Guest tandylacker
Hello. I am stuck a playing rut of some sort and was wondering if anyone knew any good songs to play on guitar... ? Not looking for 'chord songs', more along the lines of songs that are a few minutes long mostly notes with occasional chord strum... Anything really. I have been playing a Brian Setzer song called Sleepwalk, its a great song, if anyone wants my tab to it, just PM me. Its out of the Brian Setzer tab book. Anybody know of any good, difficult songs to play? Any genre... except not Megadeth or anything like that... I am looking forward to your responses. (Definitely a misuse of the smiley face icon, just wanted to try one out) Edited September 28, 2006 by tandylacker
deepseacatfish
Anybody know of any good, difficult songs to play? Any genre... except not Megadeth or anything like that... I've been playing guitar for a while, and when I'm feeling up to a challenge I try playing along to stuff like Ornette Coleman. I haven't really tabbed this stuff out, but it's definitely a lot of work, but a really rewarding work out.
MrRain422
Brian Setzer does a nice version of "Sleepwalk", but it sure isn't his song.

Somnambulist
Try playing some Band stuff. Robbie Robertson hardly ever strums a chord.
ction
I'm a big fan of playing REM's "White Tornado" (poorly). I also enjoy butchering "Pipeline", by, uh, that band that did "Pipeline".

Atticus
Hello. I am stuck a playing rut of some sort and was wondering if anyone knew any good songs to play on guitar... ? I am looking forward to your responses.(Definitely a misuse of the smiley face icon, just wanted to try one out) Are you playing electric or acoustic? I've found learning some of the early dave matthews recordings' chord progressions to be good exercise for the fingers--he has some weird ass arrangements (that's if you can tolerate DMB's music--for me it ended after "Crash," with the exception of "Spoon") that are mixes of picking and chords. Not to state the obvious but learning all of Tweedy's solo shows has been, to borrow a Ryan Adams phrase, a "bootcamp of chords" plus a lot of interesting picking. If you don't have any tweedy solo stuff, I'd be happy to send a show your way. Finally, if you want to get into alternate tunings, half-finger slides and just general guitar mayhem, check out Chris Whitley. He was just plain sick on the guitar... --Neil
Guest tandylacker
Very good suggestions. Didn't see any of them coming. I will be researching for some good songs from these people. Are you playing electric or acoustic? --Neil I like to play 'electric' songs on the acoustic guitar. I just like the sound of acoustic guitar and don't have any problem working with the heavier strings. I am having a guitar made right now that should make it a lot easier for me to play into the higher frets so that will definitely be fun.
