thermocaster
Dave, Nice article. FYI, though, Stirratt was not in Uncle Tupelo. I thought Stirrat and Coomer both joined Uncle Tupelo after the last album, and were there for the final tour?
goosenater
Alright. So I bought tix to this show awhile back. Been with Wilco since UT days. Leave central IL at 4:00 pm to head for Indy with my friend. We stop around Champaign so she can smoke and I can put gas in the car. We headed back on the highway, listening to Wilco tunes the whole way. Mind you, I used to take this route all the time when I was in college. I'm thinking things look a little bit country, as far as the scenery goes, but we're having fun. We get right around Kankakee, IL and I'm looking at the mile markers and something doesn't seem right. I'm looking for low 200's and it's mid-300's. We realize we totally went the wrong way for WAY too long without realizing it. Mind you, I'm ten years older than my friend, but I'm far the greater Wilco fan. She's never heard of Pekin. We turn around, and decided to still try to make the show -- we're going to backtrack over 100 miles and then head East towards Indy. Clearly, I was very upset with myself for the impaired navigational skills. We get there, finally around 11:30 and saw few cars in the parking lot. My heart sank. I couldn't believe that I totally missed Wilco. But thanks for the link to the pics... those are awesome photos and much appreciated!!

fif1435
Murat Folks, I recorded the show, I am tracking and listening to it as I type this. I need to do a bit of mastering to it so it will be up in a week or so on www.bt.etree.org. Soundboy,Was it you that let my wife and I share a table with at the Rathskeller before the show? If so, hope your hotel room was reasonably decent and you made it home with no problems.Wife surprised me with buying The Wilco Book as an early Father's Day present. Then we hung out after the show. Jeff Tweedy autographed the book AND we got our picture taken with him. It was the perfect ending to a wonderful day and a fabulous show! Can't wait to hear your recording of the show. Blue and Green
The show was great! One of the best I have been to in a while. The energy was awesome from the band and the crowd.

Both played on the last U.T. record. In fact if I remember correctly there was Jeff, Jay, Ken, John, and Max with a guest spot from doug sham. Mike left tupelo after the march e.p.....ken was the second drummer to replace mike. it is all in learning how to die by greg kot. good book that is worth the time. spongebob
D Alan C
The show was the best I've seen so far of Wilco...in a tie with seeing Jeff in Chicago. Anyways, just wondering, does anyone know who opened for them??
gasypo25
Loved the show. It was the fifth time that I saw Wilco (Saw them in Bloomington 4/06, Murat 10/13/05, Cincinnati, Oh 2/05 and the Murat 7/19/02 and this ranked right up there with the best.

crimesofparis
And who provided the macrame neckace for the owl? If that "marcrame necklace" was a chain with a dollar sign on it, it was from someone in the front row at the Cincinnati show.
Hummingbird
Your shots are awesome; thanks for sharing! Amazing! I shot the show for IndianapolisMusic.net. Thought I'd share them with you all... Sorry about the quality, the lighting was beautiful but pretty uneven (during the songs I was allowed to shoot). The show was incredible, as always. Blue-Eyed Soul
The Indy show was my 2nd Wilco show. My 1st was the Purdue show on Oct. 4th. Seeing Jeff so happy and filled with energy at this show was awesome. I loved his little running in place Hummingbird dance. It was delightful. lol I got to meet the band afterwards. I got some pics and autographs. It was my boyfriend's, sister's, and brother's girlfriend's 1st Wilco show. I would say they definitely got a GREAT show! I can't wait til they come this way, again! mountain bed
Over the last couple of days, I've thought back again & again to this show. It's just my perception, but I don't know if I've ever seen a Wilco show where the band/audience synergy was any higher. Both just seemed to feed off of the other. Maybe not the best but definitely the most fun Wilco show I've caught. At first I was kind of 'meh' about the new record. But after seeing these new tunes done live I was amazed how great they came off live. It's obvious they're really enjoying the new material. The audence 'participation' during "Shake It Off" was outrageous! Watching the band members one by one get a big shit-eating grin on their face was a priceless moment. Damn I wish the webcast could have been heard just for that. The Murat is notorious for having boomy, bassy acoustics in spots throughout the room ( I overheard complaints from some after the show about this), but I was lucky enough to have DFC 1st row balcony seats & from that vantage point it sounded great. As good as I've ever heard the Murat sound. A really wonderful time both pre-show and post-show as well. Meeting up with friends both old & new. It warmed my crusty old hippie heart! Is it appropriate here to just say FT. WAYNE IN THE FALL ?

thisyearsgirl
Is it appropriate here to just say FT. WAYNE IN THE FALL ? we can all hope...the embassy acoustics are much better than the murat. plus, it would be fantastic to see the grassroots effort come to fruition and to see wilco in my hometown! I haven't been to many concerts where the overall energy-interaction with the crowd was that good. Being a furriner with not the highest opinion of cincinnati I was very pleasantly surprised. As good as I've ever heard the Murat sound. The sound was pretty good however I thought Jeff's voice was a little low in the mix...Some songs you couldn't really hear him, but it could have been where I was sitting. I do agree with 100% on the crowd intensity and energy...It was such a great crowd and it was fun to watch the band feed off the crowd's energy. (vice versa)
Blue-Eyed Soul
How did you go about securing a meeting with the band? My boyfriend is the one that spotted Jeff getting off the tour bus. We were just chillin' outside the marque talking to my parents and other VCers, when he took off towards the bus. I followed him-not knowing what he was doing. When we came to a stop, there was Mr. Jeff Tweedy right in front of us. I got to meet him before my mom, so I just had to rub it in when I got back over to the group. Later, we met the other members. All you have to do is stay after the show and hope to catch them.
