Guest Speed Racer
The "Wilco" sound has been different with every incarnation, so Leroy was essential to that "Wilco" sound. I liked them best during this era as well. Correct (on both counts ), but he was not essential to Wilco.

shoesgetcold3
I also pulled a Wilco related April Fools joke. When I went to the computer this morning I said "new email from Wilco" loud enough for my wife to hear. I then proceeded to get very excited and yell no way, this is amazing. As her interest grew, I said Wilco was doing a 5 night residency this July at Pritzker. She got super excited, ran over to the computer, only to find an NBA box score I was checking out. I totally got her. Unfortuately I was also let down that there was no pritzker residency scheduled, yet.
VenusStopsTrain2
Well I would miss Pat...and this didn't get me. The only thing that got me today was someone saying their visa was messed up and they'd have to leave to go home...totally believed it all day. Pat is an amazing addition to the band and I hope he doesn't read this cause who would want to read this about themselves...

And when they bring in the Total Pros... Amazing.. Close second would be their lineup when I saw them in 97. Jeff, Jay, Ken, John.. That's back when they were just a raw rock n roll band, but just starting to experiment with the kind of sounds you would hear in later albums (Summerteeth, YHF)

And I like the fact that Tweedy and his cohorts -- and those good enough to wrestle the technology available -- have made it possible to intimately relive each aspect of the band's evolution. mpolak21
He's not, and I don't think anyone could argue that he is. Wilco existed before him, and would likely still exist if he, and only he, left. Wilco's sound requires a talented multi-instrumentalist, and Pat certainly brings a style of play and performance that no other member does, but Wilco has gone through several multi-instrumentalists throughout the years and maintained the 'Wilco' sound. Leroy is the perfect example. My favorite incarnation of Wilco was the post-Bennett quartet; I think Leroy's musicality heavily influenced the way that era sounded, not least of all because he was providing all of the non-Jeff/Glenn/John/computer parts. His stylistic approach to the piano/guitar parts differs from Pat's/Mike's approach, and yet his departure showed us that he was not essential to the Wilco sound. Yeah, I agree totally with this as well, and I'd have been a lot more freaked out if I've seen this and it was Stirratt or Kotche leaving the band. --Mike
