mountain bed
well, i think we all admit that dubya is an embarrassment. i believe he only used the "religious right" to get himself into office and to hide behind it in certain policy situations.A guy named David Kuo (who was dubya's head of the Office of Faith-Based Initiatives) wrote a very good book called "Tempting Faith" that explores the hypocrisy of this Admin. Highly recommended if you're interested.

isadorah
when a Christian practices his faith, they are persecuted. really??? persecuted. really. you think not being able to conduct religious activities at the workplace, when it is a government workplace for a governement that has a constitution that has the separation of church and state is persecution. let's talk persecution: i'm a witch. would it be ok if i conducted my religion at the workplace right after the bible study? huh, i have a really really hard time hearing about christians being persecuted for practicing their faith. did i mention i was a witch, remember the whole burning at the stake, salem witch trials, and oh i don't know in modern times, my lifetime even, having christians knocking on my door insisting on draggin me to church with them to save me from satan, now that, my friends is persecution. asking someone not to hold bible study in a US government workplace, that is sticking to the separation of church and state. sorry, a genuine hot spot for me. isadorah
Margaret Hamilton was a good actress. she was great! "what a world, what a world" now that's a great movie line. i always wondered why dorothy didn't just give her the shoes. i mean dorothy did after all kill the witch's sister and take her shoes. Thanatos
i can't wait till the house is cleaned for the next corrupt administration. whatever party they may be representing. i'm done putting my faith in politicians or political parties. they all reek of ego. Well, I'm with you on that...although the Bush administration has set the bar pretty high for corruption. Overall, elections these days seem like they ultimately end up being a choice between a shit sandwich and a shit popsicle.
Thanatos
People will fight like hell to try and protect everyone else's rights and make sure everything is pc, but when a Christian practices his faith, they are persecuted. I'd be willing to bet that, historically, Christianity has spent more time in the role of persecutor than persecuted.

I agree whole-heartedly. I do not practice persecution nor do I condone the actions of hate that are done in the name of Jesus. I am sorry some of you feel that that's what a christian does. I have never told anyone they are wrong for practicing whatever religion they practice. I will never persecute another for their faith-based practices, whether it be Christian, Muslim, or witchcraft. If you want to worship a rock - go for it. If that rock is what it takes to help you get through this world and answers all of your questions about life and why we are here - go for it. If you want a witch study group at work - go for it. I can only say that 99.9% of Christians are really good people. It's that .1% that gives us a bad name. I think those people who use my faith as a tool for hate and persecution are totally wrong. Jesus teaches to love thy neighbor. I find that a very small fraction of Christians practice these hateful policies. Yet, they are the stereotyped Christians you see saying whack-job propaganda on the tv and news. I know at my school, we have to make special arrangements for Muslim children to pray and so forth, but no effort is made to give the Christian students a time for prayer or a way to bolster their faith. I live in perhaps, one of the most conservative states, if not city in America (Greenville is home of the finest Bible College in the South - Bob Jones University). And still it's an issue. So, yes, in the past Christianity has been responsible for persecution, but do we learn from our mistakes or does the once persecuted become the persecutor? Will the cycle never end? I do say that love is the key. Love all despite their beliefs and we'll all be fine.
isadorah
isadorah, I'm assuming you've read Wicked? Great book... yes, it was a great book, although i hated the ending, well from the point when dorothy landed in oz and elphalba (is that how you spell her name) reacted/how he changed the ending of the dorothy story from the original oz story. i thought it was rather uncharacteristic of that character. but still loved it. i keep reminding myself to read son of a witch, but seem to forget everytime i am at a book store.
