willywoody
so i put together a playlist today to fill one cdr and to try and include bands and songs that describe my music affections over my slightly 40 plus years. i began with one of my first albums and tried to include up to my most recent interest. i also kept the list to albums i was into around the time of their release and tried to avoid too many of the "hits" on some of the more popular titles. so here 'tis: Jet Paul McCartney & Wings Band On The Run Do Ya Electric Light Orchestra afterglow Police On My Back The Clash Sandinista! Louie Louie The Pretenders Pretenders IIChange Of Heart Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers Looking For Lewis And Clark The Long Ryders Asking Me Lies The Replacements Don't Tell A SoulWay Down Now World Party Goodbye JumboDaddy Was A Preacher But Mama Was A Go-Go Girl Southern Culture On The SkidsUnderground Ben Folds Ben Folds Five Live Free Son Volt Jay Farrar Trace Old School Bran Van 3000 Glee A Song For You Whiskeytown Return Of The Grievous Angel: A Tribute to Gram ParsonsI'm Always In Love Wilco Summer Teeth Up With People Lambchop Nixon Life Goes Off Jim O'Rourke Insignificance Heatherwood Deerhunter Cryptograms

It's a repeating guitar riff trance/jam.

quarter23cd
I'm not sure if mine follows the "rules" exactly. I made a list that compiles, almost year-by-year where my musical tastes have been over the past 15-20 years.(so it doesn't necessarily follow the order of what was new at the time--just when I was really into that band) I kind of dig it. It leaves out a TON of stuff in that it is mostly rock-centric and doesn't pay a lot of attention to other stuff that I was listening to that wasn't at the top of my radar (a lot of jazz, reggae, hip-hop, electronic), but its pretty cool. My *earliest* and most embarrassing hair-metal stuff isn't on here since I probably no longer own any of it in any format anymore, so this list picks up somewhere around 1990 or so when I was in full-on Classic Rock mode in high school and goes chronologically from there. I tried to make it "flow" like a mix I'd like to listen to, tho I haven't given it a spin yet to see if that worked out. Its fun to chart the genre-hopping going on, tho. (even if the scope here is mostly limited to "rock") Magic Carpet Ride - Steppenwolf (a cacth-all song to represent my Classic Rock obsession at the time)Thorn In My Pride - Black CrowesStraight to Hell - Drivin' n' Cryin'Weight of the World - Widespread PanicPay For What You Get - Dave Matthews BandWaiting in Vain - Bob MarleyRide the Tide - Screamin' Cheetah WheeliesJessica - Allman Bros BandSilence Kid - PavementTurn it On - Flaming LipsSoft Serve - Soul CoughingGun - Uncle TupeloBlame, Etc - Afghan WhigsBox Full of Letters - WilcoWindfall - Son VoltWhen You Discover - Buffalo TomThe Hour Grows Late - Yo La TengoArtificial Life - Operation IvyThe 11th Hour - RancidMargin Walker - FugaziBorn Toulouse Lautrec - New Bomb TurksHave the Time - The SlackersFlat Earth Society - Bad ReligionAnd It Stoned Me - Van MorrisonOne Bourbon One Scotch One Beer - John Lee HookerHow to Disappear Completely - RadioheadRadio Cure - WilcoOne Too Many Blows to the Head - Dismemberment PlanCollect the Diamonds - Q and Not ULast Chance to Dance Trance - Medeski, Martin & WoodIts All Over Now - Rebirth Brass BandSet Out Running - Neko CaseStormy Monday - Allman BrosHe's Gone - Grateful DeadA Kiss Before I Go - Ryan AdamsLowdown - My Morning JacketMr. Tough - Yo La TengoHate It Here - WilcoHow a Resurrection Really Feels - The Hold Steady
