Uncle Jeffro
Another great show. They opened with Bull Black Nova and slid Wilco (The Song) to the Encore opener - this worked well. Feist came out and performed You and I with the band. Other song highlights for me (in no particular order): Kamera, Radio Cure, Hummingbird, Country Disappeared, Sonny Feeling, and Casino Queen. Not a lot of chatting from Jeff, he seemed very conscious of the time. Even though it is not directly related to the show, I have to say that Toronto is an amazing city. This was our first trip here and we were blown away. In two days (on top of the 2 Wilco shows), we saw the Stanley Cup and a display of Olympic medals from all the games at the Hockey Hall of Fame, the Dead Sea Scrolls and an Egyptian Book of the Dead (and alot of very cool dinosaur fossils) at the ROM, and had amazing food in Chinatown and at St. Lawrence Market. Oh, and we are now addicted to Tim Horton's.

TheMaker
Wow. I really, really wish I'd gone tonight instead of last night. Had I done that, I probably would have enjoyed my best Wilco show instead of my worst.
dsutkiewic
sooooooo, I got kicked out of this show by security after Kamera for standing during the music. A security guard threatened at the beginning of the show and I told him I wasn't planning on sitting, and 20 minutes later, he and an usher told me if i didn't sit down, that they would have to ask me to leave. I told him I didn't want to sit, as it was a Wilco show, and everyone else on the floor was standing (we were on the balcony). I should mention that no one in my section was standing, but I didn't care. Any ideas on where I should bring my complaints guys? Pretty ridiculous stuff. Kicked out of a rock show for standing? Dan. Wow, that is a bummer. I don't know if you've seen this on Massey Hall's website, but it sounds like you may have broken their "being considerate" rule. http://www.masseyhall.com/aboutRTH/patronServices.cfm?sectionName=aboutRTH CONCERT ETIQUETTE Following universal concert etiquette serves to provide the best possible listening environment for you, your fellow audience members and the performers on stage. Your consideration for fellow patrons and performers, by not causing any distraction that will disturb the atmosphere of the concert, will ensure everyone’s full enjoyment of the live performance. Please turn off your cell phones, pagers, watch-alarms before entering the auditorium. Use of cameras, video-audio recording devices in the auditorium is strictly prohibited. If you are a latecomer or leave the auditorium during the performance, you will be seated at an appropriate break in the performance, as determined by the conductor or guest artist. Please refrain from quiet conversations, whispers, singing, and humming and crinkly candy wrappers as the acclaimed acoustics of this auditorium carry your conversation and disruptions all the way to the stage as well as to the patrons around you. Leaning forward or standing will impair the sightlines of other patrons. Please be considerate of those behind you. For your safety, please remain seated until the performance has ended and the house lights have been turned on. Not all performances are suitable for young children. Babes-in-arms and children under 5 may not be admitted, based on the wishes of the performer and/or the nature of the performance. indy81
I should mention that no one in my section was standing, but I didn't care. And there you have it. I prefer to stand too, but you've gotta go with the flow. Basic rules of courtesy still apply at concerts. And since you were warned twice and refused to sit even after they threatened to toss you, I'm not sure you've got much to complain about. Was it worth missing 2/3 of the show just for the sake of refusing a reasonable request?

