New and Improved 3-ply election thread...

it's not desperation, it's maverickosity.

i don't think mccain ever had a lot of supporters. obama has a lot of opposers.

It's Maverickly delicious!

And, I think your right, from personal experience I feel a lot of the McCain voters I know will vote for him out of Obama fear. Many I speak to think Palin's stupid & McCain is crazy..but hate Obama because he is much too liberal or some other jive.

I would say no. The tone of his campaign over the last couple months smells of Rove and/or his acolytes. I don't get the sense that McCain is at the wheel right now.

right, i think. that may be why he seems numb and a bit robotic, whereas he didn't when he was first running. come to think of it, rove hasn't been himself either lately, has he? what's happening, body snatchers and pod people?

maverickosity.

Classic. Trade mark that puppy and put it on T-shirts

I personally dont't think Palin will bow out. It's too late and this is the best chance she wiill ever have of becoming president. She may not be the brightest but she's sarah barracuda/snark off. Any how I didn't think it was possible but she makes Michelle Bachman from MN look like a freakeing genius.

As to the debates? I have no idea why McCain was waffling, he's already won...

it can't happen, i agree -- he's already been so erratic, especially recently. a bit concerning that he seems not "right" and we actually would end up with a president palin if he can't carry on. that reality is seeming way too real right now.

He won't dump palin. It will make him less of a Maverick™ since he would be caving. And if she quits, its more of a "Gee, I guess I can blink!"

I could totally see a VP switch. It would be very Maverick-y thing to do to replace Palin with an "economic guru" right now. Think about it, it would be a win-win-win (at least) for McCain:

1) reinforce the Maverick brand which they are hell-bent on perpetuating. who in their right mind would do something like this so late in the game? only a Maverick like McCain.

2) reinforce the Country First brand - he's so "serious" about the economy that he's willing to risk the election to "do the right thing"

3) and most importantly, remove the trainwreck that is Sara Palin before she embarasses herself & McCain any further.

The downside is that he would PO the so called "Values voters" whom he was trying to suck up to by including Palin. And the right seems to disdain smart people so he would have to be careful about who he brought on board to be the smart one on the ticket.

true, but would he still get brownie points for the effort?

and there's gotta be at least one creationist, god-loving, witch-hunting, economist out there who could be branded as The One Who Can Fix Everything (And Still Loves Jesus Like You).

Times are tough man, but if Palin gets to go up against Biden, mark my words..I'm treating myself & buying a shit ton of Lambic for that scene. The good stuff I always stare at in the booze shops but pass up for Boulevard or something affordable.

I have something to look forward to now.

Lambic is good for the special occasions.

Why all the anti-education, anti-intellectual, elitist bias we hear from the right? Why glorify someone who barely graduated from the Naval Academy(thank goodness daddy and grandpa were Admirals, ring a bell?) and demonize someone who graduated with honors from Columbia and Harvard Law? How is being well educated ever a negative?

I'm going to try to follow this logic.

Bush has a lot of opposers for some very legit reasons. Like 80% of the country. McCain hasn't been one of those opposers--in fact an enabler much of the time, so lets assume he inherits those opposers--at the very least the self-identified Dems and a lot of indies. Plus, Obama has a large group of geniune supporters.

Obama has opposers because he is viewed as "too liberal" by some, even though the other complaint I hear most is that he is too vague when he speaks. The two arguments kind on contradict each other, because if you haven't bothered to look deeper into his "vagueries", how do you know how liberal he is? Nevermind that, just tell me how his opposers can even remotely compare with the dire ill-will held against the current incumbent party?

The math isn't adding up. Mass popularity + vigorous opposition against the incumbent party (should) = landslide

So what's up?

a lot of people don't like being around people who think. you'd think that would be less the case when selecting leaders.

you'll have to be more specific.

I'm not asking you specifically, but rather to reflect on this thinking that seems typical of the right wing.
