Whitty
Laura Flores - Turnover (employment) 1) Passover Seder2) Stray Cats3) Dan Patrick (politics)4) Miss Navajo 5) Silversword alliance6) Deck the Halls7) 221B Baker Street8) David Lafata9) Horace Bury10) Hamilton Avalanche11) Alpheus Felch12) Sayyad Zabiuddin Known to the music industry primarily for her grammy winning single, "El Alma No Tiene Color" (The Soul Has No Color), Mexican indie rocker Laura Flores dishes out a vicious cornucopia of hot tamales on her third release, Turnover (employment). Beginning with Passover Seder, in which she savages the U.S. government for not recognizing Jewish holidays, Flores, who is Catholic, runs through styles as diverse as her multicolored waist-length hair. Rather than the expected tribute to rockabilly legend Stray Cats, the second track features a heartbreaking coda of actual feral cats growling in hunger while drums pound out an ominous salsa beat. Dan Patrick (politics) is a parodic "tribute" to the Texas senator whose political causes include a boycott of Bill Maher's television show Politically Incorrect. Flores is equally dismissive of beauty pageants in Miss Navajo and of dubious sexual practices in her modern retelling of the legendary Alpheus Felch. But it is on the cover songs that she is at her most vituperative. Deck the Halls is a blast of south of the border punk, transforming the insipid Christmas standard into a Latino version that sounds like a Mexican waitress channelling Johnny Rotten, while 221B Baker Street subverts the Gerry Rafferty classic by keeping the tune note-perfect while reversing the lyrics, e.g., "Dead in your head but light on your feet ...." The disc ends with the chilling Sayyad Zabiuddin, the name of a suspect in the July 2006 Mumbai train bombings. His name was also given as Zabiuddin Ansari by a different source, but here Flores just calls him "that asshole."
Sweet Papa Crimbo
K so I must admit I stole this from the atease message boards, but it's pretty funny. The rules: 1) Go on wikipedia.2) Click Random Page - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Special:Random The title of this article is your band name.3) Click Random Page again. This is your album name.4) Click 12 more times. These articles are the CD's tracks. I've found it's a lot more fun if you exclude place names and names of people. This is my latest: Thalys--Portman Building Society1) vtiger CRM2) Chinese language3) Ever Fallen in Love?4) Soft serve5) Dobie (disambiguation)6) Novosibirsk Air Enterprise7) List of state leaders in 16518) 5 Alive!9) Stanley-Whitman House10) Black Venus11) Forest Park12) A Night in Amsterdam Indie-rock with some electronic leanings. The album drags a bit towards the end... Mr. Heartbreak
Thanks. I was actually tempted to post it to wikipedia, but I don't have an account with them. Anyone who wants to "steal" it, feel free.

Pasadena Jewish Temple and Center 6. DAMP (Software Bundle)7. New Belgian Front8. Harry Romero9. Ahmed Bader Hassoun10. Yolande Baven11. Age Khan Lycee12. Robert O. Lowery Omaha natives, The Crop, make obvious nods to the Velvet Underground with their 2004 release Red Banana. The opening track "Forever Young (Cory Quirino's Guide to Fitness)" is a post-modernist noise-dance epic that strings out for 8 minutes. Allegedly the band wrote the song as a tongue-in-cheek tribute to an exercise video they found at a garage sale. The twin tracks fo "Begalijica" and "Mombarcaro" were written by the bands lead singer after a trip through Southern and Eastern Europe, the predominant accordion and violin drones conjure up a mixture of the Velvet Underground and gypsy music--"Begaljica" even includes a Django Reinhardt styled solo. The middle tracks of the album drag, but the conceptual angle of the album lifts off with the final 5 tracks, all dedicated to figures the band had great respect for, including Robert O. Lowery, the 21st fire commissioner of New York and Yolande Baven a Sri Lankan singer. The eclectic stylings of the band really come to light on the latter of those tracks which went on to be featured in a number of television commercials. Despite the success of Red Banana the band broke up soon after its release citing "artistic differences."

the_fliz1
VINEA (Soft Drink) - San Carlo Canavese 1. Maricopa2. Captivity3. Baron Penzance4. State Court5. 2003 El Nogal Club Bombing6. Hedley Hill7. Vladimir Petrov8. Mad House Records9. Topaza10. Regional Government of Peru11. Charlotte Rt. 412. XF-84H ThunderScreech Vinea is a band that started out as a studio band put together by the record label Mad House Records to back many influential Reggae singers of the 1980's. The band had disappeared into obscurity after their bus got lost on the way to a show in Peru in early 2003. As it turns out the band was arrested on suspicion of a night club bombing. After being held and falsely charged with a crime they didn't commit, they managed to escape their captors with the help of some individuals who only want to be referred to as Face, B.A. and Murdock. After traveling the world with their new companions as mercenaries for hire, Vinea decided to emigrate back to the United States and record an album based on their experiences, and so San Carlo Canavese was born. Although revered by critics and fellow musicians for it's musical exploration of reggae and it's hard driving political message, San Carlo Canavese, went virtually unnoticed until the song "XF-84H ThunderScreech" was picked up for the soundtrack of the amateur adult film by "Saved By the Bell" star - Dustin Diamond. Diamond was asked why he chose "ThunderScreech" for his movie, and he replied " it seemed like the song was written just for me". After Vinea won multiple Grammy's for ThunderScreech, the band has been in high demand for the soundtracks of other celebrity amateur adult films. The next release for Vinea is a full length soundtrack for the amateur adult film "The Penguin Rides Again" starring real life husband and wife team Danny Devitio and Rhea Pearlman with cameos from William Shatner and Bob Saget. After touring the world for the release of The Penguin Rides again, the band has expressed an interest in making a children's album.

thermocaster
Limehouse Declaration - Harker Lake 1) Ryus, Kansas2) Gardner, Kansas3) Stockholm Environment Institute US Center4) Service Robot5) Creative Environmental Networks6) Emerson Electric Company7) Halifax Parish8) Elegant Tit9) Cortegana10) Sonometer11) Mustn't Grumble (An Accidental Return to England) Fresh off their recent tour of northern England with Billy Bragg, Britpop socialist proselytizers Limehouse Declaration entered the studio to craft their latest political manifesto. What emerged was Harker Lake, an earnest, if somewhat muddled, sophomore effort from the five-piece who rose to prominence on their hit single "Where Has The Channel Gone" two years ago. The album, which takes its name from a depleted lake in the northern United States, begins with the expected attack on American environmental philosophy, as the band describes the imagined plight of two towns in the Kansas dust bowl. The album then unexpectedly moves into a four-part suite, starting with "Stockholm Environment Institute", lamenting the plight of Swedish scientists in the USA, set to a pounding backbeat which sounds like a cross between ABBA and Television. While the band's musical indebtedness to both Blur and My Bloody Valentine is apparent, Limehouse Declaration manages to work in other elements, such as the Robbie Williams-flavored "Elegant Tit", a bizarre but agreeable ode to an engangered bird. However, the album runs out of steam before the end, as the plodding "Sonometer" and the drab, colorless "Mustn't Grumble" fail to either excite or inform.
Sir Stewart
I'm surprised there isn't a real band called "You" - that I've heard of.
mpolak21
I'm surprised there isn't a real band called "You" - that I've heard of. Yeah and I've always figured since we have Yes, eventually a band would call itself No. --Mike
