Reni
wow.....amazing. Red Sox fans boo their own pitcher, in a playoff game, while they have a 10-3 lead......even a grand slam doesn't win anything (far from it) sheesh.
bjorn_skurj
Who got booed, Gagne?
bjorn_skurj
He was not particularly good for the Red Sox after coming over from Texas. I think he blew a game or two when things were still tight between them and the Yankees.
Reni
still.....come on. in other news.....I went to grade school with this guy, and he was one of my first crushes. His dad was an MLB player - so, it's no surprise to see him in the biz.... http://www.riverdogs.com/dogs/coaches/index.html?staff_id=
bjorn_skurj
It would seem that in New York, Boston and Philly, you will get booed if you suck, even if your suckage is ultimately irrelevant or harmless. I get the impression this does not happen so much in more polite regions.

Oil Can Boyd
He was not particularly good for the Red Sox after coming over from Texas. I think he blew a game or two when things were still tight between them and the Yankees.I'm not defending booing your own players, but Gagne has been terrible for the Sox. ERA of 6.75, no saves, 3 blown saves and 2 losses. And last night was rough. Sure he struck out the side but he also loaded the bases.
Sir Stewart
That was long-ass game, that was all over by the 5th inning. The thermometer FOX showed at Fenway dipped below fifty. Gagne has been a goddamned trainwreck, but a 1-2-3 ninth would've been sweet for both him and the frozen, tired fans. Didn't happen. I'd have booed my ass off if I was there, too. Lammycat
Gagne deserves to be booed. He's a liability.
Reni
Was his dad Mike Tyson? I remember him playing for the Cards, and later the Cubs. yup! That's the guy! -- and ya know....it's the freakin ALCS....game is pretty much in the bag. Be freakin glad. Booing you own players is lame. Come on. If it was about to be a blown save, I can kind of understand......he was sucking, but geez, it wasn't going to make a lick of difference. Poor fans.....at a pennant game.....it's cold. wah wah. Lammycat
In anticipation of a Schilling-dominated game tonight and of hearing "Dirty Water" (played after all Sox Fenway wins): A cool "mash up" featuring: The Standells - Dirty WaterJonathan Richman & the Modern Lovers - New EnglandBig D & the Kids Table - New EnglandAerosmith - Walk This WayBoston - More Than a FeelingJ Geils Band - Centerfold http://www.musicremixed.org/lenlow/Lenlow%...w%20England.mp3
bjorn_skurj
I'm not defending booing your own players. You don't have to. When I was at Shea the other night, I booed the living shit out of the Mets.
Lammycat
Big inning for the Sox: three runs and about 40 pitches from Carmona.
Mystik Spiral
Why can't the Indians hold a GD lead?!?
bjorn_skurj
Because the Red Sox are really, really good. If Cleveland wins this series, or even takes it to six games, they will have accomplished a major thing.
Mystik Spiral
Agreed. I'm just in a "Rockies are going to the World Series" mode... and the Red Sox kinda scare me...
DAngerer09
I can't stand these AL 4.5 hour games. After watching so much exciting college football, baseball is just drags. Also, the Reds hired Dusty Baker today. As a Reds, I don't think it is a great fit, but hopefully he does well.
bjorn_skurj
Gagne's in. Reminds me of this exchange from Knocked Up. Jonah: Hey Crocket, how's Tubbs doing?Martin: Oh, another beard joke?Jonah: How did it feel changing your name from Cat Stevens to Yusef Islam?Martin: It was really awkward.Jonah: See ya... Scorcese on coke.
DAngerer09
Wow. Ever since Gagne's been off the roids, he just hasn't been as good.
ction
I'm assuming Eric Gagne has photos of Francona with a sheep or something. Nothing else could explain why he gets into games that count.

DAngerer09
Yeah, my thoughts exactly. We have a really young team and Baker is not a good fit for this club.
cryptique
You'd think after the Cubs debacle that Dusty Baker would be forever consigned to TV analyst gigs (and he's not even very good at those). Bad move, Reds. Also: I see that Gagne had a hand in the 11th-inning meltdown. Why am I not surprised? ...though he was only responsible for two of the runs. What happened to Lopez and Lester? Too much time hanging out in the bullpen with Gagne?
