Mystik Spiral
i love this album.
parisisstale
I think I do too, and I've only spent about twenty minutes with it.
Mystik Spiral
ah, it took me a good 6-7 listens to enjoy it. i hated "five easy pieces" the first time i heard it... i think it's now my favorite track. there's not a song on there that i don't just love though. rghammo
Only two times through for me but I think I'm going to like this as well. I really like the first track which is causing such a stir. Nothing could be worse than their last first track. I almost never got into the last album because of it.
Mystik Spiral
i like both first tracks... it is certainly creating an uproar on oink. good times.
brianjeremy
I Finally got my email from insound. I am downloading it now. I gave it a spin on myspace last night. I don't think it's near as good as their last one. Way too murky in areas. I keep trying to do the "if they just cleaned this or that song up, it would be a better" record routine. I will give it time though.
nettles
I think it's awesome what they accomplished independently with that last record, but I can't get into this band even a little, just try to listen to the myspace stream, couldn't get past the first tune. TheMaker
Quantum leap! It's a little more uneven than CYHSY, but the highs are so much higher that it isn't even a fair contest. Anybody else can't stop walking around singing "Underwater (You and Me)?"
Beltmann
Quantum leap! It's a little more uneven than CYHSY, but the highs are so much higher that it isn't even a fair contest.Sounds good. I still haven't listened. I pre-ordered, and don't want to spoil it...
bobbob1313
I'd say the best song is the first one. Boy, what a track.
tongue-tied
is it bad that my gut reaction to "five easy pieces" was "U2 gone retarded"? and/or that i liked it?
parisisstale
I'd say the best song is the first one. Boy, what a track. Nice call. I'd never really listened to them before, but this tune sucked me in right away.
explodo
I'm very surprised by the favorable accounts in this thread. I'd heard very little good about the record and I hated (too weak of a word, really) it on first listen but I think I'll have to go back and listen again.
bobbob1313
Oh wow, listening to the leak I downloaded from Albumbase.com has a different version of the first song than the one on myspace, and the one I downloaded is alot better. Not even close, really... I don't like how distant the vocals sound on the official one.
nalafej
I like how you can "download some loud thunder for free" and then you follow the link and you have to pre-order their album. Lame.
imsjry
I like how you can "download some loud thunder for free" and then you follow the link and you have to pre-order their album. Lame. Lame that they actually want to make a living or lame that the path is mismarked? I think they used to give it away when it first came out..
nalafej
It's misleading.
brianjeremy
Yeah, I'm really starting to dig this album more and more. The first track, although the vocals come across as quite jarring at first, it's a stellar track. I am quoted as saying that their first album made me want to go out and "shoot a bitch." I can see myself feeling this way for the album in the future. I just hate having to "get into" an album because the actual chances of success are very low. This one seems to be one of the few that actually make it in my book.

Please explain this comment because "getting into" new albums is one of the few things that gets me out of bed in the morning....
brianjeremy
Please explain this comment because "getting into" new albums is one of the few things that gets me out of bed in the morning.... You know what gets me out of the bed in the morning? The sudden urge to pee and midget pornography (you should see the little fuckers go). Perhaps, I should have said "spending too much time getting into new albums." In simple terms (more questions than answers here) - Take a band whose first album blew you away immediately. Next, add difficult "next" album to equation. Then take ADHD add it to the mix. How many times should you listen to an album in order to get it? Once? Ten time? A hundred? At some point the "I will eventually get it" -thing gets old. Really, how long does a record have? How many chances? There are a ton of records that I have not heard in this life and will most likely never hear. Should I continue to force feed this album on my listening habits just so I could have that small chance of revelation? My answer is that sometimes, it just isn't worth it. For example - a ghost is born. On paper, this should be a great album by a band that I am in love with. However, I found the album difficult and hard to get into. It was the first Wilco record that I didn't love on te first listen. Not that it was a challenge to me, YHF did that, it just wasn't that interesting to me. It took me a couple of months to even tolerate it. It wasn't until after seeing them play the record live that I came to appreciate it. With CYHSY's new one, I am into it now. It was jarring at first because it's so different than their first record.
tongue-tied
the new stuff doesn't surprise me at all, which is a little disappointing, but it sounds about as catchy as the first one.
