Oil Can Boyd
I saw that; it is weird. Do you think he was trying to be funny and outrageous (a la Borat or Andy Kaufman) or do you think he just lost it?
MrRain422
I heard that he did it because he's an alcoholic and was molested by a priest as a kid.

Guest tandylacker
I like to listen to alot of stand up and I have heard a couple stories about how big a dick Michael Richards is, especially when he's doing his stand up. Not terribly surprising... but he did give quite an apology on David Letterman while Jerry Seinfeld was a guest. Seinfeld really stood up for him and backed his apology.... But anyhoo, makes for a good clip!

Duck-Billed Catechist
What was it they said about Mel Gibson? You can't pour alcohol on a turnip and make it say anti-semitic things. MrRain422
It's remotely possible that he thought he was channeling Lenny Bruce or something. But I think he's probably just a racist asshole.
napoleon
it pisses me off how much everyone is making such a big deal out of this. is this not america? freedom of speech? are there not troops dying tonight in iraq so we can be able to say whatever the fuck we want? do i think its right for him to be saying that? no i don't. but if thats what he wants to say it then that's fine with me. we shouldn't need every news channel in america showing this 24/7. that's pathetic. people and the news should be talking about things going on in this world and how we can make the world a better place. not how some pissed off celebrity said a word thats deemed offensive. and let me say, i say "the n word" all the time and one of my best friends is black. people quit assuming just because you say a word it means you hate an entire race. Duck-Billed Catechist
What he said was far worse than just using the n-word. Free speech goes both ways. Someone can act like an idiot, and (most of) the rest of the country can call a spade a spade. Also, where was the funny?

Someone can act like an idiot, and (most of) the rest of the country can call a spade a spade. but what i was saying though was he should be able to say whatever he wants without us having to hear about it everytime we change the channel. its messed up we hear more about celebrity activities than stuff that really matters to us in our daily lives. i'm sorry, i'm not trying to start a war. haha, its just media really pisses me off. tugmoose
Here's the Letterman segment. I know it's not his best moment, but the guy seems to ramble a bit - little wonder the audience was yackin'.
napoleon
Any white person who used the n-word and claims they're not a racist is suffering from severe self-delusion at best. You need help, man. that is such an ignorant statement to make. there is a big difference between saying "screw you nigger" and "whats up my nigga". thats like saying everytime someone says god that its in vain. its all about the context. just because you say a word, doesn't mean you hate an entire race. free speech... finespouting racist remarks at a paying audience? different story altogether, and shouldn't be a surprise that it's gotten the press it has. and i'm not going to judge your character btnapoleon, but you would NOT get away with using the N word around me if we were friends, trust me. not trying to be a smartellic, but have you ever seen any of carlos mencias standup? they showed one uncut a couple of weeks ago on comedy central and every other word out of his mouth was "the n word". and i'm not saying its shocking that its gotten the press it is, i'm just saying its messed up that its all i've heard about all day. and thats completely understandable, if one of my friends was pissed off by it and asked me to quit saying it i would. but they don't have a problem with it because they understand its just a joke and that it doesn't mean i hate all african-americans. i call people crackers all the time too, does that mean i hate white people?
Guest tandylacker
i call people crackers all the time too, does that mean i hate white people? yes, yes it does. ummm... the 'n-word' is a tough topic to argue. since I am more or less disliked on this message board, I will support you on this one btnapoleon. there's a ridiculous reverse racism when it comes to the 'n-word' and the word cracker. i guess it is because the united states treated black people like garbage starting with slavery leading up to the 1960's where we, and I know we don't need a history lesson on this, decided to keep them separate from us socially because we suspected they were dirty monkeys. using words like the 'n-word' to keep them down... so yeah, it was just a word we used to degrade them for however many years while cracker has only been a word to pretend like we're being degraded.... wait, i think i just joined the other side of the argument. 'n-word' is a no go publicly, but i have probably used it to make 'funny' about 5,000 times to very close friends. certainly not in front of black people though. And "one of my best friends is black" is no excuse. I agree with you, though, that we shouldn't have to hear about this on every channel, etc.
