new My Morning Jacket dates

Recommended Posts

It’s been almost a full year, but the wait is finally over. My Morning Jacket are ready to bring their electrifying live show back on the road. The guys will make their way around the Southeastern United States this Spring, including a performance at this year’s Jazzfest in New Orleans. MMJ are also excited to both try something new with their choice for an opening act, and bring some of the spirit of NOLA along with them. The band is honored that the historic Preservation Hall Jazz Band will be supporting them on the run.

The connection with the PHJB originated in the Spring of 2009 when MMJ frontman Jim James was invited to sing with them at their home turf, New Orleans’ legendary Preservation Hall. James recorded two songs with the band: “St. James Infirmary” and “Louisiana Fairytale.” The tracks will appear on the bands forthcoming album, PRESERVATION: An Album To Benefit Preservation Hall & The Preservation Hall Music Outreach Program, out February 16th.

“When I got the invitation to go to the legendary Preservation Hall – where SO much of the music we now know and love on this earth found its early roots – I did not waste a minute,” James reminisces. “Getting to sing while the guys played with such glorious bursts of sound – all live in that holy room with the ghosts and garbage trucks crankin’ along – was an experience I’ll never forget.”

The PHJB’s leader Ben Jaffe shares his memory of playing with James: “I couldn’t have imagined Jim fitting in any better with the guys at Preservation Hall. Creating music is not a science. There is no tried and true formula. There is an unspoken bond amongst musicians. One that exists in the notes we choose. Jim’s like our long lost cousin coming home for the first time.”

Jeez...I wish they had planned a little further south.

Can't say I blame them after last show in Miami at the Fillmore....only 1/3 full place.

St. Augustine is a long drive of SF...we will see....already driving up to Clearwater for Wilco in March

I did the drive to St. Augustine for the Decemberists last year, might be willing to do this one too since it's during my summer.

yep...the Miami show was pitiful (fan wise)...don't blame them either. I'll be making the drive to St. Augustine.

strong rumors of Pearl Jam playing in St. Augustine on April 19th too

umm...that would be sweet. Hope it's true.

Just got my GA for Nashville. It looks like a rather large place. MMJ tickets are getting way expensive these days. $67 with shipping and fees. Hopefully they'll unveil some new songs for us after such a long break.

Very stoked about Atlanta, tickets go on sail tomorrow. Wilco in March, MMJ in April.. Can't beat that.

Anyone ever been to Chastain in Atlanta? Although it seats 7k, it looks fairly small from the pictures.

I want to say that SarahC has seen Wilco there, but I'm not 100% sure. My friends in Atlanta mentioned in the past that it's one of those venues where people sit around and drink wine and shit. I think it's where the symphony plays? Not exactly where I would picture MMJ playing. Or even Wilco for that matter.

I have seen Neil Young, Bob Dylan, and Wilco at Chastain before. It is good. It can have a reputation of having a snooty crowd. The two older shows (young and dylan) I saw there the crowd did reflect that somewhat, but i don't think the older season ticket holders were tehre when i saw wilco because that was not the case. I feel MMJ will be the same way as wilco.

Unfortunately you can sometimes bring in coolers of booze or wine, but this show is a non cooler show.

It is a nice little outside amptheatre usually good acoustics and not really a bad seat.

I'm in the orchestra section row B seats 106-110. If you are near say hi :)

Cool, I'll be in row L, I think pretty far to the left (in the 140's)... It does look like a pretty small place so I'm sure there isn't a bad seat in the house.
