I've never got to see them, but I like them quite a bit. I am not sure when I discovered the band. It may have been at some point in the late 70s.

I take it you known that in place of Rick Wakeman and Jon Anderson, you will be getting Oliver Wakeman and Benoît David.

I missed their apparent appearance in Poughkeepsie last week. Eh bien.

i've been an off and on fan for a while. i've recently been discovering some of their latter day output. Talk is not a bad ablum at all. i think rabin was a good foil for anderson.

i would love to see the new tour. i love chris squire and steve howe. plus, they are playing some real random stuff they haven't played in decades. Machine Messiah being one highlight!

i've seen some video footage and Oliver is not his father, but seems to fill the space. also, benoit is competent. kind of weird though with out their spiritual leader.

i would really love to see the classic line-up get together at least one more time and put out a good album or ep and maybe do a run at O2 or MSG. i think these bands would be around a lot longer if they took it easy and didn't tour their asses off.

PS-speaking of prog, i really hope we haven't seen the end of king crimson yet. also, it looks like rush might tour this summer :dancing

I've only seen Yes once. I saw the Union tour, which was a disgraceful shambles, if you believe Bill Bruford.

I hope I get a chance to see them, preferably with Anderson and (not Oliver) Wakeman.

I think Jon is pissed off that they went ahead with the tour when he was sick

I am no Yes fan, well I was for a short while when I was a young'un. I saw "Yes - In The Round" at least 30 years ago. Anyway, I just noticed in the paper that they are playing tomorrow, Saturday 27 February, as part of the 'Bands, Brew & BBQ' series at SeaWorld (as in the People Got A Lotta Nerve thread). The prior acts in the series were as follows:

SeaWorld

Feb. 6 – LeAnn Rimes

Feb. 13 – Montgomery Gentry

Feb. 20 – John Rich of Big & Rich

Feb. 27 – Yes

Busch Gardens

Feb. 7 – Dennis DeYoung: The Music of Styx

Feb.y 14 – Willie Nelson

Feb. 21 – Huey Lewis and the News

Feb. 28 – Pat Benatar & Neil Giraldo

I thought that Willie Nelson was weird and considered going but I assumed that it was an abbreviated set and thought better of it. But Willie doesn't stick out in the Busch Gardens line-up as much as Yes stands out in the SeaWorld line-up. What on Earth? I know that they are getting a payday but what the fuck? I am guessing that the setlist will be serious radio hits only. If it is identical, hell similar, to the 8 Feb Northampton show posted above in the thread, I will buy every VCer a beer.

Thoughts?

No worse than playing casinos, I guess.

Blondie once played at a dog track up the road from where I live.

I think I read some comments at Dime a Dozen that suggested they are mixing the setlist up somewhat.

I would go if I had the chance. Although, it would be weird to hear someone who sounds like Jon, but is in fact, not him.

There are videos of Benoit David up at Youtube that you can check out. The dude does a great job, I will say that much.

Did Yes ever have any hits besides Roundabout? I mean the old Yes, not the Owner of a Lonely Heart version of Yes.

not sure about chart placement, but i definitely heard 'i've seen all good people' and 'starship trooper' plenty of times on classic rock radio. 'yours is no disgrace' as well.

btw, i put up a thread w/ some photos and a review of their boston show if you hadn't seen it:

Man, I would love for Yes to come back my way again. I first saw them in the round in '78 (?), on the 90125 tour in '84, and the Union tour in '91. As HWF said, I'd gladly pay the $$ just to see Steve Howe - that dude is one the greatest guitarists in rock history. And Squire? Shit, that guy has a style all his own, he's a hero of mine.

That setlist looks interesting - Tempus Fugit? Hell yeah! :dancing

I think I recall in the liner notes of one of the re-masters that they were not to fond of editing tracks for radio.

If there was ever such a thing as an album band, they are at the top of the list.

Although the first two albums, Yes, and A Time and A Word are a different trip all together.

Oh snap - they are coming to former Woodstock '69 site Bethel Woods this summer.

I dunno, Drew - that's a bit harsh imo. Hell, it's not the first time Jon hasn't been in the band. Trevor Horn handled the vocals pretty well during the "Drama" period.
