MattZ
I was too bummed to read anything in the sports pages or listen to the radio after the NLCS. Just decided to come back to reality and stumbled upon this from an Associated Press article.
c53x12
With all due respect, how does the AP know why the players were chanting "Jose," or if that's even what they were saying in all the bedlam of the celebration? Sounds like a bit of creative license on the part of some embittered sportswriter.

Sounds like a bit of creative license on the part of some embittered sportswriter. There was audio of it as well. They played it on the radio the day after in New York. Not that I think that it was that big of a deal, but they definitely did it.
explodo
I think that is a perfectly fine and funny thing to do. The Pujol's comments were much more offensive but then he hit that home run off Glavine and, well, that kind of settled that..
c53x12
I never realized New York sports fans were so sensitive!
MattZ
I know its mostly sour grapes on my part, but that seems like an awful lot of trash talk/poor sportsmanship when there was absolutely zero bad blood between these teams. Its not like David Wright went and stomped on some big red bird in center field a la T.O. And I think that Pujols had the last laugh with that homer. But I dont think it erased what he said after game 1. Whatever. Its stupid. Its time for the world series and Sunken Treasure tonight on DVD. I never realized New York sports fans were so sensitive! My feelings weren't hurt. I just thought it was bush league. There's a difference. (and I dont represent all New York sports fans)

MattZ
hey, boston fans wanted to put mariano's number on a red sox shirt and he thought it was pretty funny. He even received a standing ovation (for which he laughed and tipped his cap and waved) during the ring ceremony game (which was against the yankees) the following season. Yeah, and there it was fans poking fun at a player. I dont know if you are raising a completely different point or making an analogy. But my issue (which really was more surprise than anything) was that the Cardinals players were showing bad sportsmanship.

My hatred for the Cardinals is now totally reawakened and is at 1987 levels.

MattZ
Hey, man... I will remember this the next time I think that I am being too hard on you in this chain. Thats the first back page I have seen. You may have won this battle, but oh yes, I shall return.
bjorn_skurj
Chris is a nice kid, I am told, but in baseball threads, he is our enemy.
bobbob1313
I've got plenty more back pages where that came from, Mets fans. Next season should be fun. I'm not thinking we'll challenge for the division crown just yet, but I have no problem being a wild card. It's worked out pretty well for us in the past.

I reserve the right to change that assessment after he is linked in some way to steroids or HGH.

bobbob1313
I've always been amazed by Chris Carpenter because he never really blows you away with his stuff, but he's such an effective pitcher.
