mpolak21
What an incredible set, I'll post a review when I have the time, but for now the setlist. I know I have everything they played but my order might be a little off in the middle. 1. The Late Greats2. A Shot in The Arm3. Impossible Germany4. IATTBYH (on which Pat Sansone played his keyboards with maracas)5. War on War6. Handshake Drugs7. Jesus, etc.8. Walken (with a new guitar intro, sort of sounds like the solo version)9. Airline To Heaven10. Theologians 11. I'm The Man Who Loves You12. Misunderstood (there were a lot of nothings)13. Forget The Flowers14. Hummingbird Encore:15. Heavy Metal Drummer16. New Song (I don't know what we're calling it yet, but it's the same one that was played on the first two tour dates. Jeff said it's from the new album, What I Hate About Rock and Roll and What I like About it.)17. Kingpin ("we've been doing this for about two years, and we're a little sick of it") The crowd was really into it. I am pretty sure everyone within 40 feet of the stage knew everyword to every song (I was the only one that knew the new stuff though). Walken went over very well, people were yelling "that's a keeper, Jeff" around me. The new song, first off Glenn has a really amazing drum solo in it. Nels cuts loose too. The song that comes to mind for me to compare it to is We've Been Had. It's another great Tweedy song about rock and roll. It also seemed to go over very well. Kingpin as a closer was amazing. The band was on fire tonight and I really hope I can get down to Morgantown to see them again in two weeks. --Mike Edited October 8, 2006 by mpolak21

kamera26
they certainly played to the Tall Stacks theme, more of a alt-country feel to the set. Edited October 8, 2006 by kamera26
rogo2000
they certainly played to the Tall Stacks theme, more of a alt-country feel to the set. Agreed, but how do you play a Riverboat festival without playing Casino Queen????? Great show, though. Absolutely love the new song. It rocks in a way the band hasn't rocked on disc in years. wheelco
What an incredible set, I'll post a review when I have the time, but for now the setlist.you're a good man and a true fan - I've enjoyed and respected your posts here, so no disrespect intended I did not like the setlist at all, personally, and felt empty with the encores can't stand the revamped Kingpin (thought the same the 2 other times I heard it) and actively disliked the new song right before it handshake Drugs and IATTBYH were also a collective 13 minutes of my life I'll never get back sorry, Dave they certainly played to the Tall Stacks theme, more of a alt-country feel to the set.I actually didn't think there was at all, despite Airline & Flowers on the list that definitely was not the "feel" of the show -- the "feel" was "noise"

The noise outros of both of those songs were a little longer then they've played them in the past and the end of Handshake was a little on the intense side. But, I haven't seen them since the middle of 2004 (one of the new lineups first shows) so seeing them now as tight as they are was pretty incredible for me. Though they have played a lot of these songs quite a bit, they do seem to still be exploring with them a little bit and I guess they felt that the festival setting wasn't the right place to pull out rarer stuff. I have to admit I was pulling for Kingpin the entire time, I guess I am a sucker for the scream along, even though my voice was a little hoarse after screaming every nothing along with Jeff at the end of Misunderstood. I turned to my brother after the new song and said "for the love of God, Kingpin!" and then they went into it. All and all it was a pretty exciting night for me, and I really enjoyed them. --Mike

bobbob1313
What I Hate About Rock and Roll and What I like About it. If that is really the title of the new album I will be so unspeakably happy.
acuff-rose
Jeff is definately a funny dude (what I hate about r'n' r' and what I like about it). It amazes me how much material he keeps cranking out. I keep expecting the quality of what he does to fall off and then he comes out with something that's unexpected. I like the way he keeps you guessing. I guess that's what I dig about Wilco so much, you never know what your going get as far as style or emotion.
bedbug
My 6th time seeing Wilco, and hands down my favorite. The energy was totally there. Sound was incredible (for an outdoor venue). I thought the mix of songs was great. Performance was spot on. (I was the only one that knew the new stuff though). Not true. I was singing Impossible Germany. I have to admit though, I wasn't prepared for the greatness of the live Impossible Germany experience. Even Walken, I wasn't wild about it when I first heard it, but like Kingpin, it's a great concert song. Kingpin ... until Saturday I was lukewarm about it. Especially with the jam ... they could've easily swapped it for two "emotional" songs, but the breakdown part - Jeff, Nels and Glenn sound like one instrument. It's magical. wheelco
I listened to the BT Kingpin in the car this morning and thought, "Man, that used to be a pretty good song".

I was the only one in my section that knew the new songs . Yeah Impossible Germany was excellent, one of the many highlights of the night, Nels Cline was certainly essential for that performance. I really hope someone taped this, so I can get a copy of this show. --Mike
mpolak21
I listened to the BT Kingpin in the car this morning and thought, "Man, that used to be a pretty good song". What don't you like about it now? Too loud, too much noise, not a fan of the scream along part? I'd like them to bring the acoustic guitar part back, and I'm the Man Who Loves You is screaming for Pat to get off the porno keyboards and play the acoustic. Anyway the BT version does have a bit of a groove that's kind of lost in the shuffle, but I love that song everyway they play it. Well I am not always hanging on every note of the 10+ minute jams during the Bennett era, when they'd do it live. --Mike

It was a little slower, and it was before the call and response ending. --Mike
mizary
here are some pics from the show... zach5277
Damn good show, everything just sounded so tight. Did anyone else catch Pat's Rick Wakeman-action during Kingpin?
