highlight of the FIU season?

Probably, unfortunately. We were playing pretty well up to that point. This quote pretty much describes it all:

"It was a great game," FIU quarterback Josh Padrick said, "until 9 minutes left in the third quarter."

I hope the UM announcer gets fired for his remarks during the fight.

""Now that's what I'm talking about, you come into our house you should get your butt kicked."

"I was about to go in the elevater and get into that thang.""

The kid who swung his helmet on UM didn't even get ejected. Larry Coker has no control over his team, and he needs to be fired. He recruits nothing but thugs and punks, and that is the reason why his program is beginning to become a joke.

Jesus...

wow...my little brother went to ND from '84-'89 & he still has a shirt from the '88 ND-Miami game that says "Catholics Vs. Convicts"

the more things change, the more they stay the same.

The guy swinging his helmet, and the guy who was stomping guys with his cleats should be done for the year. That brawl was brutal. I can't believe something like that could happen in a game between such unequal teams. What's the point?

It sure was entertaining though.

UM is nothing but a group of idiots who want nothing more than to fight. If they have to play football in order to fight somebody, so be it. The worst part is the guy who swung his helmet wasn't even ejected.

I will say that this is the last thing FIU football needed. On what should have been the most important moment in our short history, we have it marred with this. This is what most people will identify FIU football with, and while the idiots in the stands were cheering for it, anybody with any sense and who cares about the future of FIU football realizes this is exactly the kind of thing that sets a young program back a decade, and since we've only been around for 5 years, this is not very good.

Sure, it's nice to show UM that they have to respect you, but you do that between the hashes when the clock is running, not when you have a highly vulnerable field goal kicker standing around. That just makes you look like a group of immature children, not fully grown men who supposedly represent an entire school. Those who took part in this debacle don't represent me, I know that.

That announcer who blamed it all on FIU talking trash is an idiot. Every football game will have a substantial amount of trash talking. It's part of the culture of the game. I highly, highly doubt that Florida International, which has never won a 1-A game, was talking worse smack than any other team that goes into the Orange Bowl. Miami has shown in the past that the program does not stress discipline or sportsmanship. I'm certain that FIU is not without blame, but I can't imagine a scenerio in which Miami isn't at least equally, if not more responsible.

What a brutal loss for Florida. I knew it would be a tall order to go through that schedule without a loss, but that game tonight was there for the taking.

And Chris Leak's arm was moving forward. That should have been called an incomplete pass. I have no idea why referees at the college and pro level can't just get these calls correct ON THE FIELD, so it doesn't even have to come down to replay.

Eh, that Florida loss doesn't matter anyway, because the national championship should, by all rights, come down to Michigan vs. Ohio State. The winner of that game will slaughter West Virginia in the National Championship game. I sure hope its Michigan.
