fineartoflife
After seeing Wicked, and learning that they've been doing that for 4 years, 6 days a week, I wonder what thats like, how they keep their enthusiasm/interest. Then I thought about bands who tour a lot, and realized some are probably in the same situation. Wilco definetly does not seem to fit in this category, but it makes you wonder if other bands are in that state when you see them
zebra
I think it's not as bad with Wilco because they seem to have a new set list every night, but yeah, ever night with the same set list would get tiresome after a while.

remphish1
Wilco was very tired and uninspired in 2001 then the re-energized.
Guest Jules
Wilco was very tired and uninspired in 2001 then the re-energized. So, they were uninspired when recording Yankee Hotel Foxtrot?
remphish1
So, they were uninspired when recording Yankee Hotel Foxtrot? We are talking about live shows. I saw them at the Electric Factory in Fall 2001 and it was very so so...you can tell they were very tired.
Mr. Kinsley
What's Wicked?A really great musical based on the best-selling book of the same name.

Jay Bennett seemed tired in the movie when he suggested they throw together a bunch of "easy rockers" for an upcoming show rather than working up live versions of their more elaborate tunes. jff
A really great musical based on the best-selling book of the same name. Oh ok. I thought you were talking about a band. I have no idea how they keep their enthusiasm. I know I woldn't be able to pull it off. I would think the cast of Wicked has a pool of understudies and subs to pull from when a performer is unable to work for whatever reason. Surely the knowledge that someone can step in for you and that shows don't have to be cancelled as a result of illness, injury or death helps boost morale. That luxury doesn't exist for bands, except for Kiss, maybe.

Wilco definetly does not seem to fit in this category, but it makes you wonder if other bands are in that state when you see them Wicked has understudies that replace the stars at least (sometimes twice) per week. Wicked rotates the two leads (and all other actors) out annually. I understand the other members of Wilco have rotated out, but if Tweedy was no longer in the band or took days off I don't think it would have the same effect as some off-broadway actresses in Green face paint.