Wow, I'm a little surprised they kicked you out! You were the guy in the front row on the right side (stage left) first balcony, right? I give you props for sticking to your guns in the face of all of the shouts to sit. I always end up caving. And I have to say that between Kamera and At Least...well, during the start of At Least, I was pretty amused when people started chanting, "Let him stand, let him stand!" I was sort of secretly hoping that you'd make them haul you out. Sorry it worked out badly this time. I figured they took you to a spot where you could stand without being in front of anyone. No idea who you would seek redress from. I can't imagine they would give you any kind of refund, but you could at least make your feelings known to the venue management. Just for the encore set I wish I'd been at the Thurs show instead of Wed.!! WOW. Sounds like a great show. I love Monday, Can't Stand It, and Hoodoo Voodoo is a great closer, but.......... Oh well, Wed. was a very fine show too. Nice to see them take a break from Spiders (probably for time considerations), though Via Chicago is a staple that I find hard to let go of. It just seems odd they skipped both S(K) and VC two nights in a row. Anyway..we were just really hoping when Liam came onstage it would be for Cali Stars.
grcooley
I'm surprised they kicked you out and didn't just send you to the back where you could standthe fact was, though, you were in one of the first couple rows of the balconycall me a traditionalist, and you may not have known this, but the very reason many people buy balcony at Massey Hall instead of floor is to sit back and enjoy the show
ps1211
Went both nights...both shows were stellar. Totally worth paying for two shows as the guys played 13 different songs...for anyone that questions their set-list thought process I think the discussion ends with the two T.O. shows. The interpretive/dirty dancing couple in the front row certainly caused quite a distraction for those of us down front and they didn't go unnoticed by the band either. Early on I caught Jeff and John giving each other the “check them out” look and later Jeff commented that should she require police assistance to deal with the dude’s offensive dancing she just needed to wink. Even more classic was when the guy put his beer down on the stage, security removed it without him seeing where it went. Ha! Great two night stand…thought the newer material sounded way tighter than in Lewiston (especially Sonny Feeling and Deeper Down). Can’t wait for the frozen tundra tour! Guest Speed Racer
Any ideas on where I should bring my complaints guys? Pretty ridiculous stuff. Kicked out of a rock show for standing? If I were seated behind you, and you were blocking my view (as standing people often do when in front of seated people), I would have complained to an usher - as many times as it took so that you were no longer blocking my view. Everyone behind you paid the same amount for their ticket as you; why should you get to stand and get the "full concert experience" and they get cheated just because of the luck of the draw? You should have either stood in back after the first warning, or tried to get down to the floor yourself. Why should they have accommodated you to the floor just because you didn't comply with the venues rules?
lizish
Oh, and we are now addicted to Tim Horton's. cool! They put Cocaine in the coffee. It allows all those Torontonians rushing around with their blackberrys to type faster. Glad you enjoyed the city. Lots of other off the beaten track places to check out on a future visit. GtrPlyr
I agree with Speed Racer. It's pretty inconsiderate to stand and block the view of others around you. Just because most people on the floor are standing doesn't automatically give you the right to stand in the balcony too. I was in the 1st balcony at the Wednesday show. I wanted to stand earlier in the show, but didn't because I didn't want to be a jerk to those around me. Thankfully we got to stand for the encore set.

You do realize that you sound like an unsocialized four-year-old? I feel sorry for anyone who was sitting near you, who had to endure a long distraction while you argued with security while they were trying to listen to the music. W(TF)
Just wondering -- did Jeff happen to dedicate Misunderstood to "Liz" (my daughter)? We were supposed to go last night, but it didn't happen. I didn't know how to cancel the request. I know he usually only mentions names at the solo/charity shows, but I wrote that she was 12 and it was her first real rock concert, so I thought, you never know... W(TF)
I'm split on this issue. We all EXPECT the musicians to stand for most of the show (err, Glenn and Mikael excepted). I think the crowd should be allowed to find its' own way, and if the standers can sway the sitters in their section, then everyone stands. This happened a few times in our section on night 1. If you're the only one standing, yeah you need some sensitivity training. The appalling thing on 10/14 was how everyone in the first couple of rows (center section) sat down for the middle part of the show...except for one guy.

"In at least one case, a band got borderline hostile with a Massey Hall audience that chose to sit instead of stand. Wilco lead singer Jeff Tweedy hurled an expletive at the crowd at a 2006 concert for sitting politely, and encouraged everyone to stand up. He later apologized after fans gladly stayed on their feet, and said he should have invited them to stand sooner."

Last night's concert was in 2009, during which one man was standing and no one else was. You were violating the Massey Hall code of conduct, which asks patrons to respect other patrons' concert experiences by not blocking the view of others. If Wilco asked everyone to stand, and everyone did, you would not have been kicked out. As it is, you were asked to sit - not stand - twice and refused to do so.
