solace
This Reign O'er Me with Vedder is pretty good. yeah... while i loved the Lips medley too, Pearl Jam kinda made the other tributes seem almost amateurish in comparison
Guest Jules
yep, top shelf stuff
solace
but still... for their age, Roger & Pete kick a ton of ass too
Guest Hollinger.
the Pearl Jam performance was helped immensely by having Brenden O'Brien on piano instead of Boom. I love Boom, but he's just not good enough to pull that off.

bobbob1313
yeah, I was less blown away because I saw them do that song a few weeks ago and I'm just a generally bigger flips fan. Still, eddie always kills that one and it's one of my favorite songs of all time.
mountain bed
so the flips just rocked the shit out of Tommy. That was pretty fucking awesome and spectacular.YES! I went over to visit my parents (who are HUGE Who fans btw - at age 68!) tonight and they were watching/tivoing the show. I got to see the Lips medley and I thought it was just fucking amazing! Can't wait to see the whole thing. Also, they'd never heard of the Lips - but after the medley, and my recommendations, I think I may have some converts here. They were quite impressed. bobbob1313
Also, I just can't help but smile when I watch them. I think the site of Wayne Coyne in a bubble just makes me happy.
Artifice
:warning - killjoy incoming: I guess I was the only one who was unimpressed. I love the Lips, but they sounded terrible. I think it was the acoustics/sound guy/etc, but I flipped the channels cause it was making me squirm. The others, except Pearl Jam, were even worse. While Pearl Jam was good, none of the singers last night, including Daltrey, could do Roger Daltrey. None of it sounded right. Not looking for a note for note reproduction of the classics, just vocals that aren't so stylistically different. Then again, half of the leads' mics were so low you could barely hear them, like the sound guy was trying to cover up all these bad singers. The most impressive thing I saw was Pete. He fucking rocks. He's still a cut above everyone else. He really made all the other guitarists look like geeky wannabes. So, guess I'm off to find my flame retardent suit... watch me fall
I thought most of the bands did a good job. Hell, I can only imagine how daunting and intimidating it must've been for them to even cover Who songs with the band watching. But yes, Pete was awesome. I found myself watching him most of the time the band was on stage. Oh and Eddie Vedder is a god. Stone Gossard, too. And what was Brandon Boyd singing? If I wasn't familiar with the songs, I'd have no idea. Could barely hear him. Edit - Did Billy Idol get plastic surgery?
stooka
What wuz up with Taylor Hawkins? All the other drummers last night played Moon bits, but if you look back at Bargain, it's clear he didn't do his homework.
watch me fall
The drummer from Foo Fighters? I hadn't heard that about him, but I'm not a big fan or anything. I've always liked him though. Did anyone else find it a little strange that no British bands played? Well except the dude from Supergrass but I'm not counting him.
stooka
Didnt he try to kill himself not too long ago? See what I mean, the guy always seems to fall short.
Gobias Industries
Lips = awesomeAlso pleasantly pleased with the D's Squeeze Box, Jack Black actually was pretty sweet on it. Didn't see it personally but I'm just catching the videos. Pino is kicking the shit out of that bass though. Love that guy. However Daltrey doesn't have his trademark intensity :'(
Analogman
Videos up at Vh1 The Pearl Jam take on The Real Me seemed pretty cool. Roger is having an off night I think. For those who don't know - that is Ringo's son, Zak on drums. He also plays the drums in Oasis now. Nice touch - the bass player wearing the skeleton suit. (That is what John wore at the Isle of Wight Festival) Still my favorite See Me, Feel Me - the Woodstock version. Maybe we can get old man Skyflynn to post in this thread. watch me fall
Noel had a falling out with someone? Shocking! He did have me laughing last night, though. Chris Martin on the other hand made me nauseous.

MrRain422
Matt Cameron was the only drummer in the whole show who pulled it off.
solace
Matt Cameron was the only drummer in the whole show who pulled it off. i thought Kliph from the Flaming Lips pulled off the Moon fairly well too, but Drozd would have killed it

stooka
Overall, I found the show to be quite good. Sometimes these kinds of performances can be kinda ridiculous. I've listened to the Who since I was 5 and last night's tribute was fitting. Incubus were snappy with I Can't Explain and The F-Lips roared through a Tommy medley, making sure that their bass and guitar tones were on the mark. Eddie Vedder and Co. were near perfect on their choices from Quadrophenia, while Pete and Roger show that for a couple of old guys, they can still capture the spirit of their former selves. I was damn proud.
Sweet Papa Crimbo
yeah... while i loved the Lips medley too, Pearl Jam kinda made the other tributes seem almost amateurish in comparison Truer words have never been written on the internets. For the life of me I will never understand why so many of you disdain Pearl Jam. Their fight against Ticketmaster ALONE has earned my respect. They could have gone on to make mass appeal cds, record videos for every song, date starlets (i.e. done the rock star thing), but they stayed true to their vision. I say without any intended irony that Pearl Jam is one of the best bands ever. Side Note: Seeing Roger and Pete tear it up in their 60's is truly inspiring.
Gobias Industries
I don't like Pearl Jam because Eddie Vedder never sounds not constipated. So sue me.
