The dreaded second record has derailed many a promising band: years preparing, rehearsing, performing and grooming material for the first album followed by a poorly prepared second album rushed by the record company.

Here's recognizing the bands/artists with REAL staying power...at least for two records.

In no particular order (and as many as I want to list...20 is a guideline. A suggestion. Not a rule.)

The Beatles --- With the Beatles (UK version brutha!)

Big Star --- Radio City

Bruce Springsteen --- The Wild, The Innocent and the E Street Shuffle

Nirvana --- Nevermind (Bleach being the first)

The Clash --- Give 'em enough rope

Metallica --- Ride the Lightening

Creedence Clearwater Revival --- Bayou Country

Black Sabbath --- Paranoid

Uncle Tupelo --- Still Feel Gone

Wilco --- Being There

Alejandro Escovedo --- 13 years

Pearl Jam --- Vs.

Jimi Hendrix Experience --- Axis: Bold as Love

Elvis Costello --- This year's Model

Band of Horses --- Cease to Begin

Oasis --- What' the Story Morning Glory

Bob Dylan --- The Freewheelin' Bob Dylan

The Band --- The Band

Led Zeppelin --- Led Zeppelin II

Amy Winehouse --- Back to Black

Radiohead --- the Bends

Badfinger --- No Dice (if you count Magic Christian as the first release of Straight Up if you consider No Dice the first)

Whiskeytown --- Stranger's Almanac

Public Enemy --- It Takes a Nation of Millions to Hold Us Back

Jay Z --- In My Lifetime, Vol. 1

Arcade Fire --- Neon Bible

Neil Young --- Everbody knows this is nowhere (I had doubts about this one...but everything I see credits this as a Neil solo album (i.e., Neil Young with Crazy Horse as opposed to Neil Young and Crazy Horse)

Queens of the Stone Age --- Rated R

Parklife was Blur's 3rd; they had one before Modern Life is Rubbish.

This should be like a top 100 sophomore records so we could list more lol.

Incesticide was a disc of rarities; though all of the songs predated Nevermind, the album came out the year after Nevermind hit.

I took some liberties with the Beck one, since One Foot in the Grave and Stereopathetic Soulmanure are often considered "unofficial releases"

But as far as Nirvana goes, a) Inscesticide isn't an album it's a rarities compilation and B) it came out after Nevermind anyway

I stand corrected....

With Beck I agree it is hazy. He has Western Harvest, Golden Feelings, One Foot, Stereopathetic and Mellow Gold all which came out before Odelay...But I get what you are saying! :dancing

Speaking of Insectiside...I like the Sliver alot! :thumbup

Would have been A LOT wittier if you hadn't actually posted a serious list here. ;)

I just held back for as long as I could, until I couldn't anymore and it came exploding out of me.

It's actually a lot more satisfying that way, you know...

Yes, Beck had like 90 indie albums he released in a 2 year period.

I love "Sliver", it's such an insanely catchy song.
