First Impression

Glad.

So far, I'm loving this album. It has such a different feel then what I expected. Upon first listen, I really love Everlasting Everything and Deeper Down. One Wing was great, but different than what I expected.

Anyone else listening to the album for the first time?

I listened for the first time yesterday. I didnt care for "You and I", "Country Disappeared", or "Solitaire" at first but after a couple more listens only "You and I" remains on the weak list.

"Sonny Feeling" reminded me of "Let's Not Get Carried Away" for some reason. And yes "Deeper Down" is amazing.

I'll agree with you there. "You and I" is the only outright weak song. If it were just Jeff solo I could stand it but...Feist's voice is nice enough and everything, but the whole feel when she and the drums kick in is just so generic.

I've had this album for over a month and I thought You and I was really weak at first, but it grew on me a lot.

Curious question for all you first time listeners? How did you take in the album? Driving in the car, sitting in the living room? Just curious. I think when it leaked I blasted it through my speakers and just laid down and closed my eyes and took it all in.

As I recall after the leak I listened to it on my computer then on my iPod to myself then systematically made everyone else listen whether it was in the car or wherever it was because I was so happy to listen to it haha.

Did anyone else have a hugely different experience with the vinyl? I knew the leak would pale in comparison quality-wise, but I am loving the vinyl. Even the .aiff encoded CD sounds leaps an bounds richer than the leaked audio. I definitely have a new appreciation for the album after hearing a few tracks live in Cincinnati and then hearing the vinyl.

Sweet record, not disappointed in the least. I didn't expect it to trump my favorite Wilco records, and that is ok. My only issue is with the over the top aspects of "Everlasting Everything" (I think that song could have been beautifully understated. No other issues and cmon people "You and I" is sweet in every way. Allow yourself to feel some 70's am vibes.

Ahhhhhhhhh.... :music

Just got the download I ordered - worked seamlessly -(hope to get the CD in the mail soon!!!!) and it's SO GREAT to be listening. I heard it originally the 2nd time it was streamed (fortunately before the show in Tucson). Bliss! Don't mind the Feist song but thought You Never Know a little weak. But I have to admit, it's growing on me.

I listened to W(TA) in a box, in my socks with a fox, in a house with a mouse, on a boat with a goat. I listened to W(TA) here and there, I listened to W(TA) every where. I do so like W(TA). Thank you, thank you, Tweedy-I-Am.

As anticipated, I enjoyed side two much better on vinyl -- moreso for the "vinyl experience" than the obvious sound quality. Cup o' coffee Sunday morning in the sun room, poring over the album cover. Guh-ROO-vee.

I can't wait to get to the record store to buy this, so I can finally have a lossless rip and hear it at full quality.

I held out until I recieved my Kung Fu pre-order(s) yesterday and I couldn't be happier that I did, though the anticipation just about killed me. I wanted the new material fresh in my head anyways since I'll be travelling to see the fellas at Red Rocks this weekend, but now that I have listened to the album on vinyl, I can't possibly imagine any stream to be able to replicate what I heard and listened to last night for the first time. Hell, I don't even think the cd can touch the sound this album brings to vinyl. I think it's a very SOLID album, and cannot wait for the prospects and avenues these songs have the potential to bring to a live setting.

they've played the new material pretty straight to what's on the album so far. even "bull black nova" live is remarkably similar to the studio version - which IMO is unfortunate since that song would benefit from a little bit of extra jeff-is-losing-it emotion at the end.

Yeah, but even Spiders took some time to grow into the mega rock-out anthem that it is today. The songs will mature live as they start to play them more. You Never Know is already sounding a bit more polished and loose live than the radio edit/album version.

So, I'm on my third time through and this album is really growing on me beautifully.

I do think though, and this is just an observation (neither positive or negative) that this album is very "Produced" sounding at some points. I'm not sure produced is the right word, but a whole lot of it sounds very slick, very smooth. Most of the harmonies are right up front and perfect, rather than being not 100 percent on, yet adding character on their other albums. It gives the whole album, a different feel, a different sound, which I guess is why an artist puts out new albums.

As a whole, I'm really enjoying this album so far. It's got all of the pieces of a classic album. It's really inspiring to me when a band can continue to, year after year, put out albums that are as good as anything they've ever done. Similar and yet different. Perfect and yet flawed. How lucky we are to be fans of a band who is talented enough to continue to pull this off.

Thanks guys, I'm really impressed.

As usual.

I listened to the leak a few times, but not that much, since the sound quality wasn't that good. I picked up the CD today, and I'm really appreciating how well mixed it is. I'm hearing so much that I missed in the lesser-quality mp3 files, and I'm really appreciating how richly layered the album is. Is it my favorite Wilco album? No. But there's no doubt it's a very well-crafted album, and one I know I'm going to be enjoying for a long time.

I held out as well and am glad I did. I listened on the good stereo system last night. I'm pleasantly surprised

the songwriting and playing is still holding up. The sound production is once again void of any musical energy though, and I don't know how they keep ending up with these lifeless recordings. It's at least three albums in a row now. But apart from tracks 5,7 & 9, there are some great moments.

I got into Wilco over the last year. I started with Yankee, then Ghost, then Sky, now slowly embracing Being There and I've listened to parts of Summerteeth a few times. At this point, I like no band more than I like Wilco. This is my first 'new album' as a 'current' fan, as it were. I bought it today without having heard any of it before, save for the Cincinnati show a few weeks back (and I certainly didn't retain any impressions of the new songs from that night). Im a little disappointed in this album so far, but that seems to always happen to me with new albums from bands I love. Overall, after 2 listens, I think I'll really enjoy the album, save for maybe 1 or 2 songs. A few songs, I love: You Never Know, Wilco (the song) (oddly, if I may say so), that I will, I will, I will song...... (I've been drinking wine all night, can't recall the song name and don't care to get up to check (or take the 3 seconds to google search, though, apparently, thats not a time issue thing since Im writing this long-winded, inane explanation)).

In the end, for me, this band is F'n great; a treasure.

Listening to it in lossless for the first time. The only words to describe the difference between this and the leaked version are, "The schnozberries taste like schnozberries"

I already liked these two tracks, but I am hearing much more texture in Deeper Down and much more vitality in You Never Know than I was hearing before.
