Shining Sunbeam
I just discovered the archive of Wilco shows. What are the essentials? You know, the Wilco equivalents of The Grateful Dead Ithaca '77, Bruce Springsteen at The Main Point '75, the stuff that would form the backbone of any collection. I just donwloaded and converted the first song of the three versions available of my first show (Rochester '08) and the third is definitely the best, so there's my first project. Next up, I'm thinking the whole residency, unless I get strong opinions sending me in a different direction. Thanks!
IRememberDBoon
Heres a good one to turn up really loud
IRememberDBoon
actually if you like the wilco band's lead singer Jeff Tweedy you might like this but you should turn this one up really loud
calvino
Below is a link of some suggestions of Wilco shows with Bennett in the band. The last Lounge Ax show is great (though a bit sloppy), as mentioned in the below link. http://forums.viachicago.org/topic/40180-bennetts-best-shows/page__p__1336368entry1336368 Lounge Ax Showhttp://wilcobase.com/event.php?event_key=
Analogman
A thread from last summer - that contains links to other threads about the same topic. There are probably more threads about the best live shows in this section of the board. It is a topic that gets brought up every so often, but does not always get a lot of response. jmacomber68w
I'd recommend downloading... - the residency - the YHF demos (the engineers demos are my fav) - feb 24 and 25, at the 930 http://wilcoarchive.com/wilco%2020050224/ - sept 4th 2003, http://wilcoarchive.com/wilco%2020030904/ - Jeff Tweedy Solo feb 25th, 2006 http://wilcoarchive.com/tweedy%2020060225.flac/ - Jeff Tweedy Solo March 4th and 5th 2005 http://download.owlandbear.com/Tweedy%20Jeff%20-%2020050304/http://download.owlandbear.com/Tweedy%20Jeff%20-%2020050305/ These are my favs, all are of the highest quality. I am very partial to the tweedy solo shows, now where would one find these GD and Bruce shows? I'm a casual fan of both, and I have always appreciated the "best of the best" when it comes to concerts. Are they soundboard?

Thanks Analogman, I know of some of those, I'll have to check out the others! I'm more curious if there is a "owl and bear" style site for Bruce an The Dead, archive is probably best for the dead, just curious if there are others.
SeattleC
Some months ago there was a link on Via Chicago to video from an outdoor show from early Wilco, with Jay Bennett, at a ski hill in Canada (and it wasn't Whister, that's for sure, but some small place in Newfoundland or Quebec, I believe). It was great, but I can't find it on the many pages of Jay's memorial comments, although I know it's there somewhere. If anyone can lead me back to it, I'd appreciate it. Not exactly bootleg audio. but great video that I'd recommended highly to all, if only I could find it again. Any leads are appreciated.

Analogman
Thanks Analogman, I know of some of those, I'll have to check out the others! I'm more curious if there is a "owl and bear" style site for Bruce an The Dead, archive is probably best for the dead, just curious if there are others. There are audio blogs out there where you can find live shows of bands in both FLAC and Mp3 file formats. You just have to dig around and find them. I am sure there are FTP sites as well. I think what we have at The Owl and Bear is sort of unique in a way. Also - you can search find message boards of bands where there are active vine and B&P threads. I believe there are also vine and B&P threads at some Bit Torrent sites. I prefer BT above all else. Audio blogs are alright, but I am not a fan of messing with a bunch of Rapidshare links. choo-choo-charlie
Are there any really good recent gigs, with good sound quality and long setlists?? Not that I've heard...I remember a similar question being asked around the time Jay Bennett passed away and people were starting to dive into older live recordings. It seems that there is a proliferation of high-quality recordings from the Bennett days and a handful of good stuff from 2001-2005, but the high-quality stuff of recent times is a bit more scarce. This also depends on your definition of "high-quality" recordings...what is pleasant to one listener could be grating to another.
