Beltmann
We watched The Departed tonight. Pretty good movie, and everyone will be happy to note that I thought Leonardo DiCaprio's performance was excellent. You can expect your first issue of Tiger Beat in 6-8 weeks.

kathyp
Edgeplay: A Film About the Runaways Pretty interesting stuff, though I'm not a huge Runaways fan (they were a bit too metal for my taste, at least in their later years, though I do like Joan Jett, who did not participate in the doc). Lita Ford was as delightfully clueless as ever.
WildMercurySound
been off work for a couple of weeks now so I've watched a fair few films, and the more I watch, the hungrier I get for more. Yesterday my brother decided we should watch The Island, which was so terrible I walked out halfway... from my own living room. Next up was The Prestige which I loved; I could go on and on about why, but I'm tired and I already put it far more eloquently in the pub earlier than I could now. I've just finished watching Traffic. I've had this on DVD for a while and not watched it... big mistake because it's hard-hitting, thought-provoking and disturbing. And not just because Eric Foreman from That '70s Show snorts coke in it. As for the rest of the week, I think I'll be seeing Babel on Friday and Annie Hall on the big screen as part of my friend's film club at the local cinema. As if I haven't seen it enough... Yeah, it doesn't end up getting any better.

Spawn's dad
(I liked his earlier Amores Perros a lot more. Did you see that one?) Amores Perros was way better than Babel. On the gershon two-tiered rating scale it was good. Babel, not so much. The whole take multiple seemingly random story lines and tie them together in the last five minutes of the film genre is pretty played out. Brad Pitt is dreamy, but Gael Garc
ction
I watched about 45 minutes of Saw III last night, which, as expected, was a huge stinking pile of awful.

And in Inarritu's case, each new outing seems more intricate than the last but, paradoxically, suffers from the law of diminishing returns. At this point I'd like to see him tackle something a little more straightforward. Or maybe I'd like to see him go completely abstract--his contribution to the omnibus film 11'09"01 September 11 is easily my favorite segment. For those who haven't seen it, the movie is a collection of 11 short films about the attack on the Twin Towers, made by filmmakers from around the globe. Some deal directly with the event, others are set in other places around the world.

Analogman
It followed Graysmith's book - pretty good acting. There were lot's of cameos in it - such as Candy Clark.

Beltmann
Yeah, I saw Zodiac last weekend and thought it was pretty great.Good to hear; we're usually on the same page. I'm excited to see it, but it's unlikely I will see it any time soon... I've taken a vow of cinema chastity until my grad thesis is complete. I barely have time to catch something on DVD these days, and even then it's usually broken up over two or three late nights when I'm too beat to write. In fact, writing is what I'm supposed to be doing right now, so thanks for distracting me, pal.
