Neil Young DVD 1966-1975

I wonder what on earth this actually is. Do you actually think there will be music on it, or just talking heads and that kind of stuff?

This documentary film reviews the music and career of one of rocks true giants during his formative and most creative years. It features obscure footage, rare interviews and rarely seen photographs of and with Neil Young. Throughout the film, live and studio recordings of Young classics are reappraised by a panel of contributors. Also included are reviews, comments, criticism and insights from John Einarson (Young's biography author), Robert Christgau (Village Voice), Barney Hoskins (author, critic), Nigel Williamson (Uncut), Dave Zimmer (ex-editor of BAM magazine), Bruce Tergesen (house engineer on Mr. Soul), Johnny Rogan (CSNY biographer)and many others.

there are a bunch of these sort of things out there - Kiss, Dylan, Pink Floyd, etc.

Since it's a documentary, I expect mostly talking. Here's the description of the DVD from Amazon at the above link. (A-Man beat me to it!)

For the music, I have his "Heart of Gold" DVD :wub

Yeah, that's kind of what I thought. I've got Rust Never Sleeps and Heart Of Gold, so I don't think I'll bother with this.

I don't mind talking heads too much, but it kind of depends on what they are talking about - watching old people talking about someone elses life of 40 years ago through the unflattering lense of a digital camera has a limited shelf life for me, but if they talk about things more recent it seems to be ok. Don't ask me why.

I won't ask you why, but I'll venture a guess that it's not an era you lived through so it doesn't offer up any nostalgia for you. Unlike me. I like seeing old footage of that era because I lived through it. :blush Well, that's just my hunch. Hank, I don't know how old you are, so of course it's just a guess. I'll try to remember (*rolls eyes at self) to come back and let you know yea or nay.

Yeah, I didn't live through it at all. I love seeing the old footage - that's the bit that interests me, it's the modern day looks back at that stuff that I'm not so keen on. It's more to do with the fact that I just kind of end up saying to myself - "just play the footage" rather than talk about it, cos the music speaks for itself.

Oh, and my name isn't actually Hank (that was just a silly name I came up with - Big-Bank Hank was a member of the sugarhill gang) - it's Richard, but you can call me Hank if you want. I like it. I just thought I'd better set you straight.

You can find them in the YouTube thread - or I can post them here if you want.

Oh, no. That's okay. I'll go look through that thread. Thanks though! Good indoor project for me tonight, what with it being all snow-stormy here in NE Indiana. :hmm
