Killer Whales
Alright, despite what a lot of you are saying, I love this album. The only track I'm not sure about yet is the longest song on the record, Prison Girls. I'll need a lot more listens to fully get into the whole thing, but my first impressions are really strong. Magpie to the Morning, This Tornado Loves You, the title track, Red Tide, and Vengance is Sleeping are all outstanding
solace
i *DO* like it, it's just not blowing me away like the last 2 did on first listen right out of the gate... i really do hope i come around on it and wind up loving it to death, cuz Neko is my fave female singer/songwriter post '00, much like M. Ward is the male (or overall) counterpart.

I think he's singing on I'm an Animal and I'm also pretty sure that's his electric guitar on Magpie
solace
yup, he's def on a few songs. and i dunno what "gunpowder eyes" are, but the way Neko sings it, i'd like to find out

Littlebear
About short songs, I must say one of my fave Neko songs is "I Missed the Point" from Blacklisted, and it's a pretty short one.

Killer Whales
Me too - and that is really the album to get. Not to say I don't love Blacklisted, because I do, but a lot of it is a little same-y sounding. Fox Confessor has always been my favorit
Littlebear
Had she only released The Virginian, I'd say it's the album to get. Everything by Neko is to get, to me, so far. I must be a fan. My fave being Canadian Amp. I hope you've heard her cover of Neil Young's "Dreaming Man", it's simply an endless addiction. The way her voice sounds in the room, as if it was your room... That album may be not her best personal work, but it's her most magic recording. Not to speak of the poignant "In California"...
myboyblue
After a couple of spins, I'd say it's pretty damn good. Hard to go wrong with that voice. I need to spend more time with it. I haven't gotten to the 31 minute opus. What's up with that song?
PigSooie
I like this.

Killer Whales
I've listened to it a good 5 or 6 times now, and I've gotta say, I love it. I can't decide how it stack up against Fox Confessor, but I can safely say it's on par with Blacklisted and Furnace Room Lullaby. The only track that doesn't do much for me is Never Turn Your Back on Mother Earth, but that's a cover so I'll cut it some slack. The songs that I'm really loving right now are The Pharaohs and Middle Cyclone. This is definitely an early contender for my favorite album of the year.
solace
i tried to listen to it at work and realized my problem with it at this point... it's kind of a sleepy album... maybe i need to listen more late at night, that helped with April

People Got a Lotta Nerve, I'm An Animal and Red Tide are the only songs I could even consider upbeat, and even some of those are barely. I listened to the album while walking in a snow-storm in Boston last night and it really fit

I've only heard it through work speakers. I'm looking forward to having this on the home stereo this weekend.
TheMaker
I think this might be almost as good as Blacklisted. Yowza. And not to piss on Fox Confessor, but it's always been my least favourite Neko record. Star Witness is easily the best thing she's ever put to tape, but the rest of the record wobbles and lurches like crazy... kind of a classic case of a record being crushed under its own weight(iness). solace
Margaret Vs. Pauline is amazing... as are John Saw That Number, Maybe Sparrow and Hold On, Hold On. edit: Teenage Feeling too
lost highway
I've heard it 1.5 times and I gotta say it is gorgeous. That woman is a genius. Some of the sonic territory she's treading is so bold. I won't stack it up to her other stuff (I felt like Fox Confessor continued to reveal more to me a year down the road) but I will say that it is superb. I also agree that it is fairly short, and a little sleepy. But it is also amazing.
Analogman
What is that noise in the background of Middle Cyclone? It almost sounds like a gas heater to me.

lost highway
I think "Fever" is one of the most original sounding recordings I've heard in ages.
Boots
I gave this a proper listen last night on the stereo (not computer speakers) with a few martinis and it really clicked. The nuance of the songs really starts to register after a few listens. I was afraid this record would be like Sky Blue Sky for me. I don
