swirlaround
Who will win the republican nomination? The front running cross dresser, that promises more of the same? The immigrant hating Tom Tancredo, Is he a native American? Maybe John McCain, if I could find my balls I might actually stand up to Pres.? Who oh who might it be? ikol
I have no idea who it will be, but I can say with confidence it will not be Tancredo. I'm not terribly excited about any of them, but I like Huckabee. He strikes me as the least phony of all of them (with the exception of Ron Paul, but he doesn't have much chance of being nominated). Plus he has the Chuck Norris endorsement, and that's got to count for something.

Reni
I know.....I know...... He totally reminds of a game show host though - a glad handing, windbag. The GOP contenders are such a freakin joke. Giuliani? Romney? McCain? I used to halfway be able to stomach McCain but when he folded on the torture issue and became a Bush Admin lapdog - forget it. YUCK.

tugmoose
I'd start a "Draft Cheney" campaign, but then he'd need a sixth deferment.
bjorn_skurj
Ron Paul will get the fringe vote, but not much else. It'll be interesting to see whether the conservative wing or the moderate wing gets their man.
the_fliz1
I have a sneaking suspicion that Giuliani is going to be our next president. I personally would like to see Barack win but I don't think that this country will elect a minority candidate right now. WHich also takes Hillary out of the picture. Out of all of the elephant candidates, Giuliani has the most name recognition and the general public seem to associate him to New York and 9-11 so he will get the patriotic vote also. About the only other Rep. that could challenge him at this point I think is McCain. McCain is sort of a mixed bag with me though. He served in the military and was a POW so he has an idea what it is like to serve and be on the lines, also I like his views on health care and social security. On the other hands, I don't agree with his views on abortion, school vouchers, free trade, and immigration.

At least Giuliani isn't a whackjob when it comes to domestic issues, so if you guys end up saddled with yet another GOP prez, it won't be all bad. Still, don't forget that when the mud starts slinging, the 9-11 firefighters and volunteers are going to rip Rudy to fucking pieces. They hate him, and with good cause. He's as phony as politicians come.
the_fliz1
excuse me, I don't believe women are a "minority" demographic In the world of politics women are a minority which is what I was getting at. Personally, I would love to see Hillary and Barack run together, but unfortunately, I don't think they would win an election that way. Also, I'm not sure which position I would want them to run in. At least Giuliani isn't a whackjob when it comes to domestic issues, so if you guys end up saddled with yet another GOP prez, it won't be all bad. I was just saying that face value has a lot to do in politics.
MrRain422
No, Giuliani isn't as anti-abortion as the other major candidates, but he's certainly as retarded when it comes to the tax system, and he's fully behind domestic spying. I think he's the scariest of the GOP candidates. And if he does get elected, I'll probably end up in prison for this post. The NYC firefighters are already speaking out pretty loudly against him, and if he gets the Republican nomination, there's no doubt that they will take their cause national. He shouldn't get any sort of "patriotic" vote because of 9/11. Anyone who's paid attention knows all the credit that he got for the 9/11 response was total horseshit, and the way that he pushes the issue every time he opens his mouth guarantees that someone will make a stink about it if it comes down to it. Tweedling
I have not made up my mind yet but after listening to some of these posts i am leaning toward Rudy and the muppet.
MrRain422
These posts convinced you to vote for them? Why? Just to be contrary? If you really want to vote for them, that's your business, but to do so because a few people on an internet message board don't like them is just stupid. What are the issues that you care about, and what about those candidates stances on those issues attract you?

What are the issues that you care about, and what about those candidates stances on those issues attract you?To be honest, I think it's way too early to make this kind of decision. I don't think Rudy or Mitt is more frightening than any of the Democratic hopefuls. I do not do anything based on what a few people on an internet message board like or do not like. I know there are a lot of people here who scoff at the issue of security within our borders but it does rank high on my list. (since you asked) Why is Rudy "retarded" when it comes to the tax system? Would you consider what he did in New York a good job?
MrRain422
I don't think anyone here has scoffed at the importance of security. What has been scoffed at is the idea that any of the Republican candidates have any idea how to keep us secure effectively. Rudy likes the same stupid deficit growing, middle class-busting, rich-favoring tax policies as Bush.
MattZ
I know there are a lot of people here who scoff at the issue of security within our borders but it does rank high on my list. (since you asked) Well, if you consider the issue of security within our borders important, consider the following: (1) Giuliani, as mayor, established the city's commad center for an emergency, in World Trade Center 7 even though the bldgs had been attacked in 1993. Rudy refused suggestions to build the center in Brooklyn. So, on 9/11, the city's command center was taken out and useless. (2) Outdated communications equipment used by fire/police/port authority on 9/11 resulted in an inability to communicate with rescuers properly. Rescuers simply couldn't be informed of the danger of the towers collapsing (before or after the first tower collapsed). Again, no lessons learned from 1993, and little to no foresight by the mayor to be certain that first responders were in the best position to succeed. (3) Guiliani's hand picked nomination to head the Dept of Homeland Security is now a laughing stock (Bernie Kerik). (4) Giuliani has consistently downplayed the health effects arising from the air quality in lower Manhattan after the attacks. As has been mentioned here earlier - ask the NYC firefighters what they think of Giuliani. Seems to me, if the issue of security is high on your list, that you should vote for someone else. Unless you want someone with a history of zero foresight but the ability to get in front of a camera and wave a flag.
