Oil Can Boyd
Amazing show by Bon Iver last night. Certainly one of the great things about it was the venue. It was in an old theater on Cape Cod that seats only 300 people. It has great acoustics and an amazing mural by Rockwell Kent on the ceiling. I think partly because of the setting and partly because there was no alcohol for sale the place was pin-drop quiet while they were playing. We were not sure what the deal was with the theater so we got there ridiculously early. As we walked up to the place the side doors were open and they were doing the sound check. We watched them play Flume and For Emma before someone came over and very nicely said that they needed to close the doors. During the show Justin said that they had played at this place last summer, they liked the venue and the owner, so they were rehearsing here for a week before they go to Europe. The highlight for me was probably Skinny Love, where Justin played a resonator guitar and the other three guys played drums. It was really great. For the first song in the encore they sat on the edge of the stage and sang a Jayhawks cover with no microphones. Obviously they played most of For Emma and (I think) all four songs from Blood Bank. Besides the Jayhawks cover they did a cover of band called New Buffalo who they met in Austrialia. They all seeemed to be having fun and Justin seemed genuiniely appreciative that people like his music. It's killing me that they are playing the same place tonight and I just can't make it. Definitely one of the best shows I have been to this year.
Preferred B
I really wish they were playing somewhere nearby in the foreseeable future. What Jayhawks cover?
Oil Can Boyd
What Jayhawks cover?I don't actually know. I'm not a huge Jayhawks fan and it was not something I recognized.
mfwahl
Sounds awesome. I don't get a lot of great music in my city and I just found out while I'll be out of town Bon Iver and Animal Collective are playing here.
H.Stone
Wow, wish I could be there for that. Any memorable lines from the Jayhawks cover at all? Anything to give us a clue?
spacepanda
Hey, I was there too. The Jayhawks song was Tampa to Tulsa. Really great show. Much more "rocking" than I expected. Highlights for me were Lump Sum and Creature Fear, both of which featured some really cool effected guitars, brief spacy ambient passages, and generally chaotic percussion. Added an entirely new level to the tension already inherent in Bon Iver's music. Very cool show, absolutely thrilled he came to such a seemingly random and out of the way place. JMal
wait so they play "THe Woods" live? I wonder what that's like
spacepanda
Nope they didn't play Woods, or Blindsided. I think other than that they played every song from For Emma and Blood Bank. I was hoping for a barbershop quartet rendition of Woods, but it was not to be.

badu2fan
You tell me! (Lolla totally doesn't count.) I am so hooked on BOn Iver since seeing them in charleston last summer. I hope they find lots of success. I wish they would tour summer in US instead of Europe.I rate them as the best new band out there. Go see them if you live in Atlanta or Florida in first of june.... Mount Veron for President...... So anyone like My Sweet Lord from the new album????? Wilco sounding like beatles......
ponch1028
Man, I planned to purchase tickets to his Atlanta show this June but it looks like they're sold out. Major bummer. I spent two weeks convincing friends to go see him and they finally agreed, only to have the show sellout. Me Sad.

Damn I did same as there were tickets last week and I should have gone ahead and bought 4 as they were only 20 bucks....
dgundlach
I was also at this show. First time seeing Bon Iver. What an unbelievable experience. They are without a doubt the best new band out there. I was curious how their sound would transfer into a live setting. I have to say I was truely amazed. Certainly a memorable night in a beautiful venue on the Cape. Hope they come back soon!
