Vacant Horizon
Old Ways I, Time Fades Away II, Human Highway (if it was even finished), and possibly the legendary Brigg's version of Tonight's the Night? yeah, old ways I is what i am really looking forward to. depression blues on lucky thirteen is so good. human highway would be cool as well. i'm wondering if there's some stuff we don't know about. I don't think anyone knew about Toast until it was announced that it was being prepped for release. And over 40+ years, who knows what else hasn't been released. CortezTheKiller
It's been stated before, but it bears repeating, the official release of Old Ways is fucking horrible. I'll defer to a lyric from the latest "lazy" offering from Jay Farrar to describe it.... "so much promise with so much pain."
Analogman
I've never heard it, but I have always heard it was pretty bad. Isn't there a chapter or at least some talk of Toast in the Shakey book?

"so much promise with so much pain." using jay to critique neil...very interesting...i like it. old ways had potential, it's just so cheesed up. i do love the song My Boy as i have two sons. if i had to pick one, Everybody's rockin is the worst neil album. nothing redeemable at all. unlistenable. all the other ones i can find something to listen to...even landing on water. that one is so bad it's utterly compelling. I have not read the book in a couple of years.
Analogman
The Making of The Neil Young Archives
Analogman
Yet another informative post from Thrasher's Wheat. Just a heads up that Archives Guy has some info in comments on yesterday's Fresh NYA BD Live Download which is Cinnamon Girl from Fillmore, March 7, 1970. Also, (and hopefully we're not too off the ranch on this) there is a website devoted to unearthing the mysteries Easter Eggs, virtual bongs, and hidden tracks of the Neil Young Archives put together by long, long time rustie Lone Red Rider. Wild Frank
I'm coming back to eat humble pie. I have finally sucumbed and, in a moment of financial madness, picked up the DVD version of the Archives. I love it. I feel that I've been ripped off but..... I still love. I slated this project a couple of months ago for being sloppy and ill-conceived (which it is to a degree) but having sat with the dvds for a week or so the music wins through. There is not many revelations on the set but I'm loving the versions of 'Journey Through The Past' and 'Dance, Dance, Dance'. There is also a lovely live version of 'See the sky about to rain'. I also got a voucher which enabled me to download the audio for the i-pod, but it is appreciated best in a comfy sofa with a bottle of wine. Volume II should be even better. At the end of the day Neil is Neil and he will never do things in the most logical way. Just enjoy the ride.
Wild Frank
Over on Thrashers Wheat today they are showing a clip of the clasic 'Rockin' In the Free World' from Saturday Night Live. It was 20 years ago. Makes me feel old, I was just getting into Neil at the time. It's a legendary performance from Neil. Totally ripped it up on stage.
