mountain bed
I'm still amazed that this guy was the best the Dems could come up with in '04.If I'm the DNC Chairman,I'd lock the guy up for at least the next 7 days...no campaigning!

OOO
isn't it well documented that recruiters go after low-income people who haven't gotten a shot at going to college?

mountain bed
Absolutely, and especially in areas where living wage jobs are nearly non-existent.This is nothing new at all.In the town I live in,the auto industry really began to fall apart right around the time I graduated High School (1981).All the subsidiary businesses related to our largest employer went belly up and the town just died. At the same time, the Reagan Revolution (with it's emphasis on a stronger Cold War defense & 'let's make America great again' attitude) was just taking hold. The recruiters swarmed the area like vultures & as a result,a huge number of my classmates joined the service.Sadly, the economy has never truly recovered (the only jobs to be had are in the fast-food/service industry, sound familiar?),and the recruiters are still hanging out all the time at the H.S.,bugging the shit out of me on the phone (regarding my 18 year-old son),etc... Sorry for the rant. John Smith
Kerry did have a poor choice of words, but anyone who takes even a moment to read or hear what he had to say, in its proper context KNOWS that he was referring to Bush, not our troops. It is so patently obvious that this should be a non-issue other than discussing how he insulted the president. But no, the White House and the pundit have turned it into something much more sinister. Spawn's dad
word. it would be nice if we could look at this as a sign of how utterly lost the democratic party is and use it as an impetus for change. that Kerry has defenderss is clearly indicative that our politcial system is fucked up beyond repair. Sweet Papa Crimbo
I mean, Jesus!  He should have taken the example from Michal Dukakis, Walter Mondale and Bob Dole: Lose the elecetion and disappear. Kerry did have a poor choice of words, but anyone who takes even a moment to read or hear what he had to say, in its proper context KNOWS that he was referring to Bush, not our troops. Sweet Papa Crimbo
isn't it well documented that recruiters go after low-income people who haven't gotten a shot at going to college?  Which is one of the problems with an all volunteer army. Always has been and always will be. The only alternative to this is a reinstatement of the Draft. Anybody here for that? Didn't think so. And it would eventually end up the same what with deferments. From my (somewhat limited) conversations on the matter, the Military wants nothing to do with a conscript army. With the volunteer force, at least the recruit has a desire to be there. John Smith
Calling our enlisted soldiers ignorant (by implying that stupid people end up in Iraq) is a little more than an insult to the President. Obvious misrepresenting spin... word. it would be nice if we could look at this as a sign of how utterly lost the democratic party is and use it as an impetus for change. that Kerry has defenderss is clearly indicative that our politcial system is fucked up beyond repair. More sad spin... He should have taken the example from Michal Dukakis, Walter Mondale and Bob Dole: Lose the elecetion and disappear.Oh please. He fucked up. Deal with it. He did fuck up with his choice of words, but anyone who floowed what he said knows exactly who he was referring to. It is patently obvious that this is the sort of spinning shot that needs to end in Washington before our country begins the recovery process from the first six years of the Bush disaster. No amount of spin can polish this turd. They know how to win elections, but they have no clue as to how to govern. Hers the hint...you win elections by working from the outside in...you energize your fiercely loyal followers, then you pick apart the middle issue by issue brining in voter blocks. After you win you must govern from the middle, this administration has chosen to gevern from the fringes, annd they have fucked up royally. Twistng what Kerry said is simply them campaigning. As is their constant equivocation of Al Queda and the Democratic Party.

embiggen
why is he an asshole? I understand what he's saying and he has a point. Republicans are spinning this to their advantage. but I agree that Kerry needs to keep his mouth shut and not contribute to another loss for the democrats. Bill O'Reilly said that Kerry was talking about the President, not the troops last night.  surprising coming from him. but Kerry was talking about the president. If you live there and would like to call me a fucking asshole to my face PM me and I'll let you know where I am staying. Beyonnd that why not stick to your talking points and keep the lies flowing. Wait, personal insult is the RNC way, it is much easier than actual discussion.
caliber66
Obvious misrepresenting spin... What Gary said. However, upon further reading on the story, I'm willing to consider that he meant to refer to Bush. His choice of words was extremely unfortunate, however, and I can see how any reasonable person might assume he was referring to soldiers. After all, Bush isn't stuck anywhere but Washington (or his ranch); the military are the ones who are stuck in Iraq. Whatever you want to call me is fine with me. I have no clue as to where you live, I live in the middle of nowhere. But I will be in Chicago Sunday through Tuesday.
