MattZ
Ugh. RIP Ed. You will be missed. As an aside, I thought his interview with Dylan on 60 Minutes when Chronicles came out was awesome.
Dick Ctionary
He was one of a kind. Really added some class to his medium, was always prepared, and showed respect to the topics he covered. Those are some big shoes to fill. You will be missed.

bjorn_skurj
A fantastic reporter who showed again and again what freedom of the press is all about. He will be missed.
embiggen
I was listening to some Miles Davis and Charles Mingus on the train, and I don't even know if he liked those artists but he loved jazz, but I thought of him as I listened. Lena Horne talked him into piercing his ear and he had an historic interview with her and many, many others.

Atticus
he was one of the last television journalists who didn't annoy the piss out of me, and always seemed to teach me something whether I gave a rat's ass about the subject or not. thanks for all you did. parrish_10
he will be missed. the man had a sense of style in mass media that really had no rival. the stories on larry king this week from the 60 minutes correspondents brought tears to my eyes. he was one of the few people in the media that i truly admired. ansheld
Wow. Excellent piece on Ed tonight. What a neat man. I didn't know much about him, but the 60 Minutes retrospective last night was quite good. Interesting to see how integrated he was in the New Orleans music community and how close he was with Jimmy Buffett. Plus, that footage of him getting shot in the arm in Vietnam... man, that kind of journalism is just nuts.
Atticus
I thought Andy Rooney's piece was surprisingly poignant

Lammycat
I got a big laugh when they talked about Ed letting Hunter shave his head with a straight razor.I think I'd have been less scared in Vietnam Considering some of the bat shit crazy things HST reportedly had done, I was kind of thinking I'd have been somewhat okay with him shaving my head when watching the show Sunday night. Which recalls the story of when HST was running for sherriff in Aspen in the early 70s and shaved his head completely bald so he could, in part, refer to his conservative and crew-cutted opponent as a long-haired freak.
