Petition For Wilco to Play "Wishful Thinking" in Atlanta!

Recommended Posts

So, I have seen Wilco at least once a year since 2005 (except for last year when the Knoxville show fell on the same day as a hometown Avett Brothers show), and every show I have tried my darndest to get the band to play "Wishful Thinking". The closest I have come is hearing it at a solo show, which was AMAZING, don't get me wrong, but there is something about the full band arrangement that is so dang awesome! So, I am wondering if you guys would take a moment to go to wilcoweb and request that "Wishful Thinking" be played in Atlanta. If not I will have to make a sign, and the last time I did that it was not pretty, and I ended up leaving it at home.

The last time I saw Wilco I came very close to hearing the song, cos they played it the next night in Huntsville, and it actually made it on to "Ashes...", but still hearing it in person would be so dang awesome!

This is me sending you good vibes...

I've heard the song open up the 2004 Brandeis University show and then again at the 2006 Pines Theater show. I think that's it?

I feel like I've heard it one more time.

Off to wilcobase to double check.

yeah, i've seen it at a solo show, and it made me cry. it's been my favorite song since the leak of a ghost is born hit all those years ago... i remember i asked Jeff about it in Nashville and he said "We can't play it tonight, but if you come to Alabama tomorrow we'll play it." Maybe I will get lucky this time!

Ha... good luck! I voted for Wishful Thinking too for NJ! Never heard it live! It is the only song on Ghost live I yet to hear!

Hmm. Interesting. I thought Jeff made the setlists the night of.

Unless if you saw him after he made that night's setlist and was like "well come tomorrow..I'm not changing anything."

yeah, he probably already made it, he asked if i liked "Pieholden Suite" and of course i was like ":w00t yes!" and he whispered "well, it's 1st tonight!" and i was like :omg it was a really funny moment!

LOL.

I love how the 1st thing that crossed my mind was "Wait, do I remember that?" or better yet "Wait, do I have that boot?"

I've been planning on requesting Wishful Thinking for Pittsburgh! I have a very specific reason for my request, but I can't seem to shrink it down to fit in the box provided on the request page. :ohwell

Do we have any idea if reasons for requests are actually taken into consideration by the band? Or do they maybe just count votes?

My reasoning is kinda dorky and probably not that interesting to others, but I still would like to submit it with my resquest. Must work on consolidation.

yeah, i was bummed that the characters in the text box were limited too. maybe i can try to get down to ATL early and mill around til I see one of the guys and ask in person.

Of course this is all over 3 months away.. but it's fun to talk about

Good luck with that...my two times I requested songs in person didn't do anything. Then again I am just some dude...you may have better luck then I did. I aksed Jeff to play Either Way in Red Bank and he was like no chance...I also asked John about Too Far Apart (A few months after they played it almost at ever show not on the east coast!!!) in Brooklyn and he said they stopped playing it. :hmm

I suppose it just depends. The one time I requested a song in person (for a solo show), he played it, but it was a song he probably would have played anyway (Via Chicago). I talked to Jeff after a show in Birmingham and asked if there was any chance he could play Via Chicago during the next show in Atlanta (where i live, on my birthday). I told him I was born in Chicago and it would be a great present. He said that he would see what he could do and he would try to remember, but if he couldn't he pointed to a guy that would remind him.

He played it and completely screwed up the lyrics and had to get help form the crowd. It was awesome.

I hope that's not true; I love this line-up's version of Too Far Apart.

Good luck with your request!!

I was not sure either about the request page but in my case it did work!! I requested (more than once, I have to admit) if they would play "Remember the Mountain Bed" last year in Barcelona and they did!!! I couldn't believe it, really, but among lots of other wonderful songs, specially that one made my day! Mikael was the one choosing that night's setlist, Jeff said... I may start soon thinking about some requests for the next show in town... ;o)

Wishful Thinking.... Wishful Thinking....

Please play in ATLANTA (SAVANNAH TOO!!!)

I hope we get lucky Sarah, I request this song on the request page (often) and I've asked JT,

last time I asked if he would 'ever' play Wishful Thinking in Georgia.

He said "Someday"... Maybe March will be that day...

:dancing :thumbup :cheers :music :rock :yay

I sure hope it works, thanks guys! It would be amazing to get to see the song full band. Though, I am going to be happy with whatever they play because by the time I see them it will have been 2 years since the last time I'd seen them at the Ryman!
