Hello Ellen, this is Jeff Tweedy...

Recommended Posts

Yup, it's true...and I'm still freaking out!!! :dancing

My wonderful, generous, selfless friend Belinda decided to ask both Jeff and Glenn if they would talk to me. We are very unsuccessful out here in the East in getting to be able to see the band after the show. So Bel figured this would be the next best thing. And IT WAS!!! :yes

After the Louisville show this evening, while waiting for her turn for pics & autographs, she thought why not ask Jeff...the worst he could do was say "no", but instead he took the phone without hesitation :)

I had been at a show myself, but came outside to the call...duh!!! So there I was talking to Jeff Tweedy and then Glenn Kotche on the streets of New Haven, CT. Shortly after that I was bawling and hyperventilating...oh the life of a fan :wub

Thank you Bel for thinking of me (always) and thank you Tony (for taking pics of the boys talking to me)!!! You both are thoughtful, kind people!!!

I will write more tomorrow, but I am aiming for at least 5 hours of sleep before I have to work a double tomorrow :hmm

This story reminds me of meeting Jeff after a show in Tempe during the AGIB tour. My wife who was not feeling very well after the show was over, went to lay down in the car while i was having the band sign my Wilco book.

Being a taper i still had my rig with me. After letting Jeff know of her condition and how she was a big fan, I asked Jeff if he could leave a message for my wife on the tape. Without hesitation he ask me her name and took my mic and left a heart felt message to her wishing her well and hoping to see her the next time we were around for a show.

Jeff then left the venue parking lot in this piece of shit ford pinto. This sequence of events opened my eyes to just how generous and down to earth he and this whole band really are.

God i love this band!

As someone who's had an opportunity to interview four members of the band (Jay B, Pat, John S and Glenn) and who had Mr. Tweedy quote a lengthy passage of a negative review of a solo show of his, I know how over the moon you must feel. This band is really an inspiration to me, Jeff in particular. Very happy for your experience. Nice to see Jeff continues being a down to earth person.

Okay...no, I haven't been sleeping since last time I wrote ;)

I have talked to most of you and filled you in on the details. So for the rest...

Basically, my chat with Jeff was short, simple and sweet (and A-MA-ZING!!!) "Hello Ellen, this is Jeff Tweedy..." Duh! Like I didn't KNOW!!! :wub At the end, "Okay Ellen, you have a great night and hopefully, we'll see you out here next time." (He said my name TWICE!!! :lol )

My talk with Glenn was more of a conversation (5-10 mins). He asked where I was, why I was there (as I wasn't in my home state), we talked about the challenges for us here in the East v. the Midwest in meeting the band, etc. And, of course, I told him how incredible I thought he was, particularly his opening act for Jeff's solo show in Northampton Nov '05. It truly was out-of-this-world. I had no idea at the time who Glenn was, but his show just killed...SOOO guh-reat!!! :rock

This was definitely the 3rd most wonderful, overwhelming moment of my life (only following the births of my two beautiful babies) :D

Thank you all for being here & sharing in my joy :)

Wow!!! It's not enough this band makes the best music in the world (in my opinion), but they're kick-ass people ta boot! Congrats on not passing out while in the middle of that call! :thumbup

definitely kick-ass people! and really accessible - living in chicago, they're so accessible you'd almost think they were still a small local act. you might find yourself standing next to john in line for the golden smog show, or walking by nels and glen in the audience at an autumn defense show and then talking instruments with john after the show, or bumping into jeff while shopping for guitar gear. jeff even popped in on one of my guitar teacher's classes once while the class was playing a wilco tune! from my experiences and all the stories i've heard from friends who've met various members of the band, they really are cool people. it's good to hear that others have had the same kinds of experiences. :thumbup
