reverb
Agreed, great show. The highlight of the night for me was Impssible Germany. I would not in a million years thought that song would be so beautiful stripped down to just Jeff and his acoustic. I have a new appreciation for that song. Great guitar playing, even greater lyrics and singing. I was also wanting Future Age. I saked for Black Eye and Pieholden Suite but it wasn't meant to be. I was 3rd row center...right in front of the guys that said "let it ring out" which Jeff seemed to think was funny. Also, Hummingbird was a pleasant surprise. Good stuff. And yes, the poster was a MUST...will be framed very soon.
paulcalypse
This was my first solo Tweedy show outside of his little Lollapalooza kids stage set. And I'm not sure I'd go see him again...in a venue that sells alcohol. I understand how people like to have a drink and enjoy a show, but people were just flat out obnoxious at this show. Maybe it was the Kalamazoo crowd, but I have a feeling lot of people traveled a bit see the show (like myself). I feel like Jeff definitely cut the show short. He almost didn't play Acuff-Rose at the end, he would have walked off stage if it wasn't for his guitar tech handing him the guitar. Also, contrary to what others are saying, I really didn't enjoy Kingpin or Impossible Germany on guitar (although the Nels impressions were hilarious). The songs just weren't made out for an acoustic performance. I'd rather see more obscure songs like Laminated Cats, or awesome acoustic songs like Sunken Treasure. I realized how bad the crowd was when at the end this guy walked up to the stage and yelled "Hey Jeff! Play The Thanks I Get. Great crowd pleaser, man." Seriously people. Jeff had his harmonicas prepped, obviously had a set list, and was in great spirits at the beginning of the night. By the end of the show he looked annoyed like he'd had enough. Seemed like he basically had to abandon his set list for the most part. Next time I see Jeff play will be with Wilco, where their instruments will (mostly) drown out those lame drunk fans who shout out the first song that comes to their heads. Please tell me I'm wrong. I'd like to know if there are solo Tweedy shows where a large part of the crowd isn't obnoxious. I took some pictures, too. I can share a link if you all are interested. tangara
That's a shame. I like to think these are isolated incidents, but yesterday I was listening to my first Tweedy solo show (10.21.99) and he had to admonish some of the talkers...then I went to see Vic Chesnutt last night, and there was some winner in the crowd trying to banter back and forth with him, and Vic was clearly not having that. Lately it feels like crowd rudeness is just out of control; there's no respect for the performer. I've half a mind to start up a posse of concert etiquette vigilantes. shesintheway
A plea from a few who are traveling to see the show Saturday in Champaign-Urbana: let Jeff play his set. He's even been known to solicit requests when a performance is going well. That would be the time to ask. He's clearly trying to mix the new material with the old. Let him. blureu
The booing and whatnot at the beginning youtube clip does seem obnoxious.
H.Stone
Took my son and a couple of his friends So what did he/they think? The shouting requests over Jeff's banter got incredibly obnoxious. At one point Jeff commented, "you don't get out much, do you?" That's too bad. Tonight is bound to be better in Ann Arbor, and I hope the Champaign crowd isn't obnoxious. Hope to see you sometime soon, Leo.
mbpandhi
The "I Will" song was definitely the strongest song of the set. It had me on the edge of my seat. Does anyone know how new it is?
magazine called sunset
The "I Will" song was definitely the strongest song of the set. It had me on the edge of my seat. Does anyone know how new it is? I concur. (Don't know how old it is though.) That song was dark and beautiful, and I think a recording would be amazing as it was played last night. So great to see so many of you from the Residency shows, and also nice to meet some new people. Hope to see you all again soon! As has already been posted, kind of a short show. But I think that we may be spoiled, as many artists don't come close to playing as long as a typical JT solo set. Kingpin was silly. And my friend who made the trek with me was born and raised in Pekin, so the fact that it actually got played was a treat. A goofy dreamsicle.
Pecan Pie
I am a Wilco vet and I have been in the trenches for many of show and I must say that Jeff's performance in K-Zoo was fantastic. I knew that his performance in AA was going to be limited because of Folk Festival reg's so I really wanted to make it to the K-Zoo show (and it did not disappoint). I am sorry the crowd did not float the boats of a lot of folks at the show but I can tell you this Mr. Tweedy did have fun. I have seen him pissed on stage and I have seen him heart broken (a day or so after his mother passed away) and I think he was in good spirits in K-Zoo. Not as impressive in length per se as the Calvin College solo show from few years back but still it was equal in quality as Calvin show. As for the setlist and length of the K-Zoo show that was more to do with the weather and not the folks in the crowd. Fun show and I can not wait to see Wilco this summer! hawthorne
upon watching kingpin, i feel embarrassed of that crowd. it wasnt a wilco show, it was a tweedy show, so shut up. i saw him a few years ago in grand rapids and it was silent and captive the entire time, helping make for one of the best shows ive been to. jeff was clearly annoyed in the clip, waiting to get the hell out of there. that being said, all of those people at kzoo paid for their tickets, i suppose they can do what they want. peterb
thanks for the setlist/info this was the first time I'd seen jeff/wilco in a couple years and I was very very impressed. the new songs were fantastic. from way up in the balcony I really didn't think the crowd seemed so bad. Josh83
I was there in the second row, and I have to say that it didn't seem to me that Jeff was annoyed. Or, if he was, he certainly seemed to laugh at the obnoxious people rather than get pissed. He smiled/laughed throughout the show. Considering that the next two shows weren't longer, it's probably reading too much into things to think Jeff was really pissed. He would have had every right to be, but it didn't look like he was. Leo
Anyword on tapers for any of the shows?Yes. One I know of for sure. He taped the Kzoo and AA shows (I assume he also taped in Champaign). Check the sites this week.

davez65
Yes. One I know of for sure. He taped the Kzoo and AA shows (I assume he also taped in Champaign). Check the sites this week. I saw two tapers there and spoke to one and he said he would post the show if it turned out well. It's been a couple of weeks now and I haven't seen it show up (I have seen the 1/30 Ann Arbor show and 1/31 Champaign show). I'm guessing it didn't turn out. Too bad if that's the case because it was a great show.

Are there any recordings of this show in circ? I was there and would love to get my hands on one. I would prefer to do B&P. Didn't see it on db.etree.org ... not sure if this is a good or bad sign.
