So Long
Jeff's singing has gotten so much better in the last 12 years. I just heard the original recording of Radio King, and I prefer the Sunken Treasure version so much more... P.S...what the hell is up with Pecan Pie?

So Long
lyrically...it's rather...how should we say...simple?
aricandover
so what. it's a damn fine song.
MrRain422
I think that's probably why it ended up on a Golden Smog album instead of as a Wilco song. It's a fun enough tune though.
Nonlinear Nonfiction
I think it is one of the most poetic representations of hunger that I have ever heard anyone convey musically. Love can solve anything but a man's apetite.
socbret
I wouldn't say it's simple at all. I completly agree with Nonlinear. Sometimes it's song's like these that I get the most out of. They are definitly the most fun for me to sit down and play.

welch79
pecan pie is about sexual hunger to me in my mind. give it another listen. there's more there than i want some pie... it's among my favorite songs.
Guest Speed Racer
to each their own Love is great, in a complicated way (I'm Always in Love), sometimes you're in love and fuck up ('Reservations), sometimes you're in love and fucked up (IATTBYH)... Sometimes everything is thankfully simple, and all you want is her and a piece of pecan pie.

Darkhorse
in one of the lounge ax shows from back in the day, the first performance of it if I understand correctly, after a flase start Jeff explains he wrote it ont he way from blockbuster to the venue. and yes sometimes its as simple as you a dollup of dreamwhip and a piece of pecan pie. quarter23cd
pecan pie is about sexual hunger to me in my mind.Agreed. Any ideas about the metaphorical importance behind Screen Door?
socbret
Agreed. Any ideas about the metaphorical importance behind Screen Door? I think screen door is really nothing more than what it's like to live in a poor small town and be at the age (18-22ish) when you only have a certain amount of responsibilities, especially if your in school. It sets the precedent for all of his later ones. Check it oot.
