does scooby-doo give you nightmares too?

now, islamic extremeism...that should give you nightmares.

No...bible studies don't scare me.

Bible studies & prayer breakfasts at the friggin' PENTAGON? Christian Evangelist organizations potentially influencing and informing DOD policy?? Ummm...YEAH, I guess that does sorta give me the willies. Ha-lay-loo-yah.

In many societies the 5 sided figure is a symbol of evil.

Oct. '67: Abbie, Jerry & tens of thousands of others surrounded the Pentagon & caused it to levitate. :stunned

Personally, I would rather my officials have a walk with Christ than not. The Pentagon workers who are having Bible studies are a great, great thing. Is there something wrong with that? People will fight like hell to try and protect everyone else's rights and make sure everything is pc, but when a Christian practices his faith, they are persecuted.

It's one thing to misuse your faith (which I believe the current administration does), but there is quite a bit of difference for someone to try and deepen their relationship within their faith and make informed decisions based upon their faith. I try to do this everyday in my life as well as at work. I am a teacher. I know that practicing one's faith is a big no-no in public education, yet I fail to see how I can leave my faith and beliefs at the door when I go into work. I hope I can show Christ's love through my actions and his love for all.

I know this is an unpopular position but it's one that many, many people feel compelled to lead a Christian life in all aspects of their life. You cannot not just leave your faith at the door when you walk into work or whatever situation that presents itself.

I wonder how many people actually watched the video....

Way back early in the Iraq occupation I read a story about a military minister who had access to facilities to bath (can't remember if it was a shower or bathtub) But he allowed soldiers to use the stuff only if they would let him baptize them. I don't recall ever hearing if he was disciplined or not, which makes me think not.

that's pretty much my take on this as well.

Thantos,

i was only ribbing you on this. i guess of all the threats to our country, i just don't see this making the short-list. there are those in any group that can abuse things of this nature, but don't see it happening in this case.

Yes, there is something wrong with that...SEPARATION OF CHURCH & STATE!!! I have no problem with high-ranking military officials or government representatives (or anyone) practing their faith in private...but keep it out of my government and schools! It has nothing to do with being "P.C.".

So long as they are not forcing you or others to participate in their Bible studies, then it is a private practice of their faith. They are not bully-ragging you into joining them nor are they making a "have to" part of the job. I'm sure all who are interested can join.

There is nothing wrong with one practicing their faith so long as they do not force against their will.

so you favor "don't ask don't tell" then?

actually it has EVERYTHING to do with being P.C.

Is the faith practicing on the clock or before and/or after work, though? Just curious here.

And I do agree that Christians get a bad rap these days. .

Ok, wandering a bit..but I have a q for ya LC: does your school have the "see you at the pole" thing? Here the kiddos that want to ( and adults too) meet at the flagpole before the official start of the school day to pray etc. No one is 'on the clock' yet, so it seems to me to be a reasonable compromise for the church/state issue.

There is a a difference between faith and religion. Faith is something that should always be practiced. Leave religion for before and after work. As for the bible studies it appeared that they took place before work or at gatherings not on the clock, as it were.

I guess I see your point...I mean, there really is no harm with high-ranking officials in the most powerful military force in the history of civilization looking to the Good Book for guidance. After all, our Commander in Chief NEVER leaves his faith at the door....According to him, J.C. actually gave a thumbs up to the whole Iraq invasion!

Praise the Lord and pass the ammunition.

We've got nothing like that at my school. In fact, reciting the Pledge of Allegiance is optional and left to the discretion of each individual classroom teacher. We also do not celebrate/officially recognize Halloween or Easter. We do a Kwanzaa/Christmas/Hanukkah gloss-over at that time of year, too.

I always figured there's plenty of time to do your belief practices before/after work/school. Isn't it easier that way anyway? Work/school is for, uh, work/school. If my belief is to watch 3 hours of Golden Girls a day should I get a pass on that at work?

Couldn't care less who's religious and who isn't, but there are laws regarding use of government facilities and resources in regards to religious practice, and they need to be followed.

And I also think it is perfectly reasonable for people to question in what ways religious beliefs influence policy. People are certainly free to believe whatever they want to believe, but our government affects all of us, and to the extent that those religious beliefs damage the country, it is perfectly within our rights to question them.

well, i think we all admit that dubya is an embarrassment. i believe he only used the "religious right" to get himself into office and to hide behind it in certain policy situations. i don't believe he is genuine, but rather a "tool" in more ways than one. he has betrayed those who put him in office and i only laugh to keep from crying when he pulls out the old "God told me to" excuse. that's a hunch of horseshit. i can't wait till the house is cleaned for the next corrupt administration. whatever party they may be representing. i'm done putting my faith in politicians or political parties. they all reek of ego.
