auctioneer69
I really should try to get up there next weekend while this is still happening. I had a meeting with some people from Vancouver on Friday, and they said that the streets are like a hockey game just let out, everywhere downtown all the time. It sounds like a blast. The weather this weekend was amazing to boot. I rode around Lake Washington on my bike today in shorts in February. That's a first. Extra lanes added at the border so it was a combined 30 minutes. Other tips. Got a cheap motel in Bellingham on Friday night and Saturday night (coachman - clean and perfectly fine) allowing one long day in Vancouver. Parked car in Richmond and took sky-train in which worked out really well. Look for tkts on craigslist or we got tix released after game had started for curling. All in all. Brilliant atmosphere and well worth it. Article below from Seattle Times was super-useful. http://seattletimes.nwsource.com/html/travel/2011116873_webolympictips18.html
Edie
I'll bet there is a kids curling camp in Europe somewhere.
cryptique
There are kids' curling camps all over (in Canada, anyway). What I couldn't find was an actual charity that sends underprivileged kids to curling camps.

Winston Legthigh
So anyway, the win by the US was huge - namely because they made their road to a medal so much easier. They're looking at the winner of Switzerland v Belarus, then Czech Rep or Finland. None of those teams are pushovers, (Finland won silver at the 2006 games, CR won gold in 98), but none were considered medal favorites going into the tourney. All of the early medal favorites (Canada, Russia, Sweden) are on the other side of the bracket. The seeds going into the rest of the tournament are as follows: 1. USA2. Sweden3. Russia4. Finland5. Czech Republic6. Canada7. Slovakia8. Switzerland9. Belarus10. Norway11. Germany12. Latvia Here are the four games in the qualification round Tuesday:Czech Republic vs. LatviaCanada vs. GermanySlovakia vs. NorwaySwitzerland vs. Belarus Then we move on to the quarterfinals Wednesday, which will feature:1. Winner of Switzerland-Belarus vs. USA 2. Winner of Slovakia-Norway vs. Sweden 3. Winner of Canada-Germany vs. Russia 4. Winner of Czech Republic-Latvia vs. Finland Then the semifinals, which are slated for Friday:Winner of Game 1 vs. winner of Game 4Winner of Game 2 vs. winner of Game 3 And, of course, the winners of those two games face off for the gold medal Sunday. The losers play for the bronze Saturday.

watch me fall
I woke up early this morning thinking I was having a nightmare when in fact I had just left the tv on and was awakened by ice dancers skating to "Thank God I'm a Country Boy".
Dreamin'
I'm loving my beautiful city more than ever. The weather has been glorious and there is a great vibe on the street (despite Canada's loss to the US in hockey last night). It's like Christmas day, every day of the week. ih8music
3. Winner of Canada-Germany vs. Russia Pretty amazing how either Canada or Russia won't even make it to the medal round. That is, of course, assuming Canada can get past Germany.

blindgonzo
yay! although there seems to be some figure skater haters here, I am super proud and happy for the Canadian Ice Dancers Tessa Virtue and Scott Moir who just won gold! Their free skate tonight was beautiful! I grew up watching figure skating, then stopped, and then I saw this teams free skate from last season and got hooked again. Fantastic team! Pretty amazing how either Canada or Russia won't even make it to the medal round. this is incorrect.

Olympic lesson #6 - if your name is Tessa Virtue, you are bound to win. Good on them! The weather has been glorious and there is a great vibe on the street (despite Canada's loss to the US in hockey last night). It's like Christmas day, every day of the week.I still don't understand what was going on that first day we were there... where was everyone?? They sure came out of the woodwork for the rest of the week. Me too. The lottery is tonight. If I win, I'll be buying a place there.Me three. I've already got a place picked out and everything. Of course, the fact that it isn't currently for sale might drive the price up just a bit. I'll be posting pictures from our trip, as soon as I sort through them a bit. We saw the doubles luge at Whistler, and the women's halfpipe at Cypress, for two amazingly fun days (although, too cold for a couple of native Californians). Also, we had three great days of walking around beautiful Vancouver in perfect weather, with one of our most favorite people, who also happens to be a fantastic tour guide. Hard to tell whether everyone was so friendly to us because the whole country was in the grip of Olympic fever, or if Canadians are really just that cool. But all in all, the trip of a lifetime. watch me fall
Well, i don't think she's in the Olympics because she's hot. She could just do Playboy, if that were the case.

She's won the World Cup of skiing two years in a row, and has a Gold this year in the downhill...
TCP
Canada VS Russia... tonight! The epic battle of good VS evil. Needless to say, I am very excited. The USA is having trouble against the Swiss. Perhaps an upset is upon us?
watch me fall
Well she's crashed twice now. Admittedly I don't know anything about skiing, but all I heard before the Olympics was how great she was. Maybe I thought she was supposed to win more than one race because of all the hype. It was just a question. My bad.
