Recommended Posts

alright fuckers...

http://www.myspace.com/jasonisbellmusic

check out the full band version of Dress Blues (the solo version is one of the most heartwrenching songs i've ever heard, if you know the story surrounding the song), is that Shonna on backup on this one? sounds gorgeous...

and the kick ass rocker Try... haven't listened to Grown yet, but these are way more fleshed out and full compared to those previously early demos...

this record is going to kick ass...

sure hope this beyotch finally comes out when it's scheduled to

Yes, very pumped about this one. I like the studio version of "Dress Blues". To be honest, the songs that were on his 'unofficial' myspace page a few weeks back were even better than these. Looking forward to seeing Jason next week.

i thought those other demos were a bit unpolished and a bit too Eagles-ish... they weren't bad, but nothing out of those previous 3 touches Try (and obvs Dress Blues, easily one of the best songs he'll ever pen)

On first listen, this sounds super generic to me. Like Tom Cochrane "Life is a Highway" generic. What's the deal?

uhm... overexaggerate much?

that guitar tone on Try alone sets it apart from that song... and if you aren't moved by Dress Blues, you have no soul in your body

the third song, Grown isn't as great as the other two, but still... i really hope you're referring to that song with that comment...

It's... dare I say it... ok... not sure I'd say it was "super" generic, but it doesn't sound anything different even though the songwriting is good, the song obviously means something, just a little let down with it's delivery...

That's a little better. It's certainly touching lyrically, but I'm still not that into it. I wasn't into the Isbell songs on the last Truckers album either, though. I still think his best songs were on Decoration Day and the Dirty South.

the entire last record (while still some killer songs) wasn't really all THAT great anyhow... definitely their weakest of the last 4

i loved Daylight myself, that song coulda got some decent airplay if they had pushed it

It works a heck of a lot better stripped back like that... now THAT'S powerful, it gets a bit waterdown on the myspace track.

I agree that the solo version of Dress Blues is way better than the band version. (Now part of the reason for that is that it was the first version I heard of the song...and the one that I listened to nonstop for months.)

I'm still looking forward the new album. He's written some stellar songs for DBT. It's almost unfair that DBT has three outstanding songwriters.

Agreed. Very generic sounding. I guess it just shows how great Cooley and Patterson are. I think they bring the edge to the Truckers that's missing from these new Isbell tracks.

I'm a *huge* DBT fan(and especially Isbells DBT songs), but based on these Myspace tracks I probably won't be buying the album.

did you actually expect a solo record by one of the DBT members to rock as hard?

this stuff is certainly more interesting and uptempo than Patterson's & Cooleys solo stuff imo...

i liked DBT prior to Isbell joining, but they weren't a great band until after he joined. i prefer his vocals and guitar playing to Patterson & Cooley as well, w/ Cooley a close second. Patterson's high pitched whine often bugs me, even though he's definitely a super strong songwriter.

Is that supposed to validate your opinion?

Y'ALL:

It's with a wide range of emotions and feelings that I'm announcing that we have parted ways with Jason.

The split, which I consider extremely amicable is the result of a period of personal and artistic growth from all sides which has left us with differing dreams and goals.

Wow! I just saw this at the dbt site. Man, this sucks. :dontgetit

WOW... I figured it was just an amount of time before they split but I didn't think it would be this soon. That sucks. I was hoping to get a few more albums out of the deal. Tough for 3 songwriters to share a band though. You never see that last too long.

I rcd this email today.

Guys, I am terriblyh sad and yet infinetly hopeful to post this from

Patterson. You guys get it first - his orders.

Y'ALL:

It's with a wide range of emotions and feelings that I'm announcing

that we have parted ways with Jason.

The split, which I consider extremely amicable is the result of a

period of personal and artistic growth from all sides which has left us

with differing dreams and goals.

Jason joined our band, mid-tour, in the fall of 2001, shortly after the

release of our 4th album (Southern Rock Opera). His impact on the band

was immediate and profound, bringing an awe-inspiring combination of

vocal range, guitar dexterity, and amazing songwriting and leading us

into an era of creativity that has resulted in three albums that I will

be proud of for as long as I live.

Life in a band is always a delicate balancing act of personal and

musical chemistries. Having been in bands for most of my life, I still

marvel that any band stays together for longer than a year. Especially

if the band in question spends anywhere from 150-220 days a year on the

road, as our band has done since 1998. That said, I have also likened

this band to a family. A big, messy, sometimes dysfunctional one, but a

family full of love all the same. It is in this spirit that I plan on

Jason continuing to be a part of our lives wherever our roads and

dreams take us in the immediate future.

Jason is about to embark on a tour (including a leg of dates with Son

Volt) with his stellar band and will be releasing (finally) his amazing

solo album "Sirens of the Ditch" . We

all are wishing him nothing but the absolute best on every step that

plays before him.

Cooley and I will have played together for 22 years this summer and DBT

is about to begin it's 12th year of existence on the very day that we

will be going into the studio to begin recording our 8th album. Cooley

recently sent me a demo of five new songs and yesterday I demoed nine

new ones for consideration. In addition to Shonna and Brad (who is

coming up on ten years in the band) John Neff will be playing with us

full time, playing both guitar and pedal steel. John was a founding

member of the band in 96 and has already played on four of our albums

and has been on the road with us, full time for going on two years.

It is my sincere and and adamant hope that everyone will support all of

us, and by that I mean our band and Jason's, as we deal with this

transition. Jason's tenure in this band has been one of the greatest

things that has ever happened to me on a personal and musical level and

our love for him and his music is in no way changed or endangered by

our collective decision to move into different directions.

In addition to the upcoming THE DIRT UNDERNEATH tour and the recording

of our next album, we will also be playing some special ROCK SHOW dates

this summer and hope to do another leg or two of THE DIRT UNDERNEATH in

the fall.

As always, the bond that we have with each other, as well as with the

folks that come to our shows and listen to our records has always been

one of the things that has set this band apart. We plan to continue on

in that tradition and spirit and hope you will come with us as we

attempt to tell another tale and Rock the nights away a little while

longer.

Sincerely Yours,

Patterson Hood
