Why no Wilco Street Team

Recommended Posts

Not that they really need it but I know many of us would be willing to do some leg work for them.

Have they ever done Street Team?

I would do it in a New York Minute...but they probably aren't interested in reaching my demographic.

I'm basically a Wilco Street Team all on my own. I'm bringing my friend to the Riv for one of the shows...she doesn't really know their music and last Saturday night I downloaded all my Wilco music onto her iPod so she can learn some of the songs before we go :) And I only know of Wilco cause I helped a friend win a pair of tickets for their first show on the tour last summer! And I keep talking to people where I work about them.

I would think that these days my space, music blogs, message boards, etc. make most everything else obsolete.

I disagree with that,I street team for a couple of bands, most of them smaller acts and I think it helps get the word out. As long as they need me, I'll be there for them. I know that atleast a hand full of times I wen't to see a band do to a flyer or poster I saw around town.

I see your point. But - it just seems to me that the internet is main catalyst for spreading the word these days. I don't go to shows really - except for the few concerts I have been to over the past few years. I suppose someone must have hung up those 1 or 2 Ryan Adams posters I saw before he played here - I figure it was the promoter though.

I agree with how the internet has solved many problems, but I still know people that would miss every show unless someone reminded them in some way or form. Many of them I would rather not see at shows, meaning that their not really going to see a show but rather to party and cause havoc. A band like Wilco has no real need to advertise themselves, but a band like Dr. Dog needs a bit of leg work to get their name out. And I believe our efforts on smaller bands helps them out in a positive way.

Say side projects, like Glenns work, the show he last played here, their were only like 40 of us at the show, and maybe using Wilco as a catalyst might of helped that.

on the other hand wilco hasn't grown much in terms of the venues they play lately. they've never made the leap to arenas or sheds.

i figure with a decent push and a solid opening act they could do outdoor summer shows... a street team could help this. although i have no idea if band is really interested in that type of tour.

however, from a fan perspective, i'd rather see them outdoors on their own tour, than on the festival circuit.

Wilco can afford a year-round publicist and they have a damn fine one. Steet teams are for bands that can't really afford publicists 24/7.

Festivals usually pay more.

i love doing street team work, but i think wilco is big enough that it doesn't really gain them more fans to have a street team. car commercials do that much quicker! ;)

but i would be all for handing out flyers or something before the next show that i go to...

maybe we should make a VC street team to hand out VC flyers at wilco shows!!

At the risk of sounding heretical - I think it would be really really neat to see Wilco headline outdoors at Deer Creek or wherever with 12,000 people.

Maybe someday it will be so.
